Alright lets try this! One chapter everyday until we die.
>The Social Welfare agency, a government sponsored corporation is in the business for saving orphaned or abandoned children who are terminally ill or injured beyond the point of saving.
>Using cybernetic implants, the Agency uses a process called 'conditioning' to turn orphaned children into emotionless killing machines with hardly any memories, no human comfort and no free will.
>Follow the life of Henrietta, a girl who barely survived a brutal attack that killed her family and who was saved and repaired by the Social Welfare Agency. Despite her conditioning and programming, Henrietta still has the heart of a young girl. She has not completely forgotten how to love, yet the very emotion is contrary to her training and programming. Can the Gunslinger Girl survive?

Sorry for the mess in the daily, somehow managed to get myself banned and couldn't access.
>>
Should now go back to normal schedule and upload faster.
>>
>>289532290
>somehow managed to get myself banned
lol
happens to the best of us, OP
what kind of porn did you post?
>>
>>289532321
No the mistake seems that I got too close to real life in 86 threads lol
>>
Henrietta looks super cute in that last page!
Also thought it was a guy talking to Henrietta and Joseph
>>
>>289532321
Adding to the reply, its difficult because sometimes I want to discuss the realism of military anime or manga but they don't fit /his/ and if things get too political or realistic, it doesn't fit /a/. So its a nasty middle ground
>>
I wonder just how much they can force their cyborgs to obey
>>
>>
Jealous Hemrietta?
>>
>>
>>
Henrietta is the cutest cinnamon roll!
>>
>>
>>
Sounds tasty, now I want some
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
No sense of self preservation. Also this proves they can truly be taken out when not concentrating.
>>
Pretty cool, I distinctly remember this was animated
>>
>>289532673
What an odd thing to say
>>
>>
She looks so cute and can be so deadly
>>
He has no idea how lucky he is, Henrietta would probably just murder him.
>>
>>289533246
NOT THE DEVIL'S LETTUCE
>>
>>
>>
Scary how they are so willing to get themselves in danger for their handlers and how they take it for granted, as if it was common for children to become meatshields. I love the moral ambiguity here
>>
I guess what that anon commented before is right, Jose doesn't truly care that much about Henrietta
>>
>>
Huh so she does have some deductive abilities too then
>>
>>
>>
Was that a suicide attempt?
>>
>>289533397
Oh jesus they are straight up t-800s? I thought it was just 'some' augmentation
and yeah like another anon said, if they're chopping that much out anyway why not just huck their womb too while you're at it?
>>
She is so cute as she is scary
>>
>>
My yandere cyborg can't be this cute!
>>
>>
>>
>>289533246
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude!
>>
>>289534118
And so we reach the chapter and volume end! Also here are some cool notes and lore from the translator
Would you like to live in Italy, anon?
>>
Thanks to all the anon who are still following. Will be extra careful to not be banned again so hopefully the schedule will resume as usual now.
>>
>>289533451
Where is my government issued cyborg waifu, anon? I need to get myself one of these
>>
>>289534169
Thanks OP! I was sad about this daily ending before its time. I believe in you, you can stop getting banned
>>
>>289534385
Thank you anon, really appreciate it!
>>289534383
Dunno if there'd be any benefit to adding biological components when you can get straight robots
>>
>>289534169

Thanks again OP!

I actually got sucked in by the first chapters so hard that I went through archives and read previous storytimes up to volume 8 by now. Great manga, I know it's going to be one of my all time faves
>>
>>289535004
Definitely one of the greats!
>>
>>289534169
Thanks for dumping, glad to see you back.
>>
>>289537033
Glad you enjoyed anon. What do you think of the story so far?
>>
>>
>>289537242
I read the daily a few years back so this my 2nd time, but I like the somber atmosphere and how it contrasts with the girls' innocence. Not an easy read for some, but one of a kind all the same.
>>
>>289537739
Yeah the contrast is really cool. Is it classified as seinen or were the shonen more mature back in the day?
>>
Henrietta is the cutest and will grow into a fine trad wife
>>
>>289532268
>every day until we die
>OP dies 4 days in
Oh the humanity!
>>
>>289537242

It's doing good job keeping the story serious and believable despite being centered around an absurd concept like little girls transformed into secret government killing machines
>>
>>289538614
Barely but luckily managed to come back to life
>>
>>289532268
oi, OP is back!

>>289532268
You're back, hooray!
>>
>>289538067
I was going to say seinen, but it actually ran in Dengeki Daioh, a shonen magazine.
>>
>>289540018
Guess shonen was just better back then
>>289539732
Thanks, its good to be back!
>>
>>
The public welfare agency seems quite weak all things considered
>>
>>
>>
>>
Just how powerful is a cyborg?
>>
>>289532268
oh shit I completely missed your first few threads! I've been meaning to do a reread, thank you OP

>>
>>289532475

its kinda funny when a real Nihonism slips through in GSG; the author does a good job of tricking me that, cyborg girls and their behaviour aside, that these are real Italians

this series makes me wish I had a daughter
I want to dote on a Triela or a Rico and pat her head and buy her teddy bears and make pancakes for her on a Saturday morning
>>
>>289548326
And fragile enough that some old guy with a rifle can still ruin their day

GSG cyborgs are basically "absurdly strong child soldier" not battle shounen androids. That's what makes it scarier.
>>
>>289548888
Instead of an action game, the video game adaptation should have been a raising sim.

Time for another chapter! Starting volume 2 right about...now!
>>
We start with Rico on the op!
>>
>>289545354
I guess because of the desire to know more about her. I've also noticed anon can get focused on supporting characters quite a lot in other dailies.

I hear some places are quite peaceful, but others really really aren't.

Gotta give it to him, to handle 2 cyborgs and a special agent at once, he is quite capable

Also gotta love Henrietta's yandere tendencies but Jose really needs to set some hard limits or she's gonna end up murdering everyone.
Also is it Jose, Joseph or Giuseppe?
>>
>>
I like how they discuss the morally questionable things the agency has done instead of just taking it matter of fact.

Yes; I've been a half-dozen times an I love it there
I would like to live in Abruzzo though, which isn't a very popular choice of location

>>289555609
No, definitely first time reading this one anon. I watched the anime a long time ago, but still need to finish it properly.
>>
>>289554148
Sure, whatever you think sweety
>>
>>289555686
Nice! Very rare for someone to storytime their first read-through, I hope you enjoy it; this story is one that has fairly big reveals after you get past what was adapted in the anime and it just keeps sending them right up until the end
>>
>>289555804
Thanks anon, definitely enjoying it. I like mysteries and stories like youjo senki and 86 so this one has been a really enjoyable read so far.

I enjoyed the last GSG storytime I managed to catch and it's definitely one of my favorite mango
I'm probably not going to bother rereading yet, but godspeed to you OP
>>
>>289556607
Yeah definitely trying, I mean I have a general idea of the story but trying to enjoy the details and the surprise of what it'll be like will be fun.
>>289556812
Thanks! Still if you ever wanna hang out and comment, feel welcome to do so!
>>
>>289555424
I feel like I've posted this before but the S2 designs kind of follow how the art develops later on in the manga too. I really like the latter manga art, and the issue with S2 designs is mostly just that the overall production is just very low quality
>>
>>289555804
Thanks for the warning, I'm the sort of person who misses spoilers posted plaintext but then clicks on one out of habit.
>>
>>289542664
I remember the Triela one of this set being something
>>
>>289557217
Yeah and afaik the author had a closer direction over season 2 which is a shame

Is a VN for Dreamcast and PS2 by the same author in 2001.
Not related with Gunslinger Girl, but also set in Italy.
There was a fansub who translated only the 1st chapter long time ago.
>>
>>289559935
I assume its mostly for internal communication within the whole SWA, which sometimes could mean an agent in the field might want to call in on a regular landline for something
>>
>>289562825
Isn't that like how secret agents allow tor to run so they have a method to communicate with whistleblowers?
>>
How easy is it to take down a cyborg like this?
>>
>>289564252
Very easy
>give ice cream
>headpats

Triela > Claes > Rest
>>
>>289565386
I'm a first-time reader, but so far, I'd say:
Rico>Triela>Henrietta>Claes
Don't get me wrong, I like all of them, this is just how I would rank the degree of my fondness for each character. Oh, and I'm still kind of unsure about whether I prefer Rico or Triela.
>>
>>289565642
Why not Elsa?
>>
>>289565843
It's harder to rate someone whom you haven't seen alive, especially in relation to "normal" characters. Too much (e.g. manner of speaking, facial expressions, body language) is missing (at least for me), even if the girls' descriptions of her do clue you in on some of her traits. Actually seeing how a character behaves and such, with all the details that entails, plays a big role in how I perceive them and how strong my emotions for them are.
>>
>>289565073

More like demented and schizophrenic
>>
>>289559935
With the phones being tapped and it being a Government Agency anyway I figure it's rather trivial for them to cover up anything the girls could do with the phone as a "misunderstanding" or "a stupid over-imaginative kid's prank".
As said before, the convenience of being able to phone into them or other agents near them is worth the chance of them trying to contact the outside world on their own.

More importantly it lets them TEST their own brainwashing/conditioning methods, if one of the girls start clearly remembering phone numbers from her previous life and is in a mental state where she'd actually start calling them... Time to increase the doping on all these bitches.
>>
>>289566875
And there probably is a system where they can't directly dial out or receive external calls without a middleman.
>>
I would be a bad handler. I would spoil them by giving them sweets and take them to go to fishing, learning music, mating presses and fortnite duos.

It's either a mistranslation or a mistake on Aida's part in the original manuscript. Padania is very explicitly an extremist right-wing movement backed by old money in North Italy, and the series isn't shy about laying that out.

No its just a nice place to eat gelato and wander around
there used to be a number of decent gelatoria's there iirc but last time I was in Rome, about four years ago, there were only two that were open
Also eating gelato in winter is awesome; it takes longer to melt, and there are far shorter lines in busy towns because the Italians really, truly think that 15 degrees celsius is parka weather
in that way, every's dress in this chapter is very authentic to Italian sensibilities

The idea of "left vs. right" in politics goes back to 18th century France, based on where the pro-revolutionary and pro-monarchist factions sat in the French Assembly of the time, respectively. The conflict in this manga is based on a late 90's/early 00's resurgence of the Italian Years of Lead (which took place in the 70's and 80's). You can even see a reference to one of the prominent left wing extremist groups, Brigate Rosse, or the Red Brigade, in this chapter.

They're actually not fully certain about the little girls thing just yet. They do, however, know that the Social Welfare Agency is a front for a new Italian domestic counter-terrorism agency, as they already know that Section 1 is busy guarding the museums they threatened. Section 2 is the cyborg unit and the ones responsible for this raid.

Yeah, it's mentioned Enrico was formerly an Anarchist, those tend to be leftists. It's also why he's couching the very right-wing Padanian goals in leftist terms, ie, protecting the "taxes of northern workers." Henrietta asks the next page if he "changed his mind" while the Section 1 guy brushes it off and says he's just chasing money because he likes to blow shit up. Explains why the localizer was so confused at least.
>>

>>
>>289626562
There sure is a lot of buildup about this conditioning thing, I wonder when we'll actually get to see what they do, and how often it's done?
>>
>>289634349
Sort of, but not really. Conditioning is like programming, and cyborgs are aware of it. Henrietta is like a hammer that knows she's a hammer, understands her purpose as a hammer, and therefore wants to find as many nails as possible. That is the direct result of her conditioning, yet she feels that she is being prevented from fulfilling her conditioned purpose for reasons she doesn't fully understand. The conditioning doesn't solve this issue at its core. Sure, it can mute some of the emotional response, bit it's impossible to eliminate it fully, and overuse could actually exacerbate and undermine the underlying problems, like PTSD from before cyberization. That's what gets Henrietta and Jose killed in the end, after all.

>>289634586
There's a couple panels in the second half of volume 12. It's really just a cocktail of psychoactive drugs and suggestive hypnosis though, so it's not really that dramatic. Just a cyborg sitting in a chair with a VR headset on.

The brainwashing shit? It's already based on existing experimental PTSD treatments (and they're doing it to improve trauma treatments for citizens caught up in terrorist attacks, along with the prosethetics), but using it for brainwashing is so excruciatingly unethical, it could never be done at any scale where it would work as reliably or as targeted as Gunslinger Girl.
>>
>>289642643
Scary to think such tech may become possible one day
>>
I really liked the anime when I first watched it a few (15+, fuck I'm old) years ago.

But I never got around to reading the manga because I knew that all the girls died pretty bad deaths. And while I don't mind drama and some suffering in a story, it feels kind of lame if there's no happy end after the suffering. Tragedy for the sage of tragedy is just boring.
>>
>>289644899
It does have a tendency to be more tragic than anything. If you like girls with guns but can't stand drama, lycoris recoil may be up to your tastes

>>
>>289644899

>>
>>289644899
It's not ALL that grim, 3 of the 9 named gen 1 cyborgs die of natural causes, that's 3/5ths of the central cyborg characters, 4/6 if you add Petra, but if you think there's no happy ending, or that there wasn't anything that came out of it all, you'd be wrong. Sure, none of the individual cyborgs will end up living to see it, but it's not all for nothing.

Thanks, OP!
You know, this storytime along with two others (Twilight Princess and Kuroshitsuji) have made me realise that I ought to read and watch more drama-heavy works. As much as I love light-hearted comedies, my tastes demand a balance between those and the more serious stuff, after all, something that I've been neglecting as of late with my one-sided selections of series.

>>
File: qmjuqwsnppbh1.jpg (96 KB, 1255x1137)
96 KB JPG
>>289656932
I don't think thy ever said it. But I'd find out myself! When I fist started the anime I fell for Henrietta, then Triela, tehn finally Elsa grew on me too. I wish I was her handler. I'd give her all the love she wants.
>>
>>289657209
They are all cute. Also is Elsa slav or is she also italian?
>>
>>289656932
Henrietta was a special case with her own individual backstory and injuries, so I doubt that Elsa had her womb removed, too. Therefore, whether she can get pregnant or not depends on if she's had her period yet, but even if she hasn't, she eventually would get it. Ultimately, for any girl that isn't Henrietta, you'd eventually eventually have to get her on birth control. Condoms may be forgotten or only haphazardly applied in the heat of the moment, and it's doubtful that a cyborg assasin could manage to always take the pill at precisely the same time, seeing how unexpected missions, ambushes, or other surprises could pop up, so something low-maintenance and long-term would be advisable, such as an IUD. Of course, sterilisation is the surest measure, if you're certain about not wanting children.
...please take all of this with a major grain of salt, since these are the speculations of a virgin who's never so much as kissed someone. I've merely done very surface-level research on this topic so my sexual fantasies could be more intricate and realistic, when I feel like thinking up something more complex.
No, but really, I feel like this is an issue the SWA should concern itself with. If one of the girls somehow ends up getting raped, or maybe just had her feelings for her handler reciprocated, then it would be bothersome to deal with a pregnancy. I don't think the agency would have any qualms about performing abortions, but it's much more convenient to prevent one from being needed in the first place. Maybe they could add pregnancy-preventing effects to the substances they give the girls for the conditioning process? Again, I'm far from an expert.
>>
>>289658482
I always thought they would have planned ahead for that in some way. The girls still get their periods. But maybe they could still have some built-in modified stuff on their wombs, ovaries or even vagina to avoid pregnancy. Or maybe they've been conditioned to not enjoy sex (though that would be unlikely considering some of the things these girls do out of their own will >>289654230).
>>
>>289658482
>>289658757
Yeah I think some auto released spermicide would be in order given the risks of working with male handlers.
I'm surprised as another anon asked, that they didn't get shotas instead or female handlers for the girls. I'm sure the agency doesn't care about a male handler using a shota cyborg's boipussy since it wouldn't result in pregnancy. So is there any reason they picked girls?
>>
Why didn't the girls get aimbot cybernetics?
>>
>>289660046
See that always bothered me about the first Terminator, Arnie couldn't hit the broadside of a barn

>>
>>289668954
I think what it means is that she gave an impromptu practical demonstration of their capabilities so now the agency's advocates in policy don't just have to rely solely on theoretical potential. With so many new weapon systems there are opponents who will decry its development before systems have even been put through any physical test.
