The project was completely off my radar until I happened to hear about the release today, watched all three episodes and quite enjoyed them. Still a bit confused about what exactly's going on and I have difficulty keeping track of the different names but you can sense a certain je ne sais qua, the punchy liveliness of a young studio trying to make their mark.

Watched the first episode and it completely surpassed my expectations. Very well composed pictures and excellent animation. The beginning of the story got introduced nicely, the real world setting seems to be a bit less grounded which I didn't expect and don't know what to make of K7s creations and GAO being real world things. The following observations are a spoiler territory, but I think this is the episode discussion thread so whatever.The hollowning phenomena seems to be the ability(?) of Protagonist Halo going from the PVs, for now I also think it's what ultimately causes the 7 pm event. It's interesting that it both happens in the Real World and the Bureau Realm as well (with the washing machine). Also it seems what was going to happen at 7 pm happened but Guan Chao got dragged into the Bureau Realm, probably with the Time Gun as well. The way the gun got extracted(?) with red strings was similar to how in the original one-shot Guan Chao got extracted by his heart getting grabbed by chains. In the third PV I believe I saw Shi Yan (Bug man No.55) who as we know managed to have an impact on the Real World, maybe whatever is going on with the hollowing incidents is a similar case.All in all I had GREAT FUN, I will watch the rest of the episodes then sleep. Maybe there will be more threads for later episodes.

I thought the completely black figure that flies past Guan Chao in the corn fields and creates a big crater by hollowing in PV1 and disappears someone running into the corn fields (very likely young Guan Chao from a memory) also by hollowing in PV3 was him, but he doesn't have a Halo at all, it's probably some other type of entity. In PV1 it's also hollowing-like how the memories of Guan Chao are getting blacked out bit by bit with circles. The one in which he is looking down at the kid who appeared in the episode 2 memory, from the side of a mound with trees while holding his bike and the memory of the class picture as well.

What did you think of it being revealed in ep3 that Guan Chao's already used the time machine gun? My current theory: perhaps the reason the "real world" of episode 1 was set to end is that everything since then has effectively been a delusion or "bug", part of Guan Chao's memories but not the actual real world because of course unlimited energy sources and time travel don't exist. K7 somehow realized this and tossed the thing, hence it falling into Guan Chao's hands. The "hollows" could just be the world falling apart as Guan Chao's delusion falls apart. I think in one of the PVs it was noted that Guan Chao has some special power to "forget" that no one else has, that makes sense if the world we're perceiving is somehow intimately linked to Guan Chao himself and his memories.

I will be looking for any date hints in episode one for sure. As for now I agree with your interpretation, additionally I'm somewhat expecting the black figure to be an aspect or some type of materialization of Guan Chao's ability to forget. About the sequence where he uses the gun I find that the imagery of the loop of infinity breaking and the Burning Cube, a source of infinite energy seemingly getting used up after firing supports your theory as well. Episode one real world being some sort of bug is highly likely. Right after firing the gun we also see a sequence of Guan Chaos from young to older where the salaryman from which the episode 3 bug entity spawned could be the Guan Chao that is the one before the burnt out scruffy long haired version. That would mean that the future could be a memory as well, which is slightly contradictory, thus Guan Chao getting old enough to be a salaryman has to have happened at some point to become a memory. Also the last Guan Chao in the sequence from which the currently time traveling bursts out from is young, so the sequence actually goes from young to old to young again then gets abruptly broken by the Guan Chao that fired the gun for presumably the first time ever. And the hollowing starts right after when he bumps into Yi as well, an other thing to thik about.

Maybe they're localized to GC himself? Though none of this explains why GC got the super halo of someone else who clearly isn't him.Curious to see how things develop, especially as we're only getting 4 more episodes.

Whatever anyone says trying to discredit this animation for being made by chinese or being a sakuga wank fest, is mistaken. Every aspect of this project has been clearly thought out and carefully worked on, when I watch this I can without a doubt say that "Yes, now this is anime". Before autists say that it's not actually anime because it's not japanese, you are right, but I don't care it's anime in a spiritual sense.

Yi is a mistery for now, we just know that she had a countdown for the end of the world on a TV, has some sort of monitoring role with all the different TVs with news reports in her room, likes fishing and maybe it was her turning a dial that lead GC back to the dumpster to find the Time Gun.

>>289842965I watched a few donghua that I actually like so I gave watching this a lot more effort than I usually would. It's a bit underwhelming for me so far. The entire first episode felt wasted, and in the following two episodes it's frustrating how useless the protagonist is despite everyone telling him what he needs to do over and over. Music, especially the OP song is beautiful and the animation is high quality but they're too epic for scenes that don't really warrant it. I'm tired of the protagonist being completely impotent while everyone else carries him and insists that he should be strong while he does nothing. Just do it already.

>>289858882I would say yes, for now the pilot is not connected to the story of these first three episodes in a significant way. It helps with understanding the ending sequence of the first episode and sets the tone for the whole series well. It's 18 minutes only and I thought it would be good to have it fresh in my memory so that I could see what ideas are getting expanded more in the series, so I rewatched it during the final build-up and I think it doesn't ruin the experience at all. Actually it's fun to see the couple callbacks to it.

If anything it makes the first ep less confusing because you already get what the series is trying to do emotionally.It doesn't really spoil the mystery either, it just shows the format at its rawest. The TV series is clearly reworking/expanding the same ideas instead of expecting you to treat the pilot like required homework. Plus it's only like 20 minutes, not exactly a huge investment.
Episode 4 will be the introduction to wild/crazy orange haired collector who is connected to Ran Deng in some way, whose Halo or a similar one is apparently on Guan Chao now. At the end of PV4 when both of them are lying on the sand Ran Deng seems to have the lens like thing that is the second Halo in the end credits sequence.The pose that Protagonist Halo strikes on the pic rel promotional material among the hollowing spheres being very similar to the black figure who is caped as well in the PV released 1 year ago makes me rethink his relation to the hollowing, plus he is the one that says forgetting is a good thing in his PV. I'm looking forward to his episode the most.
Yeah I just watched all three episodes after years ago seeing a trailer for it. You get the jist of the type of show this is going to be after the first episode, all that remains is for the questions it posed to the watcher to have satisfying answers. The animation is stellar the sound work is alright but the music is amazing. Whenever I see peak I cry a little bit from the passion poured in by the artists in their product and this is absolute kino and soul. Looking forward to it every week since now I'm just watching Mushoku Tensen and Yani Neko

Thus it's difficult for me to understand the "qualityslop" remark, maybe I misinterpreted it as self serving animation. It's also anything but whimsical, in the sense that the visuals and what happened in the plot all have a clear purpose, for now mainly worldbuilding and setting up the mistery with clues here and there. "Funslop" and "coolslop" I could somewhat agree on, but the way I experienced it, the fact that this animation is great fun and cool is just a side to it being a really well thought out project -as it should be after 6 years of production- and not the main focus. Probably it just the different mindsets that we sat down with to watch this. I don't want to make little of your perspective in any way, but in my case I was ready to engage with the reasonable expectation in mind, that the creators made a very sincere project that they poured 6 years of work into.
