It’s inconceivable that there’s almost no likable characters in this manga/anime. Why is this the case? It’s from the creator of Fullmetal Alchemist, where the vast majority of characters there ARE likable.
FMA was lightning in a bottle. At the end of the day, even the most prestigious mangaka tend to have only one good work, such as Toriyama and Dragon Ball (back when he ended it, before he went senile)
>>289829802I like Hana!
>>289829957she screams “early arc character who will be more and more irrelevant, almost nonexistent, the longer the manga goes on”
>>289829934Toriyama made Dr. Slump too though
>>289829994She already defeated the main character effortlessly in a fight and got rich overnight by adopting a nigerian son. She won.
>>289830020no one cares about dr slump, not even Japanese kids, not even the late Gen X / xillenial jap children who read or watched it back when it was new.>>289830064she won being a launchpad who got more screentime in the intro than in the actual manga/anime
>>289829934Sure but Arakawa has done other stuff that was better than this.
>>289830178FMA felt like she was thinking outside of the box for almost everything, and the manga was set in a fictional WW2-era analogue european setting instead of… modern day japan… yuck. Yomi no Tsugai feels bland and restrictive, she doesn’t even have the same spine to push the plot similar to how she had in FMA.
>>289830269Silver Spoon was solid and Arslan has been decent though she's working off someone else's writing with that. Does Anybody remember Hero Tales?
where the fuck are the English fan translations of the manga
>>289829802it's by arakawa? fug, might give it a read, bump.
>>289831648if you figure out where to read it, lemme know
>>289829934>>289830312Silver Spoon is better than FMA but Arakawa's true magnum opus is Hyakushou Kizoku
>>289831887you can read it With your eyes, Bert
>>289829802>there’s almost no likable characters in this manga/animeI wouldn’t go that far, their morals are just lacking (because most are essentially yakuza, cultists, etc.) which I think is the intent. This is a very slow series though, I can see why it might not be people’s jam. >>289831929I disagree, Silver Spoon isn’t bad but it’s forgettable desu.
>>289832828I don’t have a problem with characters being morally bad or grey, my problem lies with the fact there are next to no stakes. The Akio traitor reveal was such a nothingburger.
>>289832828Silver Spoon is one of her best because it was something she knew the most about
>>289832828>I disagree, Silver Spoon isn’t bad but it’s forgettable desu.Silver Spoon is her most memorable work and the one with most heart and humanity. It's a slice of life and coming of age story in its perfect form, and Hachiken is one of the best male MCs and certainly the best MC Arakawa has written.
>>289829802Anyone remember Platinum End? Yeah, this happens almost every time.
>>289833255People still remember Bakuman
>>289833057>>289833214Eh sorry, it was forgettable to me. Out of the manga she’s created, it’s the least brought up (not counting yomi since it’s new). Maybe it’s also because the topic doesn’t interest me as much.
>>289833039Huh? Are you OP? Either way, it feels like a slow build up to the main threat (nishino) and the twins finally breaking off to find their parents, but first rescuing their grandma, but I get what you mean too.
>>289833396and where can I read the manga in English? all I can find is vietnamese.
>>289833677nvm, found it. duckduckgo sucks ass.
>>289833717Oh, I was gonna say mangatown has up to 54 (55 is the latest, I read that through the official app though)
>>289830128>no one cares about dr slumpSame for dragon ball anon
>>289830447I think it has to do with a severe lack of planning. The story is pretty stagnant and characters wait for something to happen to them instead of moving the plot forward with their goals (they sit around being "protected" until a big bad comes to kidnap them, ad infinitum)
>>289834958if you are totally deranged imbecile, maybe.
