Grace doesn't care about the outcome until she sees the proof Lara is the special princess. In the first appearance its actually a small dagger and THEN it does an implied transformation. Since the prince is human he likely can't see the dagger, just that Lara turned to sea foam. So the manifestation of Lara's light appears as a giant stone fish - not a dagger. Here we see the giant fish acts on its own and like a homing missile attacks Kota. If the dagger appeared the first time it was likely intended to kill the prince. But Lara loved the prince then. So its possibly the light that exists in Lara powers her kingdom and works separate from her wishes to protect that light. Meaning it knew killing the prince would sustain the light and here stopping Kota would sustain the light. Which could point to Mari being essential to the restoration of the mermaids.
