The BDs and movie on streaming services are finally out. Why the fuck did it take Uf*table so fucking long?
>>289741478the usual practice for movies is to not release them on bd and streaming until they've finished running in movie theaters
>>289741478I just want to say the Akaza fight in the movie was far superior to how it was in the manga. The manga version was honestly a bit underwhelming.Makes me really curious as to how much of a spectacle the Kokushibo fight will be in the next movie considering it was possibly the best one in the manga.
>>289742523kokushibo will be in the third film, won't it?
>>289742762No, there's no way it would be humanly possible to make a movie just of the rest of the doma fight.
>>289742762Infinity Castle I>Douma vs Shinobu, Akaza vs Giyu and TanjiroInfinity Castle II>Douma vs Kanao and Inosuke, Kokushibo vs Hashiras and GenyaAnd then the third film will be the Sunrise Countdown arc. Can't imagine it being done any other way.
i can't believe this shit made a grown man like me cry. akaza's past fucking destroyed me
>>289741478Where the fuck is the 4K HDR version ??
>>289742944ah, that makes more sense
>>289743081I only felt bad for the girl
>>289742523They blew up the scale of the infinity fortress so much they pretty much had to blow up the scale of the battle to match itIt makes me wonder how they're going to contrive the Kokushibo battle so that it doesn't naturally move a thousand lightyears away from Muichiro and Genya to the point that they don't know where the fuck anyone is anymore by the time they're ready to get back into it.
>>289741478The production values for this movie blow my fucking mind. I don't think I've ever seen anything that blends 2D animation and 3DCG assets as smoothly as ufotable pulled off here. The lighting especially is jaw dropping
>>289742523I read the manga right after I saw the movie in theatres and I have to agree. Absolutely hyped for Upper 2's fight.
>>289743396I'm really looking forward to how they do the destruction of the infinity fortress now that it's the size of the death star
>>289743654All you are saying is that idiots who enter theatre expecting a standalone movie get what they fucking deserve: a bad time.Going by box office record-breaking, there has been a very small amount of such idiots, thankfully.
I love how they never reuse songs in this series, they just reuse motifs in different ways.
>>289743654Who could this anon be?Surely he isn't a well-known fool who spent 6 years seething at Kimetsu.
How did you guys feel about Shinobu's death? It seemed rather sudden to me when I first watched the film... and even when I first read that moment in the manga.like realistically Shinobu was never gonna take down upper 2 by herself but it felt like it wasn't treated with the same gravitas as Rengoku's for example
>>289744014Anon, she serves as a wake-up for the audience that the arc stops playing games, especially since the Swordsmith Arc had two Hashiras surviving against the Two Upper Rank demons albeit it took alot of luck and effort to do so.You can't expect her to match Rengoku's influence.
>>289744014In the manga there wasn't a year long break between the infinite fortress starting before it happened, then another two year break until the resolution of the battle. It was shocking but you didn't have to sit with it much and it was right on the heels of the Ubayashiki suicide bombing which also said "this is the final war arc"
>>289744103There is so much shit going on that there wasnt any time to really mourn her passing. Also her fight technically isnt over yet.
>>289744118*but the way it is did make me feel sorry for all the little girls in shinobu costumes going to the movie to see her get splattered.
>>289743997Hi Jeremy. Took a break from seething about Kagurabachi?
>>289741478>Why the fuck did it take Uf*table so fucking long?$$$
>>289744014Wasn't as impactful as I thought it would be, didn't cry as I thought I would
>>289743245>>289741478why not a 2160p release?
>Hakuji wonders why sick people apologize for things that aren't their fault>his last moments before he goes to the afterlife are apologizing for things that weren't his fault
>>289744258That battle is not really designed for an emotional payoff there yet. Kanao rushes in before there's any closure.
>>289744271so what's the answer?
>>289744464The real answer is that the sick person is trying hard to be deferential enough not to be abandoned. But the point was that Hakuji is such a pure protector that he can't even see the possibility of abandoning the ill person.
>>289744578>>289744464>>289744271It's bullshit fairytale for children. If you wanna know how sick people actually behave around their families play/watch silent hill 2, then you'll know what Hell means.

>>289744529I too won a lot of money from a grievance settlement and about to get even more from a class action lawsuit and Im using that money to watch the second film multiple times when it drops in theaters.
>>289741478I just rewatched the movie 5 times first with this black couple reactor channke which was nice then the full movie with Nicholas light then Michael Angelo then rt tv uh I can't remember who else darn. Not at 1x speed of course. What a dopamine rush
>>289742523Hmmm.... I'm inclined to disagree I thought the manga fight was fucking awesomeUfotable did a great job thoughThey absolutely ruined fate but with kimetsu since they had a full storyboard and all the character facial expressions and emotional displays were already thumbnailed for them they had very few opportunities to fuck upAlthough there were still presentations they could have done more artisticallyE.g."I can't hear out of my left ear" - actually zoom at his ear a bit, or do a transparent legoshi sniffing kind of effect, or actually mess with the audio, or have him move to imply that etc"Worthless past... Worthless..." Should have made the delivery better and how it was clearly contradicted like a total 180 by him seeing koyuki again, super strong "snapping out of something" feeling "I stayed with her through the night" "I gave her water" but during that narration it just shows him carrying her. Idk if it's sotozaki's fault but ufotable is always obsessed with the most plain "realistic" pacing so much of the time and doesn't ever want to show "too many scenes" if you feel what I meanAnd also a lot of the time in fights, it might be due to their 3d work process but so many shots felt haphazard, like no shape theory, no planned negative Space, just randomly chosen. Like characters in a key key frame, just at a randomly diagonal tilt at a random angle without much artistic merit. I'm not talking about mid-sakuga either.Overall amazing adaptation of courseManga better thoughNot because of the movie's shortcomings or anything, manga just better>>289743396You (and I) are inevitably biased towards the first way you experience something
>>289744529>I I I Iso desperate to feel like you matter because no one loves you
>>289745754>for a casual viewerWho cares about them? Movie isnt for them
>>289743081It's very very well written. He has 3 strong relationships with different individuals in his backstory alone not to mention we know about him from his interactions with rengoku and tanjirou twice, plus his influence from muzan, if used properly that is enough to paint a good portrait of a human character if the artist is skilled (she is quite skilled, she learned from the best (sorachi) after all). Stuff like him hating weaklings (poisoners, and dying of illness, i.e. I'm unable to protect them so I hate myself, who is the true weak one) and liking the strong (they don't die, rengoku don't die on me since you can be strong etc) are established from early on, and croc wrote a great tragedy plotline by first taking a tragedy and then showing recovery (koyuki recovery, akaza was able to redeem himself for not taking care of his father, he turned his violence to something good and proper, akaza's criminal past was overturned) and then sinking him into a deeper pit, making it humans and not oni that sunk him in the end (as opposed to all demon slayers being haunted by demons in their backstories) was cool, the visual motifs too, fireworks and snowflakes playing into his visuals etc, and even details like the komainu thing (akaza, his demon name, apparently means "castrated dog in a pit" (forced to fight or something) as opposed to the komainu dog protector of a house)And of course the foundations are gintama (don't search these if you haven't experienced gintama - actual spoilers) akaza parallels kamui, his master emanates shouyo sensei, the whole "we have swords in our hearts", I'm a bit sleepy but just how croc writes in general, not to mention the kind of fights (spoiler but gintama plays a big role in how fights work in kimetsu overall).
>>289746377Don't reply to the resident troll, compulsive liar with no principles, nothing to be gained from engaging
>>289744271>All of Akaza's abilities, fighting style and looks relate to Keizo and Koyuki>Akaza's main ability is to sense killing intent
imagine all the animeonly shinobufags (especially the ones that shipped her with ugly and gay) upon watching this movie
>>289746722So basically me
I just wish we got to see Shinobu naked
Jeremy lost...
>>289746502In regards to the tragedy plotline (aka the situational angle), just wanted to add the croc basically took several super strong basically primal fantasies for men and shoved them all into one character as well, competently weaving them through one short film basically (the akaza short film subtracting the other two fights, I mean - yes I know it's a weekly manga originally but I'm just using short film as a metaphor for story length). Caring for one's father. Having to stoop low and be a criminal for righteous reasons. Reforming oneself. Training. Growing strong enough for your master to recognize you. Taking care of a weak girl who only has you to rely on. Inheriting the family/property/tradition of your father (well, dojo dad). Losing everything you wanted to protect. Going on a fully justified violence spree due to that tragedy By the way, I put together a short anthology of musings I made on various stories I like here, plaintext for simplicity pastes.io/1c3fnfqF would love for any fellow manga, anime, VN, LN etc lovers to check it out and see if it's bullshit or not (for example there's a lot of good stuff for Yu-Gi-Oh GX that gets overlookedContinued, It's like she lined up all the things that get to men on an ape brain level and somehow struck the center of the dartboard with all of them, stringing them up with the darts into one single thread of story.>>289744271Didn't even notice that one. There's so much resonance throughout his story, it's so lovely. Can't believe it was part of a weekly manga, she must have thought of it well in advance>>289746682The killing intent one I can see too to a degree, crazy stuff>>289746722I can see how it would be upsetting that giyuu seemed to basically have to reaction yeah.

>>289746947The way all these people went in hating Akaza to making him their Top 10 anime villian was a sight to behold.>>289746802Im sure Ufotable and Aniplex are absolutely devastated
>>289747272>The way all these people went in hating Akaza to makingTrue, gotta love it. (Are you judging the sentiment off of X or something? YouTube maybe?) Honestly though i think a lot of people already loved akaza (as a villain), but now they got to fall in love with him all over again and deeper and as a humanAlso stop replying to the troll lol
>>289747287
>>289747330Youtube mainly since they are mostly the anime only folk. Literally watch them go from "Its get back time Akaza, this is for Rengoku you son of a bitch" to crying bitch tears at how much life fucked him up. Even saw a girl get mad that the movie made her love Akaza after that.

>>289747412Haha. Yup, some fine writing for sure. Love to see the 180
MODS = GODS
>>289747380tanjiro x mitsuri is extremely better received and canon
>>289747661this but also tanjiro x shinobu
>>289746947Rengoku managed to saved every single passenger and Tanjiro's life in exchange for his own while Akaza couldnt protect anyone while he was a human. Im more interested in how anime onlies will react to Kokushibo since the tragedy was self inflicted and realized it too late.
>>289747724Nah, insect pussy is ugly and old
>>289746947it's really obvious the entire rest of the manga was written to culminate in the infinite fortress battles. e.g. the Shinazugawa brothers were always there to foil Yoriichi and Michikatsu. 100% Akaza's entire backstory like the Edo criminal tattoos, his lower class hakama, the snowflake, the fireworks, etc. was fully conceived for the Rengoku fight, which he was foiled against as the protector sacrificing himself for the weak which Akaza despite playing the survival of the fittest guy wished he could have been.
>>289741478ermmm bwos which release should I get
>>289747787Me in the middle front row

>>289747743You're just stating facts that are irrelevant to my post...?>>289747756>spoilerOh yeah for sure, although I think it's debatable if the "infinite fortress" part of the "infinite fortress battles" was always a constant. Also there were weaker battles in there that felt less built up to too ofc but I won't bother with bringing them up in detail. Anyone who loves KnY will obviously think there are better and less good fightsAnd yep def agree with everything you said
>>289747787Tamayo sex
>>289744014The deaths never hit that hard because half of them feel like they happen just for the sake of killing someone off or in the same arc they do something of relevance
>>289747887(Spoilers) Sure, I could agree that roughly half the deaths didn't hit that hard. The other half more than made up for it
Oh dear, oh my. And it seems my presence made these poor souls upset. This year keeps shaping up to be a good year, so far! World Cup, The Odyssey, South American girls... I feel like a king and this year isn't even halfway done.>>289747647Mad? He's mad~ Go outside, get some air. Talk to some girls. Trust me, you'd feel good. As we speak right now, I'm talking to an Argentinian girl. You're getting pretty~ upset over little me saying some mean things about some Japanese kids cartoon.>>289747272Obviously, they aren’t devastated. The movie was very profitable and set records for anime, lol. But profitability and "did this function as a crossover theatrical event?" are two different questions. The 76% drop and limited legs are the market's answer to that bet. That's a fair, evidence-based observation and both can be true at the same time.>>289747392No blood will go to waste under my watch! I will now drink your blood!
>>289741478Huh. Is that why it's on Netflix now? Already saw it in the movies, but that's cool I guess.
>Kokushibo coerced Kaigaku into turning into a demon, a guy that was so prideful he threw his humanity away and hated sharing the spotlight with Zenitsu.>Kokushibo threw his humanity away because he was too prideful to let Yorrichi upsurp him and became obsessed with being better than him.>Six eyes = Six arms
>>289747842I just like discussing the parallels in the series and you've engaged me so far.
>>289748024Kaigaku was more of a throw away your pride, as long as you're not dead you win guy
>>289748064Oh my lack of sleep totally made me misinterpret your post as something where you were trying to say akaza sucks because he couldn't protect anyone and rengoku is way better or something. I wasn't conscious enough to get your point when I first read it. My sincere apologies, really. I'm glad I hopefully got to correct my mistake before I went to bed.
>>289748079Sounded pretty prideful to me during thw fight. Btw its strange how he seems to remember his past perfectly fine which was considered an anomaly with Douma.
>>289748148Maybe it's because it was just a few years ago? I'm just coming up with that off the spot though
>>289748148I thought people that willingly became demons typically had strong memories of their human lives
>>289748124No worries its all good. Just adds another layer of tragedy to Akaza setting someone succeed at something he tried to do like that other anon said. Everything in KnY feels so tight knit and croc planning out the entire story with the first editor was the smartest move and really shows.
So akaza lost his memory probably in part because of his brain literally being stabbed through? Or was it just the stand memory loss do you think
>>289748241Lots of unwillingly turned demons lost their human memories except unconscious things like the hand demon.
>>289748241*StandardAGH>>289748217Tragic indeed.Oh fuck and imagine being akaza when tanjirou yelled "he protected everyone so rengoku won!" How that must fucking feel (even if the specific reasons for that being enraging are not in active memory)Was there a source for her planning out the whole story with the first editor? No need to link it just curious if you read it or are inferring. And yes! Tight knit. I find it very impressive (even if it was perfectly planned in advance) as many mangaka say weekly manga is "hell".
>>289748295*I meant, even if it was perfectly planned out in advance (which itself is very commendable and impressive), it is still very impressive that the plan was implemented so well in a weekly manga
>>289748325*...on a weekly basis.Writing is hard
>>289748241I interpert it as demon's losing their humanity leads to them losing their memories hence why the demons that had basically no humanity even as humans can remember their past or chunks of it. Only the most primal parts stick around.
>>289744162I dunno. I don't read Kagurabachi, so I wouldn't be able to tell or seethe about it. I did watch the Demon Slayer movie, though. And as a movie... it sucked. The animation looks nice, but nice animation and hype fights isn't enough in filmmaking. This isn't even me speaking out of hate, this movie is just a structural mess from start to finish. It picks up directly after Season 4, mid-conflict, with minimal re-establishment for newcomers. It feels like some stitched-together episodes or this long binge session rather than a proper film with a clear beginning, middle and end. Mugen Train wasn't very good either but for different reasons and it still worked much better as a somewhat standalone story; this doesn't. It's also full of flashbacks. I heard people meme about it, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but it's literally overloaded with flashbacks. They repeatedly interrupt the action at critical moments, killing momentum and pacing for anyone not already invested. It feels like emotional shorthand instead of earned growth in the momentAnd the movie is mostly just actiob scenes. The writing and character development lean on prior investment. For casual viewers or those who find the core story mediocre, it can feel like a highlight reel without enough substance, humor, or fresh stakes to carry the runtime. If you're a fan, you're in for a treat. But to a casual viewer, they'd get bored very fast if the story doesn't have much going to it and if the writing is weak character-wise. I'm sorry, but I get really, REALLY irritated when the characters have to spell out their thoughts, their feelings, what they do and the thesis of the story instead of leaving it up to the viewer to interpret. It wears its themes too much on its sleeves and this movie has little faith in the audience's intelligence. I know this is a kids show, but it's not really a good excuse when HxH exists and it's catered to the same demographic.
>>289748295there's an omake comic with gotouge talking about katayama the editor being yanked off demon slayer after launching it but still early in serialization and him being mortified about it, and they basically did an all nighter planning the rest of the manga together before he left
>>289748591Oh katayama is the one who helped tabata with black clover's planning too, katayama is really a goat. Maybe he's how tabata and gotouge became friends too
>>289748295It was in that mini comic in the demon slayer fanbooks about how her working with her editor Tatsuhiko Katayama on KnY. He was leaving soon so they sat down and planned out the chapters before the new editor took over.
>>289741478wow I was waiting so long for it to come out on streaming and now I just don't care, maybe I'll bother watching it when they announce the next one and I regain my interest.
>>289749034Also lol at how much that little caricature looks like him. Also fucking webp image formats.
>>289746514Where's the lie? The 76% 2nd weekend drop in the US from a massive $70m to $17m is real, documented data. That kind of steep fall is a sign for heavily pre-sold, fan driven event films that don't generate strong word of mouth or crossover appeal.Calling someone a liar for pointing at data is just you trying to shut down discussion around the biggest elephant in the room and being more keen to protecting the vibe. Regardless, I gave the movie a shot (and that's very generous), explained why it didn't work as a film for me, praised the animation, and compared it fairly to other works. That's not trolling, that's criticism. Learn to take it. If people gave my favorite series crap I'd say "I mean, you're not wrong."
Oh god, he really is still actually going. What the fuck.
>>289749344I mean, this IS an imageboard to talk about weeb media. And I got a bunch of replies, lol. Some on-topic with what I say, others some weird stuff. Not that I mind, you'd have to be a complete weirdo to post on /a/ which we all are.
>the J is hereIt's been 7 years and counting...
>>289749538I mean, you're also here, so it evens out. Honestly, I'm only replying to you because I'm bored and need something to waste a little time on, lol.I *did* say the animation looks nice even if I dislike the movie, btw. So it's not like it's the worst slop ever made in the history of slop. This movie is still sloppy, but I'm just giving context for why it works for fans but not for casuals like ME.
>>289749261>>289749440stop ban-evading already you massive faggot
>>289749733Stop crying and learn to take a little banter, lol. Nothing of what I say breaks the rules, I'm still talking about this movie. Just because I don't like it and I talk about what I don't like about it doesn't it mean I'm off-topic. It just means my posts got under your skin.I wouldn't mind if you called my favorite series low-brow slop and you'd probably be right.
289749705>admits he's a casual Now go back
>>289743838The best song version for me is in the Sea of Clouds and Haze scene, but the scebe itself was underwhelming. A shame.
>>289750091Yeah, I am a casual viewer. And that is literally the entire point. Got a problem? A 3,300+ theatrical release taking up public screen space with a separate ticket price is *supposed* to appeal to casuals, but it never did. It's a closed-circuit product engineered exclusively for people who have already done homework across multiple seasons of television, alienating anyone else. I'm not going to watch 4 seasons of TV just to learn why the main character can swing his sword harder or some purple girl crying over this green dude. Tell your story as a standalone piece with a clearly defined beginning, middle and end.
>>289750470Movie wasnt made for filthy casuals like yourself. Get filtered.
Imagine losing to KNY since 2019
sweet, a schizo thread
>>289751406I mean, for me, I don't care since I won plenty this year, lol. I got to watch The Odyssey and I'm keeping it alive on the screens. I got to experience Michael on IMAX and danced with cute girls. I betted that Spain would win the World Cup and I won a lot of money... I'm the king of the world right now. I'll also be watching Spider-Man Brand New Day tomorrow and turn it into a billion dollar hit, it's my superpower.Demon Slayer seems to be kind of the loser here, though. But in a different way. Sure, it made money, but it still yearns for Hollywood-senpai's validation. It's funny how they thought box office was a one way ticket to the Oscars but they ignored them and gave them the cold shoulder. Not the first time either, they ignored them 6 years ago too with Mugen Train, lol. Serves to show you that bad movies can smash the box office and they do it all the time. Good movies underperform and they do it all the time. Blade Runner? My favorite movie of all time and a flop. I will admit though, I am surprised and fascinated at the dissonance between this franchise's commercial success and its minimal staying power.
>I don't care>immediate paragraphs of cope Dont you have a wsj thread to terrorize?

>>289753540The definition of a jobber
>>289752380No idea. I honestly don't care about some trivial fandom tribalism. I'm sort of on a lucky streak right now as we speak and I've been having a good year so far and I'll continue to do do. Take it up with someone else who might show a little bit of interest, lol.I also just so happened to have watched this "movie" and I didn't like it. As a movie, it sucked and showed no respect for the movie format which it clearly exploited to get more money from the superfans. This isn't even a movie, becaise it treats the theatrical audience the same way a weekly episode treats the TV audience; "you already know who these people are and why this matters." This works for the core fandom and for a trilogy that is essentially one long adaptation of the manga’s climax stretched across three films. It does *not* work as a self-contained piece of cinema for anyone who isn't already invested. If this movie succeeded, then it's not because the movie itself was a good cinematic experience or it's a critical darling. It simply succeeded out of brand recognition and sheer inertia. This is a common anime movie trap when studios adapt ongoing arcs instead of self-contained stories. Mugen Train got away with it more easily because it was a relatively contained side story with a clearly defined beginning, middle, and emotional payoff. Infinity Castle is the opposite. It's the start of the endgame and the film is structured like episodes 1-3 of the final season, but with a bigger budget. That is a legit screenwriting failure if the goal is a movie rather than the next three chapters on a giant screen.
>>289753580No, Giyu is 100% better than Rengoku in terms of skill because Rengoku was getting fucked up and Giyu still had all his limbs afterwards
>>289744014Her death should've been in the climax of Doma fight, instead of jobbing in the prelude of it. Would've made both Shinobu and Doma look better
>>289753780Opposite effect on me. Because the flashbacks were really detrimental and ruined the overall experience of an already subpar movie carried entirely by the animation. In a way, this movie is like the anime equivalent of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie that was also just 98 minutes of flashy visual key jingling rather than a cohesive, well-paced narrative.Demon Slayer has always leaned hard on flashbacks to make up for its lack of character development, especially the Upper Rank demons and Hashira. On TV, spaced out over weeks, those sequences can hit hard because the audience has time to sit with these characters between episodes. In a 155-minute theatrical sit, they start to feel like the film is pausing the actual plot to remind you WHY you should care. If you already have the emotional attachment from the series, they land. If you don't, they feel like stalling dressed up as pathos. The manga does the same thing; the movie just inherits the technique and amplifies the downtime because the action is so dense.I again can't stress enough how this movie is mostly just action scemes. Pure spectacle has diminishing returns for a casual viewer. Once the novelty of "holy shit the animation!!" wears off, a nearly 3-hour runtime that is mostly fight > flashback > fight starts to feel long and meandering if the character work and narrative momentum aren't carrying equal weight. Fans of the series are more willing to sit through it because they already care about the outcomes and the specific matchups. A more general audience is less patient.
>>289754554>A more general audience is less patient.and nobody here cares about that "audience"
>>289754391No it had to be toward the middle. The manga makes it very clear that they had no chance of killing Doma in a fair fight.
>>289741478Predictions on where the second movie will end?
>>289754602Don't reply to the AIslop bot
>>289749168I think tabata drew him as a beaver first kek
>>289753580That's what always happens in shonen manga. Power scaling goes out of control and characters that were supposed to be strong 200000 chapters ago look weak. Akaza's compass thing hadn't even been invented back then.
I miss you guys, including you Jimmy
Damn I was watching bluest reacts and he said something really cool, when he saw that kanae and kanao both used flower breathing, he went "I just realized shinobu probably uses insect breathing because she CAN'T use flower breathing" (she can't behead demons, she's too small and weak etc)Such a cool detail man. Resonance throughout a work!
