Like Misato apologizes and admits she couldn't be Shinji's mom, and she's a whore.

Shinji and Auska are the prime examples of this. They are NOT screwing. It took so much effort to talk Shinji into letting her kiss him. Auska wants a man to go to pound town on her bad, and Kaji isn't goign for it. She has the hots fo Shinji but he's so awkward he keeps his distance. They need those moments in instrumentality where they are bearing their frustrations at each other with no barriers - resulting in the final scene with them outright nude. Nothing stopping them.
Asuka's a diva who goes into a mopey spiral because she lost, and Shinji abandons everyone like what, 5 times in the series?Meanwhile? Reliable Rei just keeps on truckin'. The most consumate professional in the series.
