Fantasy yuri is overrepresented. If it ain't just set in the real world almost all speculative fiction yuri is fantasy settings.We need more sci-fi. There was that weird ass period in the late 00s where a lot of mangaka were weirdly into Halo and Gears of War because the Xbox 360 was doing surprisingly well in Japan. Or Lyrical Nanoha giving magical girls a scifi edge on top of its two main characters being a popular yuri couple, along with military-magical girls becoming a popular genre in its own right like Symphogear, Yuuki Yuuna, Assault Lily, etc. or even shit as recent as WfM. But we never really see big scifi moments in Japanese pop culture and yuri-adjacent scifi resonate into the yuri genre at large.It don't even gotta be magical girls or mecha. Just like draw a girl in super soldier power armor and draw her a girlfriend and just see where it goes from there.Is this just one of those things where it's like fantasy is for women and scifi is for men?
