The issue of trying to assign HxH characters to real life racial equivalents is that Togashi even more so then Oda mixes and matches without sticking to a theme. With Oda he made Blue planet to have an overall Japanese theme and cultural overlay across the board and made each island a mirror to a culture in the real world. Togashi however didnt do that, he instead just mixes and matches for asthetics. Look at the Zolydcks, they live in Africa, have the star of David as a design motif with a general Chinese theme but their names aren't tied to any theme. Its mainly because Togashi Is a design first story 2nd kind of guy. He draws a character and then creates them after he does. He also doesnt give a fuck about names mirror a real world equivalent. In Dressora characters are named with a Spanish and Italian theme while in Kakin which is clearly based on China and Russia Togashi is just using a scrabble board ro name characters. One isnt better or worse then the other its just a diffrent approach to world building. Togashi also draws his characters realistically and they tend to look east asian. His realistic Hisoka portraits all have Hisoka with a clear Japanese face despite being named Hysoka Morrow. So then its like is he the Japanese equivalent then? This is an issue with certain one piece characters as well. The Admrials which are all named with a distinct Japanese name and also based on Japanese actors has people arguing if they're Japanese / Wano / Yano or not.
