They absolutely ruined fate but with kimetsu since they had a full storyboard and all the character facial expressions and emotional displays were already thumbnailed for them they had very few opportunities to fuck up
Although there were still presentations they could have done more artistically
E.g.
"I can't hear out of my left ear" - actually zoom at his ear a bit, or do a transparent legoshi sniffing kind of effect, or actually mess with the audio, or have him move to imply that etc
"Worthless past... Worthless..." Should have made the delivery better and how it was clearly contradicted like a total 180 by him seeing koyuki again, super strong "snapping out of something" feeling
"I stayed with her through the night" "I gave her water" but during that narration it just shows him carrying her. Idk if it's sotozaki's fault but ufotable is always obsessed with the most plain "realistic" pacing so much of the time and doesn't ever want to show "too many scenes" if you feel what I mean

And also a lot of the time in fights, it might be due to their 3d work process but so many shots felt haphazard, like no shape theory, no planned negative Space, just randomly chosen. Like characters in a key key frame, just at a randomly diagonal tilt at a random angle without much artistic merit. I'm not talking about mid-sakuga either.

Overall amazing adaptation of course

It's very very well written.
He has 3 strong relationships with different individuals in his backstory alone not to mention we know about him from his interactions with rengoku and tanjirou twice, plus his influence from muzan, if used properly that is enough to paint a good portrait of a human character if the artist is skilled (she is quite skilled, she learned from the best (sorachi) after all). Stuff like him hating weaklings (poisoners, and dying of illness, i.e. I'm unable to protect them so I hate myself, who is the true weak one) and liking the strong (they don't die, rengoku don't die on me since you can be strong etc) are established from early on, and croc wrote a great tragedy plotline by first taking a tragedy and then showing recovery (koyuki recovery, akaza was able to redeem himself for not taking care of his father, he turned his violence to something good and proper, akaza's criminal past was overturned) and then sinking him into a deeper pit, making it humans and not oni that sunk him in the end (as opposed to all demon slayers being haunted by demons in their backstories) was cool, the visual motifs too, fireworks and snowflakes playing into his visuals etc, and even details like the komainu thing (akaza, his demon name, apparently means "castrated dog in a pit" (forced to fight or something) as opposed to the komainu dog protector of a house)
And of course the foundations are gintama (don't search these if you haven't experienced gintama - actual spoilers) akaza parallels kamui, his master emanates shouyo sensei, the whole "we have swords in our hearts", I'm a bit sleepy but just how croc writes in general, not to mention the kind of fights (spoiler but gintama plays a big role in how fights work in kimetsu overall).

In regards to the tragedy plotline (aka the situational angle), just wanted to add the croc basically took several super strong basically primal fantasies for men and shoved them all into one character as well, competently weaving them through one short film basically (the akaza short film subtracting the other two fights, I mean - yes I know it's a weekly manga originally but I'm just using short film as a metaphor for story length). Caring for one's father. Having to stoop low and be a criminal for righteous reasons. Reforming oneself. Training. Growing strong enough for your master to recognize you. Taking care of a weak girl who only has you to rely on. Inheriting the family/property/tradition of your father (well, dojo dad). Losing everything you wanted to protect. Going on a fully justified violence spree due to that tragedy

I dunno. I don't read Kagurabachi, so I wouldn't be able to tell or seethe about it. I did watch the Demon Slayer movie, though. And as a movie... it sucked. The animation looks nice, but nice animation and hype fights isn't enough in filmmaking. This isn't even me speaking out of hate, this movie is just a structural mess from start to finish.

It picks up directly after Season 4, mid-conflict, with minimal re-establishment for newcomers. It feels like some stitched-together episodes or this long binge session rather than a proper film with a clear beginning, middle and end. Mugen Train wasn't very good either but for different reasons and it still worked much better as a somewhat standalone story; this doesn't. It's also full of flashbacks. I heard people meme about it, but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but it's literally overloaded with flashbacks. They repeatedly interrupt the action at critical moments, killing momentum and pacing for anyone not already invested. It feels like emotional shorthand instead of earned growth in the moment

And the movie is mostly just actiob scenes. The writing and character development lean on prior investment. For casual viewers or those who find the core story mediocre, it can feel like a highlight reel without enough substance, humor, or fresh stakes to carry the runtime. If you're a fan, you're in for a treat. But to a casual viewer, they'd get bored very fast if the story doesn't have much going to it and if the writing is weak character-wise. I'm sorry, but I get really, REALLY irritated when the characters have to spell out their thoughts, their feelings, what they do and the thesis of the story instead of leaving it up to the viewer to interpret. It wears its themes too much on its sleeves and this movie has little faith in the audience's intelligence. I know this is a kids show, but it's not really a good excuse when HxH exists and it's catered to the same demographic.

I also just so happened to have watched this "movie" and I didn't like it. As a movie, it sucked and showed no respect for the movie format which it clearly exploited to get more money from the superfans. This isn't even a movie, becaise it treats the theatrical audience the same way a weekly episode treats the TV audience; "you already know who these people are and why this matters." This works for the core fandom and for a trilogy that is essentially one long adaptation of the manga’s climax stretched across three films. It does *not* work as a self-contained piece of cinema for anyone who isn't already invested. If this movie succeeded, then it's not because the movie itself was a good cinematic experience or it's a critical darling. It simply succeeded out of brand recognition and sheer inertia.

This is a common anime movie trap when studios adapt ongoing arcs instead of self-contained stories. Mugen Train got away with it more easily because it was a relatively contained side story with a clearly defined beginning, middle, and emotional payoff. Infinity Castle is the opposite. It's the start of the endgame and the film is structured like episodes 1-3 of the final season, but with a bigger budget. That is a legit screenwriting failure if the goal is a movie rather than the next three chapters on a giant screen.

Opposite effect on me. Because the flashbacks were really detrimental and ruined the overall experience of an already subpar movie carried entirely by the animation. In a way, this movie is like the anime equivalent of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie that was also just 98 minutes of flashy visual key jingling rather than a cohesive, well-paced narrative.

Demon Slayer has always leaned hard on flashbacks to make up for its lack of character development, especially the Upper Rank demons and Hashira. On TV, spaced out over weeks, those sequences can hit hard because the audience has time to sit with these characters between episodes. In a 155-minute theatrical sit, they start to feel like the film is pausing the actual plot to remind you WHY you should care. If you already have the emotional attachment from the series, they land. If you don't, they feel like stalling dressed up as pathos. The manga does the same thing; the movie just inherits the technique and amplifies the downtime because the action is so dense.

I again can't stress enough how this movie is mostly just action scemes. Pure spectacle has diminishing returns for a casual viewer. Once the novelty of "holy shit the animation!!" wears off, a nearly 3-hour runtime that is mostly fight > flashback > fight starts to feel long and meandering if the character work and narrative momentum aren't carrying equal weight. Fans of the series are more willing to sit through it because they already care about the outcomes and the specific matchups. A more general audience is less patient.

That's what always happens in shonen manga. Power scaling goes out of control and characters that were supposed to be strong 200000 chapters ago look weak. Akaza's compass thing hadn't even been invented back then.

Damn I was watching bluest reacts and he said something really cool, when he saw that kanae and kanao both used flower breathing, he went "I just realized shinobu probably uses insect breathing because she CAN'T use flower breathing" (she can't behead demons, she's too small and weak etc)
