All three main characters are the same type of "nice person" and there's nothing interesting about any three combination of them romantically except maybe Kogahara and Lemon because of the shock factor that a yuri direction would be. It feels emblematic of the problem with modern stories playing it too "safe". Every potential plot hole or questionable motive must be pointed out and explained, no character is allowed to be mean unless they're clearly a villain or redeemed in the very next chapter, and anything potentially problematic must be addressed or denied by the charcater practically turning to the camera and saying it straight to the audience.

It's nice that he didn't act on his lingering feelings of "what if" either like most romcoms would've and instead moved forward with the girl he was growing fond of before he got roped into being Lemon's forceful second chance.
