It could take place in some random fragment in the past before the events of Matsuribayashi, so Rika is still stuck in her usual script of observing and not knowing how to alter her fate. The mystery will be about multiple fragments bleeding into each other and disturbing reality. The story will be from Rena's pov and it will center around her playing a detective and going on an investigation of the weird phenomena happening in the village (think stuff like newspapers from the future showing Hinamizawa being gassed or some people not existing at all). As she digs deeper, she will begin to hide what she knows from others, to keep them safe. This will result in her accidentally spiralling into hinamizawa syndrome like Keiichi did in Onikakushi when he tried to uncover the mysteries, only to become paranoid.Rika would be the one to notice that Rena knows things she shouldn't be able to and decide to try to ground her back to reality and cooperate with her on finding out what's going on.It's not fleshed out, but I think this could serve as the basis of the fever dream atmosphere that was heavily present back in the original question arcs.

Lads you make me want to play the game. I watched DEEN 2006 and half of 2007 about 15 years ago. How spoiled am I? Is my experience of it tainted? For reference I liked muv luv a lot due to all the SoL elements that help you get to know the characters, but if I'd known about ch*mp and its arc beforehand then the experience would've probably been half of what it was unspoiled.

I am not talking about the time looping mess where Satoko shows little remorse for killing her friends, but instead her keeping down others in the present.Satoko would then suffer a complete breakdown and irrationally try to self-destruct to no longer be a burden to others. The resolution would be about the club realizing that they have moved on too fast and left behind the most vulnerable one. Choosing to not judge and instead work through things together as a tightly-knit group of friends is what the main theme of Higurashi is even about.
