Volume 04.This is a spinoff from Black Lagoon, starring Frederica Sawyer, The Cleaner. This manga is very different in style and tone from the original series, and it's based in the light novels written by Gen Urobuchi, where Rei Hiroe had asked him to write in a way which "challenged Black Lagoon's canon." It is written and illustrated by Ida Tatsuhiko, with co-writing by Rei Hiroe. It's more or less like an alternate canon to the main series, presumably the same events but if the setting was much less grounded in reality and where every character is like an exaggerated version of themselves (ergo, the Urobuchi novels). There are themes of the supernatural, which are sometimes gray, with Sawyer being depicted as occasionally experiencing hallucinations (for varying reasons), sometimes making it less clear which events really happened as shown.Though she is canonically capable of speech with the help of handheld speaking aids, she is depicted as basically a silent protagonist in this series, mostly communicating with facial expressions. This is almost unfortunate, as I find her speech very cute, but it works well for the series and the style it's going for.Volume 03: >>289448260

And that's it for Volume 04.Was anyone still looking for a working upload for the high resolution versions of Vol. 01 to 03? Try the previous links again and see if they work, LitterBox can be slightly spotty in uptime.
>>289554577There shouldn't be anyone willing to work with her if she just flies off the handle randomly like this
>>289556623Probably not, which is part of what makes this series pretty ridiculous, and why I consider it 'apocryphal' to the main series (among a lot of other reasons).Giving extra benefit of the doubt, maybe it's one of those things which didn't perhaps even happen.
>>289552685>The pear of anguish, also known as choke pear or mouth pear, is a device of disputed use invented in the early modern period. The mechanism consists of a pear-shaped metal body divided into spoon-like segments that can be spread apart with a spring or by turning a key. Its proposed functionality as a torture device is to be variously inserted into the mouth and other parts of the body and then expanded to gag or mutilate the victim; its historical use as a torture device is controversial.>Some scholars have disputed historical accounts of the pear as being suspiciously implausible.[1] While there exist some examples from the early modern period, some of them open with a spring, and the removable key is there not to open the mechanism, but rather to close it. At least one of the older devices is held closed with a cap at the end, suggesting it could not have been opened after inserting it into an orifice without actively holding it shut. There is no contemporary evidence of such a torture device existing in the medieval era, and ultimately the utility of any genuine pears of anguish remains unknown. It is possible that it could have been used to extract juices from fruit.[2]>The term pear of anguish likely originates as a French pun. In French, poire d'angoisse means simultaneously "pear of anguish" (when translated literally), and "pear from Angoisse" (a particularly vile-tasting variety of pears grown there, also known as a choke pear).Seems like the kind of thing she'd have an example of just as a piece of curiosity.
