How many of you are oldfags, like mid 30s or older? I'm that age and I was wondering if there's anyone who honestly still watches and gets excited for new anime? I haven't really in a long time, I mostly just keep an eye out for new releases of old shows from my youth, is that normal or am I just a bitter old man?
>>
I'm 35 and I rarely watch new shows. Not because 'old good new bad', but simply because I have watched enough anime that most new shows just feel like the same old shit to me.
>>
I'm in my forties. I watch a handful of things every season. I wouldn't say I get excited about it (or much of anything for that matter), but what the fuck is there to get excited about in the first place these days, you know?
>>
You faggots never liked anime in the first place.

35.

I haven't followed seasons with /a/ since about 2016, some years I've watched no anime at all and others I might just watch one or two things on a whim. Likewise I might watch something old that I've never see, or re-watch a favourite. I am sort of getting the feeling I'd like to watch more anime again, which probably means I'm feeling increasingly lonley as I age foreveralone.

I read manga daily and follow nearly 200(much of which doesn't get any regular scanlation or gets dropped and picked up again a year or two later), with a rough and unsorted backlog about twice that size.
>>
>>289830175
I'm in my early 40s, and it really depends on the season. DESU, I would be more psyched if I had more time to watch stuff, so far I've only kept up with Dara-san this season.
>>
42 here. Battle shonen has fallen completely off the radar (OPM S2 was the last straw). I pick up a few shows every season, but the stereotype was true - romantic comedy and SoL are most of what I end up sticking with. I'm following Carameliser and Yani Neko right now. I'll binge TGitS later - grew up with SAC, but the manga was one of the first Japanese media I really dug for, and felt a sense of accomplishment when I found it. I'm excited for Dungeon Meshi S2 next year. Kui is a real one, and I about shit a brick when I heard Yasunori Mitsuda was doing the series soundtrack.

Early 40s. I follow along with /a/ to see what's going on but haven't picked up a new series in a long time. I do sometimes read a manga that anon's talking about. Not like I'm against watching anime now, but nothing has really grabbed me in a long time. Actually a good chance I'll watch the new GITS series since it's pretty unique.

To be honest, the board I have the most to do on these days is /lit/, because I do way more reading of books at this point than watching of anime, watching of cartoons, reading of comics, or playing of video games.

I come to /a/ to talk about great old anime, and because I love the posting style of this board maybe most of all. The last seasonal anime I really followed was G-Witch, and the second season of that was so lame I dropped it before finishing it. I'm trying to follow this season's Ghost In The Shell remake but I'm already behind on it.

For whatever reason I just read books much more easily these days than I do consume most other media. Except maybe listening to music.

39, by the way.
>>
I'm 33 is that old enough? I don't really like video games anymore. I still like anime. Actually able to enjoy anime more than ever as I am financially ok. When I was in school, there was always a lot of pressure and I couldn't really watch as much as I wanted.
>>
>>289830175
im 40 and i spent more than 10 years not watching anime after watching it in my teens.
last anime i watched before i quit was FMA. not the remake, the og. i got back into anime with MahoAko and Mushoku Tensei.
maybe you could take a break anon. i recommend at least a decade tho.
>>
>>289830175
I'm close to 40 and I still look forward to and enjoy anime. My problem isn't my age but the fact that I'm stuck in the wage cage. I have far less time for watching (or doing) what I'd like than I used to. There is this sense that life just sucks overall and I'm powerless to do anything about it. But at least anime is one of the things that soothes my soul a bit. If only I had invested in bitcoin when I had the chance. Better luck next life I guess.

I'm a year younger and I kinda feel this, at least about anime. Most stuff doesn't stick with me like stuff that I watched when I was younger...like Rozen Maiden, which lives rent free in my head(pic very related). Somehow I get really into new hobbies though; I'm getting into Gunpla adjacent model kits(not a big fan of Gundam designs outside a few specific mechs).

I understand and even respect that I'm not the target audience for a lot of things anymore, but when I see all my old internet holes shift focus away from the people who made it I can't help but feel a combination of annoyance, frustration and loneliness. I don't demand the entire internet cater to me, but I'd like to have at least my own corner that's not loaded with smug dullards who think they're hardcore for watching anime made in the last decade.
>>
I'm in my 30s and still like the occasional new thing. I also still play the occasional new video game. My strategy for media though is to wait 10 years to see what people still talk about and only consume that. FOMO filter.

40 here. I still enjoy it, but there are two things that are important.

Sturgeon's Law is real, 99% of everything that is made is shit, especially now when anime productions seem to target quantity over quality. You don't have to watch everything. If you find only 2-3 shows a season that you enjoy or look forward to, that's still good.

I avoid mainstream discussion. The generic anime places on the net are just echo-chambers of a social-media led hype-machine, where the only discussion is being excited for the NEXT BIG THING, enjoying the CURRENT BIG THING, and hating the current SHIT THING, etc.
I watch everything one year later. The BR release torrents came out, so I get the best version, and I can enjoy and evaluate things in relative silence.

Not having anybody to talk to sucks to. The only reason I'm on still 4chan is getting good recs and occasional funny threads from /a/, and I'm sure as hell not touching any other boards.

How do you discuss anything on social media? It's not in a form suited for it as far as I can tell (form, imageboard etc).

>How many of you are oldfags, like mid 30s or older?
I'm in my 40s.

>I'm that age and I was wondering if there's anyone who honestly still watches and gets excited for new anime?
Kids and 20 year olds still get excited about the newest shonen. It's a cycle as old as time, where the most generic action content still gets the younger people interested.

There are a few who are still dedicated to exclusively anime, I'm sure, but my opinion is that anime is just a medium with its own good content and bad content.

>I haven't really in a long time, I mostly just keep an eye out for new releases of old shows from my youth, is that normal or am I just a bitter old man?
There's a new The Ghost in the Shell anime, currently airing. It's more along the lines of the manga, as opposed to the more serious tone of the first two OVAs.
>>
>>289832137
What do you read? I don't know where to start with novels and fiction, I don't want 'normalfag' stuff like stories about some whore/manwhore or murders. I like reading non-fiction, of the decidedly un-pulp type you're unlikely to find in typical bookstores (modern popular histories and other trash about feminism or something), but I don't know shit about good non-fiction authors.

I suspect the internet, and my access to anime and manga, will become increasingly inhospitable over the next decade and it wouldn't surprise me if I had to drop out of it due to the risks it is coming to pose. So I'm looking to books more and more.

My oldest anime are on VHS. And honestly, my interest in watching anime died with fansubbing.
We had a good sprint during the early digital age, but since then the technical side of the hobby has been stagnant if not degerating. I miss the time when fansbbers were developing new codecs and containers instead soulless megacorpos.
>>
>>289833648
>For all the posts about being mangafags, what threads do you even use on this board?
Occasional threads about manga I read, although most of what I read never ever gets threads. This is the serious discussion part of my time on /a/, everything else is just funposting or lurking. I do follow a few manga which are posted here chapter by chapter, but not more than 5 or 6.

Mostly I lurk /a/ and post in threads about anime series I'm interested in, about girls and horny shit I like, subjects I like etc. For me it's /a/ - anime & manga random. I haven't watched an anime with /a/ since Flip Flappers, even now I am watching anime again I don't really participate or even lurk the threads all that often. And any time a manga I like gets an adaption I basically have to stop going into those threads because they become full of animeonlies and socialmedia newfags &/or normalfags.

>I'm that age and I was wondering if there's anyone who honestly still watches and gets excited for new anime?

Another 35 year old Anon (it's funny how many of us must have been born in 1991?), I've got two media consumption habits at the moment:
-Skim through the seasonal list and marathon whatever looks good when it's finished airing. I've been a bit lazy, but I recently saw Witch Hat Atelier, am currently working on Ganglion, will pick up season 2 of Trigun next, and looking forward to Chainsmoker Cat and that new Ghost in the Shell.
-Every once in a while I'll torrent something I haven't seen from the 80's and 90's.

The secret to having anime to "look forward to" is to keep an eye on the studios you actually like and just chill out.
It's been decades and I still keep an eye on Studio Ghibli, Studio 4°C, Science Saru, and Trigger. There's a lot being made these days, infinitely moreso than when we were kids, and we basically get access to it instantaneously, but I think it still pays to treat it like old stuff: sort through the garbage, binge whatever's been peer tested, repeat.
>>
36. I don’t watch it like I use too but I’ll try to catch something if it interesting enough. I mostly just keep up with manga like I always have. I just don’t have the interest with anime and I find the newer stuff kind of whatever. Not because “old good new bad”(the new stuff is good) but I think I’ve seen too much of the same thing. Also I just want to do other stuff with my time than sit down and watch anime. Last anime I’ve sat down and watch was gundam 0083 cause I’d told myself I go through the series years back and have been taking my sweet time with it. Old me would’ve finished the whole series in a year. I also just tend to watch older anime I’ve grew up with in general. I miss the feel and the style of back then. I also don’t care too much for the modern discussion of anime nowadays. Everything is tied to social media and discourse farming, this place is full of bots and is dying but I come back every so often to just read what people are thinking. If I had to say what modern anime peaks my interest it’s mushoku tensei and re zero but I don’t keep up with it when it’s coming out (I’m like 2 seasons behind on re zero)

>>
>>289830175
33, I am in a period of enjoying anime right now, but my late 20s I was super burnt out. I don't have the same kind of enjoyment that I used to have though. I just slowly watch shows of whatever catches my fancy. I don't pay a lot of attention to the currently airing shows, but I also don't really rewatch a lot of the stuff I've already seen either. I really get a lot of enjoyment out of early 2000s anime, partially because that was when I grew up, partially because that period also feels so innovative with its original anime. When I look back, I think it was all the isekai anime in the 2010s that really killed my interest and things were never quite the same.

I just wonder. Did most of the Japanimation guys of the 90s and maybe even 80s get filtered out of the medium by the 2000s? As in, most of them topped out at 50-100 anime at best, but at like they are hardcore OGs?
>>
>>289830175

>>
>>289837773
This is incredible to me considering how much mecha there used to be compared to now. The idea of giant robots being cool kind of faded out by the end of the 2000s
>>
>>289838467
How? I never got that. Even Gurren Lagann and Code Geass had their run in the late 2000s.
>>
>>289838467
I hope it's coming back.
For some reason Gunpla is exploding in popularity. Probably because it's still affordable compared to hobbies in a similar niche.
I also want more space shows, maybe even some retro futuristic stuff. We get so few now. I'm dead tired of medieval isekai. Or even medieval settings in general.
Gnosia was a recent scifi one I got really into.
>>
>>289838492
That was basically the last hurrah. I can't think of anything equally big from the 2010s and the decades before that had cultural icons like Mazinger, Gundam, Macross, Evangelion among a host of lesser-known titles. And the west had Transformers.
>>
>>289838661
>And the west had Transformers.
Do they really count as mecha if they don't have pilots?
>>
39 here. I think. I stopped counting at some point.

I completely fell out with modern anime. Once in a while one will catch my attention, but I've learned if an anime is worth watching, it'll still be worth watching in 5-10 years. I've mostly been going through old 00s stuff I didn't see back in the day. Lotta crap, but every once in a while I'll find something REALLY good buried in it.
>>
>>289838591
I wonder how long the gunpla trend will last. Social media breathed new life into it and made it more visible and it's something you can do by yourself in your own home.
I do kind of hope scifi comes back, but I buy into the thesis that we view future technology much more pessimistically now. I also doubt mecha will be part of a new wave of scifi now that actual real robots and autonomous/unmanned weapons are in the public consciousness. A new scifi war drama would probably be all about AIs and drones.
>>
>>289838734
Technically no but they share the same appeal. Cool big robots with guns.

We've had a couple of those already. Like that Towa no Yuugure show last year. The problem is the shows will definitely glaze AI 5 ways to sunday the way Japan is reacting to AI.

Early 50s. Been watching since mid-90s in college.
Still watch seasonal slop and the occasional "classic", but more like background noise rather than being invested in it.
I find the key is having a short memory along with viewing it as nothing more than the consumable item it ultimately is.
Still haven't learned one coherent sentence of Japanese.

I'm 34 and I watch more new anime than I did when I was younger. Still not someone that watches dozens of ongoing anime at a time though. I'm currently loving Sayonara Lara and looking forward to the new GuP and Madoka movies. I'm also reading a lot of ongoing manga, and learning Japanese the last few years means I can read even more.

I agree with this. Thankfully I don't need /a/ to find manga to read. Occasionally there is a thread about something I'm reading (or a thread for the anime adaptation) but otherwise it is a ghost town. I don't only read manga though so even if those don't exist I can still post in anime threads or threads just about anime/manga in general that aren't focused on a specific series. I don't like storytimes.

I'm still as excited about anime today as I was when I first really got into anime in 2004 with Ghost in the Shell: SAC, back when I watched it on Animax in Southeast Asia as a highschooler.
Prior to that, I watched shows like Doraemon and Dragon Ball as a kid on TV, but I never really knew that they were called "anime". I just viewed all cartoons, whether anime or stuff that appeared on Cartoon Network like Ed, Edd and Eddy, as "cartoons".
But even back then, I understood that GITS:SAC was special. I quickly found out that when I watched other Animax shows. For every dozen or so turds or mediocrities, there was only one GITS:SAC level of quality.
So I'm no idealist. But I'm not a jaded cunt either. I'm not one of those dudes in their late 30s who goes "OLD GOOD NEW BAD" when talking about these things, whether in anime, videogames or whatever (twats who go "YO DOOOD THE 2000s WAS SOOOO MUCH BETTER FOR ANIME" can't even remember 99 percent of the over 2,000 titles that came out that decade).
So many of my favorite works of any medium have only come out in the past decade.
As far as the latest anime I've been excited about, I've got a lot that I've really enjoyed. I really like the Uma Musume anime shows, particularly Cinderella Gray (which was my favorite anime of 2025, and the manga as a whole is one of my favorite sports manga). I enjoy watching romcoms/romances, and I feel stuff like Boku no Kokoro no Yabai and Horimiya completely BTFO the romcoms of much of the past 2 decades, especially the Mari Okadaslop that was so prevalent in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s.
Golden Kamuy is probably one of the best manga made, like ever. I'll never stop singing its praises.
>>

I'm 35 and I get excited for new anime every season, I also follow some IPs like Precure since almost 2 decades ago as well, this season alone I'm watching like 16 shows, I can watch this many shows because I watch anime with my friends and with my wife as well since she also likes anime, pic related is our AOTS.
You're just bitter anon.
>>
>>289836465
This show sucks lol
>>
>>289840932
These bitter anons love to talk about that kind of stuff, but they never talk about how certain older titles either aged poorly or don't quite live up to expectations.
I read Rurouni Kenshin for the very first time earlier this year. This manga was an example of the latter.
The first half featuring Shishio Makoto as the villain was good (it had problems, but overall it was good).
The second half with Yukishiro "MUH SISTER MUH SISTER MUH SISTER" Enishi was trash though. You know it's bad when it had to resort to a death fakeout with Kaoru.
That's not even going into how the battle panels in the manga were absolutely indecipherable. I couldn't tell like 80 percent of the time what was supposed to be happening.
Meanwhile, One Punch Man may have trash storytelling thanks to Murata being a hack writer, but at least the action panels are clean and beautifully drawn. You can always tell what's happening and the battle panels flow smoothly.
>>
>>289841329
Ah yeah, that's pretty common with Shonen Jump stuff, since they pioneered a lot of the common cliches you see everywhere today. Because of that, it's easy to find some developments as pretty meh because while they were impactful back then, they've been done so many times now that you can see them coming a mile away. I think Saint Seiya is one of the worst offenders of that.
>>
35 here, currently watching 18 current shows plus a lot of manga. There was a time a few years ago when I watched almost nothing, but I’m really liking some things in recent anime.
Lots of more interesting animation (just now we have Lara, MT and Clevatess doing some real fucking great emulation of old styles), and romance in general (yuri especially) developed a lot, we get series with things happening instead of the old tired fag MCs going for a kiss in the last second of the last episode.

I don’t watch a lot of shonen now, that’s the main difference. Fights are the most boring part, thanks isekai gods for focusing on elf tiddies (I’m married to a big tiddy goth btw).

And I'm all for that, romcom with 200+ chapters of nothing happening with a kiss at the end were garbage, I don't miss them at all so I'm glad MCs are finally allowed to kiss and fuck their girls thanks to editors seeing people don't get mad thanks to isekai.

34, I study languages as my main hobby (JP/ES) and watching anime in my TL has always been my preferred study method, so I haven't slowed down my consumption at all. I don't really go out of my way to watch all of the newest shows, but they are more likely to get dubbed into every major language, which is nice. I realize that's heresy, but fuck you I don't care.
I don't think I've watched too many current anime this year. I watch precure every year and somehow never get tired of it. I finally got around to watching S2 of Frieren, it was alright. I fell in love with Witch Hat Atelier so hard I'm probably going to rewatch it a few more times this year; same goes for Bocchi. Also I stumbled on a Spain dub for Toradora, actually really good, the characters mostly sound spot on.

Old shows are better in all aspects to new garbage that is explicitly made for tourists. I can put any show of the past, see panties, gore, shit flying and all type of thematic taboo happenings these new shits will never do while still having a better story, animation and drawing. Taking your bitching about Kenshi for example, the manga always had SOME problems like the original series, but back then we had the god tier OVAs which would never get made today. And the anime was a long runner with +90 episodes. Today you would have to wait a fucking decade to watch full Kenshi animated because long runners are dead.

Dragon Ball original had way better animation than Dragon Ball Super despite made by the same studio. >a lot of shows on the 80s and 90s weren't as good

There's a kind of confirmation bias or whatever you call it with old stuff. People remember the things worth remembering and forget the things that were shit. Looking at really old anime season charts is amazing. For every classic there are a dozen garbage shows almost nobody on /a/ has ever heard of.
>>
>>289843355
Hentai and softcore porn already existed back then. The difference today is that 99% of "normal shows" don't have anything objetable and they go out of their way to remove it when they can. Like that dogshit remake of urusei yatsura and the other dogshit remakes.
>>
>>289843774
No, you have them on, as this anon said >>289843835
You just remember the good anime, it's the same thing that's happening with the 00s right now, most people barely remember shitty 26 episodes romcom with an anime original ending for a manga that went over 200 chapters and ended with the main couple kissing, but a lot of people remember Princess Tutu, and to go further back, Do people remember more YYK or Dragon League? It's the same thing really and that's how things work anon, there has always been good anime and shit anime since the 60s.
Rest assured that most isekai will be forgotten in the future just like most battle harem of the late 00s and 10s that only fans of the genre enjoy.

You need to get out of your bubble and actually watch old shows by yourself and not whatever site you're using claims is a good show, try to follow a director or stick to a genre, I'm sure you will stop being a newfag eventually and you will look back at how ignorant you sound right now, I wish you the best.

>people used to make threads saying 28 is still young and it gets better and 30s
Couple things: First it really is easier to do life stuff in your late 20s-30s since peoples' lives aren't in a constant state of flux with new schools, new jobs, moving out, etc and there's less focus on what you're doing all the time. Second thing is, you can't fall into the trap of expecting things to "happen" to you. A wife and career don't just appear in your life when you turn 30. The point of saying 28 is still young is that you're not out of time to change. Like you can absolutely leave the basement, start dating, etc in your 30s and 40s and still have the life you want, but you yourself have to put the effort in to make it happen.

I didn't start trying to really live life until I was almost 30. My 30s were great once I figured out social skills and shit. My 40s _could_ be like that, all things being equal, but I've had more minor health problems. That's where the memes are partially true. Not that it does happen to everyone, but you're gonna have more problems with your body after 40 than before. If you're still in your 20s and 30s I'd suggest getting to it before you're waking up with pains in strange places and have a warm relationship with your doctor.

The normalfaggot opinion is that every piece of anime media made before 2020 was le hecking problematic because it was le sexualizing school girls and school boys. This is in 0 contradiction with anime dying because these people don't watch anime. They only came here because of the pandemic. Old anime was not more kawai than modern anime, maybe only more real and that's debatable because it was way more over the top. If my memory is not fucked up moe was born like a derogatory term for certain type of anime that appeared around the 90s/00s for specific character designs that looked the japanese saw has trying too hard to look cute, but otaku appropriated the term to call elements and anime they actually liked and for the time stuff like Clannad was around it was consolidated. Meaning that people didn't used to look like normal to have moeblobs all over the anime they were watching back then. But these types being hypocrites with this is a given, no human can't endure for a long time watching actual soulless dogshit. 40 year old anon.
Ten years ago I made a decision to not pick up any new series, no matter how interesting or popular they might be, all in an attempt to read and watch less. After a few years of this, I realized I didn't need to keep up with the latest things, and if I missed out on something I would have liked, I'm not worse off for it. I don't need to read manga or watch anime for its own sake.

The only reason I still come here is for the few series I'm still reading (One Piece being one of them) and sometimes discuss older series.
>>
>>289830175
Its normal to lose interest in stuff, I'd say. Maybe it comes back when something re-ignites your interest, happened to me often enough.
I'm 35 now, been here since .. I think 05. Watching anime all my life and I still watch a few seasonal shows every season. Mind, its a lot less than it used to be. Mostly I read manga/LNs now, but to me anime/manga etc. its just standard entertainment for me.

I seriously dropped out in 2016 when the isekai trend kicked into gear and it's my absolute shame, there are so many anime i haven't watched i'm a forever noob. When i run out of 90s-00s anime i'm planning to start with Konosuba and Bocchi the Rock then see where my exploration of that past decade takes me.
Why can't i watch all of the anime? There's too many of them.

I'm 32. Watched airing shows and posted on here regularly from about 2009 to 2015. Took a big break from anime for life related reasons, got back into airing shows about year and a half ago, only been posting on here again in the past few months. The issue is there's literally nowhere worth posting about anime online. 90% of anime oriented message boards etc. are full of children or people who cannot hold a conversation beyond "yeah it was good" "I didn't like it". This place may be a cesspool but there will be a thread maybe once a week where someone is actually willing to engage with a subject which is more than I can say for anywhere else I've tried to talk anime.

Anime's in a tough place because it's been inscribed into the government's business plan regarding profitable export and that's an art killer. A private corp balances art and profit because art makes profit, a government will wring it dry like a mine, it has to deal with too many other problems to worry about long term preservation of veins.

What annoys me about dealing with younger fans is how adamant they are in trying to expand their views past CURRENT THING. And I'm not saying they absolutely have to or anything but I don't think I've ever seen a group so almost universally repulsed by the idea of going backwards and trying older stuff. In the off chance they do they'll binge watch some 50+ episode series and complain it's repetitive or they'll think they NEED to watch it to fit and try to find a way to skip around. it doesn't feel like they actually care about the hobby itself and just want to get in on a trend

It's cool that we can so easily trace the history of anime through evolution in drawing styles since it's always been such a copycat industry. It's been clockwork for 50 years.

There seems to be a psyop where these manipulators want you to dupe you into believing old isn't better the new.

You know, I've heard the argument that its "just nostalgia". Now, that may have held water when I first heard it 20 years ago, but these days? Not so much, especially when you can objectively prove with some mediums (Western video games, sci fi literature) that old is indeed better the new.

Case in point, you are clearly a foreigner, and you are deeply upset that a European is defending his interests. That, is fundamentally what really offended you, since if more Europeans think like me, you will lose power, but if Europeans debased and harmed themselves like you want them too, its your gain.

And yes, there are many thirdies on xitter that cry about le problematic anime and drawings are le real people because they can't segregate fiction and reality. Even the Japanese noticed. And they're all hypocrites too, but it never bothers them because they live in holding inconsistent beliefs.

Raw japanese creativity is in manga. It goes beyond comic books it's not even comparable.

The saddest thing is that even for as bad as this place gets, It's still better than the alternative. I've honestly tried to use reddit. I gave it a chance but it's all so vacuous and sycophantic. You're not allowed any negative opinion, even if you're civil. You can't disagree with the public opinion. And you can't say anything bad about the corpos. I do not like putting up with people who like garbage because they think it makes them the good fans. Krakoa was the worst era in x-men history.

Almost 40. I watch seasonals with my friend but otherwise I mostly watch 80-90s stuff.

34. I still watch anime, but I basically stopped following seasonals a long time ago (this is the first season in a very long time where I’m watching more than a couple). I catch up on the few shows that interest me later when I have the time. On the other hand, I read a lot more manga than I used to.
As far as genres go, my tastes haven’t changed significantly.
>>
You know, the saddest part of these threads is that there are no newer posters, so it’s always anons that know better trolling anons that know better, since they’ve both been here for over a decade at a minimum.
>>
Closer to 40 than 20
I rarely watch seasonals anymore but I excitedly keep up with my all-year-long children shows such as aipri and precure and kamen rider, I also buy the toys because I am a working man with an income. I am happy btw.

>>289830175
I never was much of a seasonal anime watcher, since I had been conditioned to wait for better subs or the BD to fix stuff. Most noticable for action heavy shows, and I also hated the screen dimming over any flashy scenes in the broadcast versions.
I pretty much quit seasonals entirely around 2017 until 2023 or so. Watching only a handful of shows per year. I actually got back into it but mainly because of a friend who roped me into it. Now I do most of my watching with other people. Especially one friend we intentionally pick the worst looking shows of each season and then just sit there making fun of the show. Watching every GoHands show out of principle you acquire a certain kind of zen. Also picking random shows because they have seiyuu or staff / singers I like. I try to give most things a try and approach them with an open mind. I just learned that I can't stand narou fantasy LNs so I avoid those.
I do think there's good shows coming out every year it's just you get as many shows in a single season nowadays as you would in an entire year in the past so it's hard to keep an overview.
My preference is still 00s anime so I mostly watch those but I do watch a few seasonals each season. There's so much anime out there that they could stop producing and I'd have enough to watch until the end of my life so I just view new anime as a bonus whether there's anything good coming out. And as I explained earlier even watching bad anime can be a fun experience depending on how you approach it

Moot was 15 in 2003. Anyone who is in their mid 30s now would be too young to be one of the disaffected SA goons who came to 4chins during its first year.

31. I watched a lot until around 2016, and then just a few shows per year. I think mid 10's to early 20's was pretty lame. Recently I think anime is picking back up and I'm pretty happy about it. Watching much more current shows recently, especially this season.

Surprised you can still watch Aipri when it's less cute girls doing cute things and more concert filler. OG Aikatsu was way better, and it seriously annoys me we'll never return to that level of idol activities
>>
>>289868968
I happen to enjoy the singing and dancing; I wouldn't watch idol animes otherwise.
>>
>>289869031
First and foremost, great you enjoy it.
I tried to stay on board, but the constant reuse of song combined with episodes being two songs minimum, sometimes three, even four got old.
Like, why are they not singing a halloween or christmas song during the holiday episode? If the anime advertises the arcade, why aren't they using more of the arcade's songs? Bah

I still almost exclusively fap to 2D
I still watch multiple shows a season (by that I mean three or so)
I'm sick of isekai and wish Japan would move on to another genre to obsess over
I think the classics are great, but we do get good shows even today if you can ignore the generic garbage they churn out constantly.
>>

This series should’ve just been a movie. It turns into a generic adventure series with no aim beyond repeating the same lessons after the first few episodes.

I like to look at these franchises in a broader scope. Life is long, and if I didn't like one show this year, maybe the next will be better, and in the meantime maybe the others will carry. This is expecially true for precure which can be a masterpiece one year (such as the current year) and an uninspired piece of shit the next and it constantly flipflops like that.
I wasn't a fan of AiPri S2 but I am loving Onegai a lot more. It's more focused on being its own thing rather than pripara lite with lesbians and that is refreshing.

Similar situation here. My unemployment office agent is basically telling me, that the job market is simply fucked in my country for the time being.
I keep applying, have reworked my application documents with professionals, but to no avail at this point.
You will meet those HR people at job fairs, they will tell you, you are great and that you should hand in your application files, only to suddenly ghost you then.
I have started doubting, they are even actually looking for new hires, and that it's all a great play of pretense for market observers.
Fortunately social welfare is godlike, but I have conversely started worrying about the future of my country. This can't end well.

I turn 43 this month, and haven’t watched anything new in years, outside keeping up with One Piece. I did watch Trigun Stampede, I guess, and I surprisingly enjoyed it in spite of the 3D animation. Never watched the second season though, I heard it bombed.

The only reason I’m on /a/ right now is because I watched End of Evangelion in the theater recently, which got me back into Eva mode, and I dug the NGE/EoE/Rebuild blu rays back out, and I’ve been watching those again. I just finished the last episode of NGE last night, so I guess I’ll re-rewatch EoE tonight, and then go through the Rebuilds. I only saw 3.0+1.0 once, so I don’t remember that much of it.

>>289830175
Yes, I'm older than you. I'm watching more new shows this season than I have for the last ten seasons combined. Sometimes new anime is crap. Now is not one of those times. I hope you reach an age soon where you stop caring about other people's approval of your opinions and stop yourself from having fun because you think maturity means no longer having fun. None of this is that serious.

I'm 39. It's normal to have a different tastes as you age, I think. There's probably some anime out there for you to enjoy. Finding them is the hard part.

39, been here since 2006. On and off visiting because threads usually suck.
I just rewatch stuff I like or sometimes just older shows I never watched.
I will pick up things off friend's recommendations.
I hardly have interests in current shows, but this season is some gold.

Dodge Danko, GITS, and Yanineko.are good.
Also S3 Dorohedoro eventually.
>>
>>289879746
Most seasonals are horrid in both time periods.
>>
I've also stopped watching stuff as it airs every season, and honestly it's nice people have sifted through the chaff. If something is being discussed years after it airs the odds of it being interesting go way up and I'm not in any rush. Sometimes I'll watch something if it's super culturally relevant, and I'm sure I miss some underappreciated gems but I just don't have unlimited time anymore

> I'm that age and I was wondering if there's anyone who honestly still watches and gets excited for new anime?

Chainsmoker Cat is pretty exciting. And the new The Ghost In The Shell series. But I never really went out of my way chasing the hottest anime... but if it's pretty hype I'll watch it (like Kill La Kill)
>>
>>289882985

I have noticed a lot of the OG anime fans(people who started in the 80s or very early 90s) are largely comic book fans. That's where they got anime, via comic book shops. They endlessly slurp up 1000 issues of X-men or Spiderman or Superman who will never have a conclusion or even any real tension as we all know Spiderman or Superman cannot die permanently. Issue is, these same people avoid anime after 2000s, its slop after all!

I'm 35 and chainsmoker cat is my favorite anime of the last few years. It reminds me of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in how absolute goblins instigate each other.
