At the end of the day, Mizuka was actually pretty lucky. He's probably a shitty father for "selling" her to a circus, but I think there's going to be something of a twist where it's revealed he does actually care about mizuka but is just mega autistic (like her) and doesn't know how to connect with her properly so he gave her to a circus of girls her age so she could have friends. It didn't look like she had anyone her age in her flashbacks, so he might have been actually trying to look out for her future by sending her away so she could grow as a person. If she was truly a circus prodigy, she would never be able to grow up in his shadow as the black lotus and especially would not have been able to if she maintained her strong hatred of the circus which he definitely caused through her excessive training. On backstories and episode dramas>twinsMost dramatic and heartbreaking. Thinking of these two being separated is brutal. The show, which is usually full of vibrance and color, beings stripped of all that and being told in black and white as they ran away was unironically some of the best visual direction I've seen in years. It expertly got across their desperation. Them happening across the sunflower troupe makes you believe in fate. Their episode drama is believable and relateable, too. Akane not wanting to be replaced, Aoi not wanting to be left behind or to hold back her sister from her potential (a dynamic she saw shizuku grapple with recently, mind you) were two motives that were totally empathetic to anyone watching. Watching their fight was hard, but watching Akane immediately regret her actions upon finding out the truth and storm off again to try and go home was super heartwarming. As was the actual reunion. They weren't apart for too long, but it was still well earned. Excellently written backstory and drama 8/10>imariWeakest of the bunch. What is believeable is the events that happened. When she was in a very vulnerable position and she lashed out at her Isuzu, it makes sense for a kid to do something like that. What doesn't make sense is how long they held onto those feeling and regrets. I can understand if they're in their own worlds and don't find chances to reconcile despite both wanting to, and I can even understand if they're only working together but are both too afraid to step forward. BUT they gave a whole set of other people there, galf of which are adults that care about them, and I definitely feel like they would have been made to reconcile much much earlier, way before Mizuka joined the troupe. Unless you expect me to believe Maria, Rin, Shizuku, and Svietlana are all equally as emotionally immature. I just don't really buy that. In the episode proper where they do reconcile, it works well enough with Isuzu acting as Imari' ssupport. 5/10

He dream is central to the plot. Her backstory is really really simple. She wanted to join the circus to make her mom smile. What she gets that most others in the troupe don't get is a proper achieveable goal. She can be great at the flying trapeze. But what's important, which she doesn't yet realize, is the reason she wanted to be great was because she wanted her mom to be happy. Family is what is truly important to her, and her temptation to leave the sunflower troupe in order to "reach greater heights" would have been in vain. She may have shined brighter with them, but the truth is that her mom is already smiling because she has a family in the sunflower troupe. Her realizing this is going to be when she truly flies. Tying her story to another younger girl who is directly following

Man, the writing in this show is pretty weak. Like the third episode where they were supposed to have a show off with the other circus, and you'd think we'll see both of them perform and the other circus would be more successful but then our circus would do the one crazy thing that will slowly attract the audience by word of mouth. Instead they do their acrobatics routine once, which is nothing special, and that apparently completely and utterly BTFOs the other circus somehow to the point of newspapers writing about it, all offscreen mind you. The show is held together by yuri bait, fanservice and the autistic MC.
