Hello friends today we start a journey into demonhood, buttlery and britishness, lets read along
>>289603222Volume storytime, right?
>>289603353yup
>>289603222fuck off attention homo
>faggot child rape mangaEpstein approved, great job OP
>>289603412i try my best
brb
oh great, another story time of an unfinished mangabut this time for massive fujo faggots. exactly what this board needed
>>289603412Don't lie. He got throughly molested by women too.
>>289603372Nice.
Are you from one of the Ladychans? I've heard that they like sh*ta.
I remember when it was super easy to bait dweeb girls into talking with you by bringing up this series. Good times.
>>289605038they're cousins btw
>>289605422what is wrong with that?
>>289603222I'm a massive shotafag but somehow i have never read or watched black butler so this is my chance to finally do it
>>289605502Pay close, close attention to details when reading BB.There's A LOT of foreshadowing, be it in single arcs or in the overall plot. Sometimes the characters' behavior makes sense but the reasoning behind their words is very different.Btw I don't know who translated this one, I hope they were paying attention.Toboso was clearly planning most of her twists since the very start of the series, but she took her time to develop them.Case in point, there's VERY few inconsistencies in the series and they're in the earlier chapters because Toboso wasn't estabilished already (phone and car, for example, show up only in one chapter as you're about to see).I'm not sure you want me to point out the massive amount of hints, especially if this is your first read. Don't spoil yourself, because while on reread BB rules, an unspoiled first read is worth it. Because no twist is completely hidden, so every careful reader can figure them out at their own pace. And if not, well... they're bound to show up on page anyway :)
i will post the rest in 5 hours
>>289605822the 12 y/o girl inside of me is screaming
I'm already sure the translators aren't doing a good job:>>289604288Sebastian's play on words should be "I'm hell of a butler" or something>>289605602>>289605726>>289605749>>289605770>>289605796>>289605822Once you know the full backstory, these pages hit like a truck.Btw>>289605822A good initial instance of ambiguous meaning. Sebastian grins and talks about staying with the young master is perfectly valid but on a reread, you know deep down he's thinking about his prize.Notice the little lord ain't smiling, because he's thinking about his family about his family. Or maybe he's also listening Sebastian's words. If I was in Phantomhive's shoes, I definitively wouldn't smile...
>>289605602>>289605770>>289605845in hindsight, it was so obvious
>>289606392Also, notice the switch is Sebastian's tone: when Sebastian is Serious Business, he addresses Ciel as "you". We will see a throwback to this scene in the Green Witch arc, and for very good reasons. On a reread you can see that here Sebastian isn't angry, but he's definitively pissed off: This whle "enjoying yourself" and "who cares about the ring" would definitively piss off Sebastian. They border on a breach of contract. Ciel MUST remember who he is. He can pretend to enjoy it, but ignoring the ring? No way. Of course Sebastian gets the ring back immediately. He's putting Ciel back into the place he belongs to.
>>289606392kek I was waiting for that phrase too. Also when does he use the>A butler who can't do X isn't worth his salt
>>289603222is the manga still going? this was pretty great
>>289606876It's still running but who knows when it'll end. Pls just tell us who the killer was Yana
>>289607456You can figure it out already my friend :)Wanna some big hints? 1Although still uncomfirmed on page, there's a person in the series who made a contract with something else - pay close attention and you'll see this person is getting three things out of their deal, exactly like the MC. We have, at very least, already saw two of them. I bet I know all three of them but I cannot prove it. 2 The Phantomhives were not good people, the kill is justified. 3, and most important one, Sebastian knows the culprit's identity. Indirectly, but he told it as plainly as it gets. Only, Ciel refused to ask because CIEL IS NOT STUPID. Keep in mind Sebastian knows and notice how he's nudging Ciel, you should guess the identity. And who knows, maybe even their motives.
The art reminds me of D Gray Man
>>289607763Is this the big twist? because it is show in the wiki page
>>289607763>other contractOh, the Queen? I also caught on when John Brown got to Germany suspiciously fast and has his eyes covered. She's definitely my #1 suspect but isn't the motive still in the air? I can't remember if Vincent did anything bad enough to warrant that.
>>289603222But he's white
Also I remember reading a really convincing fan theory that Lau was the true culprit. Guess I'll spend the rest of the day trying to find it again
>>289608371MotivePossibility 1: she can predict what butterflies can change the world. Dad Phantomhive was in cahoots with too many foreigners. Possibility 2, and this is my bet: he sickkked Albert, and that's why she also asks the contractor to "have him back to life", in a sort of way. Toboso plays it like a joke. I don't think it is. Possibility 3, she felt they were too powerful, yadda yadda. In any case, I don't think the whole Eyes Wide Shut party was her intention. There's multiple reasons for that: she didn't expect Ciel to show up again; and certainly she wouldn't allow other dudes to summon the devil, I mean, that's pure nonsense. On that she's innocent, and that's 100% intentional on Toboso's behalf. Remember: she punished Ciel with the whole Doyle arc. The punishment alone creates a precedent. But it's also a test, not only to see if Ciel is fit (he is, and she knows that), but also if he's loyal. I bet his father wasn't. At least not in the long run. Way too many german contacts. I bet Lau will be the one to spill the beans on the subject.
I've caught up to the manga multiple times in the past, but honestly I prefer the s1+s2 version of the story than the manga.Yana goes out of her way to destroy all the relationships and characters I liked. I particularly hate what she did to Ciel and Lizzie throughout the story. The fag school arc in the manga was hilarious though.
Chapter 3
>>289609327That's because Black Butler is not a shojo action/comedy with moments of horror. It's a tragedy, and it has always been. Ciel cannot escape Sebastian. He'll try to, but he'll fail. That's why Yana Toboso reminds us, from time to time, that between other things he's also a vicious bastard. Because he won't end well. The bad ending goes along with the theme of the work, but also on a metanarrative level. Who's gonna save Ciel, huh? The """friends""" he keeps exploiting? Or the ones that died already? Ciel got no friends, no real lover, no family. Only his revenge. The final tragedy will be realizing after his revenge that to get there, he sacrificed all his alternatives. And learning that those alternative would have gladly helped him against Sebastian. Any other kind of ending is the editor coping out. Which is why the manga is taking it long to end Until Toboso doesn't provide enough reasons for the shojo readers to open their eyes, the ending won't be 100% well received. She gotta off most of the cast, and off the rest in the final arc. Re: Snake. Trust me, there's a reason why many arcs end in a bittersweet way on surface level, but objectively with Ciel looking like a vicious bastard.
Chapter 4
Cool
>>289609561I still prefer the way the anime handles things.S1 shows Ciel reaching the endgame of his revenge, fully accepting that Sebastian is going to eat his soul, reminiscing of all his loved ones he's leaving behind. It's bittersweet, but a deal is a deal.Although I think S2 didn't need to exist, because the ending of S1 was pretty good, but it still has good points to Ciel's story, like how he'd gladly through himself in danger to save Lizzy even with Sebastian right there, which is one of the things I've always liked about their relationship and that Yana destroyed. The ending is great, with Sebastian and Claude being punished for stabbing everyone in the back for an entire season. Ciel and Lizzy's last dance is one of my favorite scenes as well because of how bittersweet it isAlso, fuck manga Undertaker and his wild ride.TL;DR I prefer the bittersweet timeline of the anime than the miserable experience of the manga.
>>289611080i see
>>289610676>>289610366>Automatic gun>Phone>CarEnjoy these inconsistencies, from the next volumes onwards Yana isn't going to make those mistakes anymore. Although by this point, more than mistakes, it's that she hadn't really decided the timeline BB was set in. After all, the first chapters are to hook on the public. From now on, the only inconsistencies you'll see either come from atemporal creatures of from explicit comedic scenes. And the toys. And maybe some gas masks from a certain arc, but we have a lot of volumes for that.Generally, early chapters in a manga don't count. The Japanese popularity format almost forbids authors for complete consistency, sadly.
will post the extras in a minute
>>289611435>Zawa zawaOnomatopeia aside, the shadow graphic effect will come back a lot of volumes later. Internal consistency up to the roof, if you know the series already.
Hellsing but gay?
>>289603248Btw it's funny to find only four chapters in the contents section, if you compare it to the latest volumes. Especially if you compare the daytime descriptors.
>>289603830How are they employed?
>>289611810This is a very smart question, and it will be unironically answered through the series.
Her art was rough in the beginning holy shit
And thats it for volume 1, did you like it?It only gets darker
>>289612053I unironically believe Yana Toboso's art improvement are topped only by Hiro Mashima.I don't give a shit about Mashima's writing and series: on an artistic standpoint, his improvement and development into a personal, recognizable and most importantly good art style is an absolutel anomaly. Yana Toboso comes close though. But she had one published work already. Mashima published Rave and halfway he literally unlocked.
>>289612099Thanks OP, this manga changed my life and I'm happy to reread it.I still get hyped at the action scenes and the big reveal >>289611943 is alluding to is one of my favorite moments in fiction period. This volume foreshadows it a little but it's very easy to ignore.
>>289603222Awesome.
>>289612250>his manga changed my lifehow?
>>289613048Perhaps it turned him into a shotacon.
>>289613048It influenced my taste in fashion, v-kei, and pretty much art in general. I was also never that big into tragedy until I read Kuroshitsuji and got the appeal. It touched a part of my soul that I never really knew was there.
>>289605504Oh, come on. Let him get one in. She needs it.
>>289603222>>289611036
>>289604022This makes it sound like Chlaus is from Italy, and that seems a bit off.
>>289613788But I am already a fudan.
Well now I know not to discuss this series on /a/ anymore
>>289612250>This volume foreshadows it a littleThe guy that's strong enough to accidentally break a cane? So even though they're incompetent they're useful for other things?>>289615117What do you mean?
>>289611810Lets just sayThey weren't hired for there service skills
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaqVr4aadtw;_;
Between the homoerotic age gap, the shota ryona, and the attention shown to fancy, posh food and clothes, this is already the most fujo thing I've ever seen and it's only the first volume.
>>289616390This is published in a shonen magazine for boys who like cool action and tragic backstories, stop speaking this fujo nonsense.
>>289616586I wonder how many boys actually read this? Even something like Hanako-kun probably has more male readers.
>>289617509>Hanako-kun probably has more male readersI don't know about that, I could see boys preferring to read a story about avenging your murdered parents than Hanako-kun's mushy shoujo soap opera. I like both btw.
>>289603222Keeping thread open to read it later. Meanwhile I'll post a cute Ciel.
>>289618164Bump for anon to read later
>>289612099Danke op. Black Butler was one of the first manga I've ever read and I just recently decided to catch up on it. I think I stopped right around the "THAT" reveal. I'm hoping to be able to spot more hints of it, or have some anons point it out for me. Anyways, ciel sexo and Enamel is one of the best ops of all time.
>>289611110Ciel is so pretty he turns you gay
>>289611260I understand how Sebastian x Ciel became so popular
>>289604973Aw, she's cute.
>>289605365It really does suit him, unlike the outfits she forced upon the others.
>>289621622Dressing up the others was just a game. Dressing up her fiance is serious business.
>>289612099Thanks, OP.I'm very much interested in seeing where this is going.
>>289611576This first volume is a pretty good intro to the setting. You have this gradual slope from some sort of "competent butler SoL/comedy" to this.A lot of manga feel the need to establish the whole thing in the first chapter, so even seeing a "slow" burn from the start is nice.
>>289604875Must be a smart kid then he's like a mini kaiba.
>>289611396>>289611413Reminds me of Hellsing>>289611471So the important question is did they eat the pie?
>>289612099Yeah it was fun, thanks for dumping
>>289612099thankie opie
