I saw some Usogui mentions in the last few weeks on /a/ and im currently reading it myself so i thought there might be interest in a Storytime for it (as the last one was 4-5 years ago) and wanted to share it so we all can enjoy some gambling together.
Bumping will read later when there are more pages
Seeing the art get better and better will be fun. Forgot how different Usogui looked in the beginning
>>289929541Appreciate it
Oh boy again
>>289929573Yeah the later chapters are really something else compared to the start
>>289929536Crazy to think he was taking heart medication this whole time
>>289929654Haven't finished the manga myself yet so dont wont read it.last chapter i read was the bull game
>>289929616Why again?
>>289929084Don't tell the author you're doing this
If you told me the author planned everything from the beginning, I would believe you. This has some of the greatest foreshadowing in manga
Am in,stopped reading after hangman and I know I missed the best parts
>>289929827That one got me hooked to continue with it
>>289929789>>289929808You skipped a page.
>>289929888>>289929789Thanks kinda on autopilot
Gonna dump Volume 1 today to see if there is enough interest going for it as it has been some time since i did a storytime. You guys can decide if i should start doing a Volume a day or 1/2 a Volume because as i seen it volumes dump are too much for a lot of people and they like either chapters or only a few chapters a day.
>>289930056do half it will only take you 96 days to dump it all
>>289929291>>289929328jagi? undefeated.
>>289930152Sure i can do that. Im gonna decide at the end of the dump if there are other opinions on it
>>289929654Retcon
I thought the captchas dissapear after you posted a lot of replies in a thread, did they remove that feature?
Finally, some good fucking manga
>>289929084Amazing, I was hoping for someone to start one as I'm not dedicated enough to dump such a long manga without a pass. I'm ready for the ride.
>>289930426I know that feel but i had so much fun reading it i thought it would be great reading it with /a/.
>>289930447>>289930463Twas Baku the fisherman…
>>289929753Does he have melties for people pirating his content? It reminds me of a japanese dev who used to sperg out on /hgg2d/ and copyright strike/take down every single download link or compilation that contained his game, to the point the general itself + pastebin + archives were getting nuked. He even added quizzes into his games to make sure EOPs wouldn't be able to play them.
Maybe for easier decisions. If im doing the whole volume im gonna start at 7 pm gmt and if i do half a chapter probably at 8:30 pm gmt.
>>289930768I meant half a volume :P
>>289930152>>289930056Yeah, half sounds good. I'm still reeling from the Kinnikuman/Nisei/UTag dailies, a volume a day is too much for a long series.
>>289930056Lol
>>289931136
>>289929745He means thishttps://desuarchive.org/a/search/subject/Usogui%20storytime/
>>289931231Do roommates really do this? Watch porn together and queue up to go jack off in the bathroom in turns?
I know it's named 95 but i checked and it looks like no page is missing between them.
>>289931264blondie does look a bit zesty.
>>289931350
>>289931231Japs without internet were crazy
FYI if there is only one page missing it was the link to the Scanners i removed them from the end of the chapters
>>289931562ENTER>>289931658ENTERRRRRR
>>289929291Any reason you aren't using Duwangs pages?
>>289931784I looked through both of them and in my opinion this scan has easier explanations later down the road. The other one uses to much technical terms for later games which makes it harder to understand for some people But i can change them if you guys want it if one could provide me with a download to all volumes
>>289932118is the guy on drugs, how he doesnt get what's going on, it's not like they're even subtle about it.
>>289932276He’s still too green to perceive past the larp
>>289929084>Usogui storytimeBASED BASED BASEDIt's almost magical how much this guy improved after the first volume
In Frogland we're finally getting the first translated volumes this September, which is pretty cool.
>>289931866As long as you can vouch that the translation stays faithful I don't care, can't really say yet since I'm just used to Duwangs wording. They also are missing Vol 9 - 11 STILL so maybe best not to bother.
>>289932345>Too greenYou could say he got it all wrong:P
>>289930303It clearly wasn't.
>>289932390I can vouch got Jawsh and the new translation. Good lad, one of the only people I ever get to speeg with about Usogui, Bat and Genia. I'd post bunnysuit Bakuand irrelevant spoiler block just to say Marco is MY SON and you will all LOVE him and not replace him with the next afro haired muscle idiot who helps. Marco is the BEST.
>>289932390Like i wrote im not finished with the manga and only made it till the end of the bull game and after that i decided to do the storytime. But till there it was great. If you guys are unhappy with the scans say it and i'll try to change them to Duwangs (after Vol 11)
>>289932276>>289932345It's like you go from being an innocent deadbeat who's unironically scared of debt collectors to meeting up with a secret society of adrenaline junkies and literal combat addicts in the current year who get off to the thought of being chased by collectors. He's so out of his element that he unironically thinks they're just talking shit
>>289930582He hates just the fact that it was translated, proper crazy but at least he makes good manga.
>>289932484Nice
>>289929705Heh, you're in for a wild ride if the bull game was the last thing you read.>>289929654>>289930303Not quite, Baku's poor physical stats and his habits/adrenaline addiction/suicidal ideation have been a constant from the start of the story to the end. The heart medication candy he's eating can be seen as both a retcon and not a retcon at all, but given how much foreshadowing is in the entire manga between visual imagery and phrases that come back around literally 300 chapters later I can only assume that the author quickly made up his mind about the backstory
>>289930813In particular I think it's good to take time digesting Usogui
>>289930056Half, or 1 volume if you can stitch the pages into spreads like the recent Witch Hat Atelier did.
>>289932593Yes for sure i remember having to take out pen and paper to understand some games like the blood game in the tower but it was fun trying to understand them and finding out the answers yourself and being right.I still remember getting a really high high figuring out the air poker game by myself
ONE MAN
>>289932584ENTER (part 1)
>>289932566>Heh, you're in for a wild ride if the bull game was the last thing you read.I hope i thought it couldn't get better after the labyrinth game man was i wrong.
>>289932660Both of those and the final game were some galaxy-level shit for different reasons. Though, some of my favorites are the games were absolute retards participate in and it's just a battle of aura. I will not name it, but everyone knows which ones I'm talking about
>>289930544As dated as the art is, there are some crazy good faces.
>>289932740Just you wait anon, just you wait. I won't hype it up too much though
I wonder if Kaji was a Baku plant as well or if it was just coincidence they met
Looks like we can all agree that the games are top tier writing but what do you people think about the fights.I think they got better near the end but could never really stand out
>>289931785>>289931808>>289931866These three fucking pages, that's how long it took to hook me completely back in the day.
>>289930056would prefer half a day
>>289932955Significant increase in quality during the Tower of Karma
>>289932743>and it's just a battle of auraMy absolute favorite game of the manga
>>289933587clearly baku fell for the guy, this is true bl.
>>289932955Hmm. The thing is, at a certain point it's kinda>Marco passes out, screams harder, and comes in for the round 2.5but outside of that, they're pretty good. I think everyone is a little bit too superhuman to be believable unlike the games, but there's a very decent understanding of choreography and martial arts in the works. I prefer it best when the fights factor into the games themselves though>>289933269Damn right
>tfw you first read Usogui and came across the Heely's page that was always posted in OPT threads and were completely underwhelmed compared to all the other shit that goes on in the mangaI probably would've tried it sooner if that guy were posting a different page.
Ok looks like everyone wants half a volume a day. So from tomorrow on i will do 5-6 chapters a day till we're finished it depends if the end of the chapter is a good time to stop or not but i wont exceed 6 chapters (if the future volumes arent 13+ chapters what i dont think). If we keep that way we will be finished in 96 days like anon said here >>289930152Im gonna start tommorrow at 08:30 PM gmt. Thanks for reading!
>>289934240thanks op
>>289934240Thanks OP, remember not to lie or you'll get eaten.
>>289930343Have you considered getting a 4chan pass?
>>289929084Wasn't there a storytime of this manga recently?>2021-2022AAAAIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>289933882Usogui has a lot of whacky pages or cool aura pages like that, but it's really the games that are the main interest
>>289934240Thanks OP, hope to be along for the entire ride.
>>289929157feet
>>289935039Yeah, the main reason I started was I learned of the underwater death poker match. I didn't even know Usogui was about games until then.
>>289935147Yeah, that one was the one that drew me in. Very good, though not as much my favorite after reading the whole story. Battleship and Tower of Karma go so hard between all the setup and the follow-through that it's hard for Air Poker to compete
>>289929084Tried to read along with the last storytime of this and failed, maybe I'll have more luck now
>>289929571>lottery's 54%What? Is he including the garbage consolation prize?>gambling in Japan is absolutely illegalBullshit, they openly bet on horse racing over there.
>>289936205Read the previous page, the house takes a 54% cut on your winnings. No idea if that's true.
this manga is mid 20s white virgin male core
>>289929705Oh hey I think that's where I stopped too
>>289930361>you've got it wrongFollowing that Kengan storytime until Omega is one of the worst decision I've ever made.
>>289936205They included horse racing and the lottery (and by extension Pachinkos) as an exception to that. The idea is that the gambling games that take place in a casino are illegal, I'm not exactly sure if that's true but I'm not an 11.>>289936284How so? I'm curious
>>289930582>spoilerKek, didn't know there was something like that. I like going there sometimes.
>>289936205Betting on horses is a game of skill.
>>289936416>Following "that" Kengan storyline until Omega is one of the worst "decisions" I've ever madeKengan was so good, it makes me question what the hell happened
>>289931110This should be useful for shitposting.
>>289933388>>289933410I thought there were no rules to this game...
>>289934240Thanks op
>>289936814The only rule in a Kakerou game that's strict is no outside interference, everything else is game specific
>>289936416I swear the Omega storytime did irreparable damage to this board, the dumps are always at the top on 4stats.
>>289936492the photorealistic art style. it's the kind of thing you'd put in a tiktok phonk edit
>>289937163This actually makes sense, thank you. I'm not sure I agree with it, but I can see what you mean
>>289931658Is he known for his strict refereeing?

>>289931658ENTER THE shit coffee maker
>>289931785>>289931808>>289931866K-Kenganbros, Sandro TRACED this?
>>289938075Yakou? Sorta... he's kind of more about the collecting than the refereeing. Strict though? Not so much, like a lot of referees it depends on how much they like the gamblers. It helps that Usogui purposely manufactures ways to get Yakou A to referee his gambles with terrible people so that Yakou subconsciously roots for Usogui and subtly helps him out. Yakou is aware of this, but has too much fun to care.
>>289932509Kek, look at him in that top panel. Ridiculous.
>>289935197>BattleshipThis one always left a sour taste in my mouth because of the bit where the leader realises yer one is a girl. I liked seeing him as an alien untouchable figure that has literally and not figuratively never been wrongI suppose it's the perils of weekly manga but I would have liked the sum of the story more if they hadn't slightly blemished him with that throwaway line
>>289932420What the fuck? How tall is the building? Kaji is actually impressive.
>>289932828I believe it's coincidence
>>289938812Anon, you're replying to a Kengan meme line
>>289933090Get fucked.
>>289938921>spoiler He has to have more obvious imperfections because otherwise Usogui beating him seems more contrived and Hal's obsessive perfectionism and drive to win wouldn't make as much sense It's an unfortunate aspect of the writing and the circumstances being what they are, yeah, but ultimately it's necessary to humanize the leader
>>289929119Radioactive ferret????
>>289938978I supposed I have been fooled by "that"
>>289934240Thanks. First timer here, this seems like a good time to read this manga.

>>289939043It's fine if he makes elaborate and slight mistakes, or misses some prep work / dark clouds in the distance, but the gender thing felt so pettyThe fact that it's not part of him losing or the plot makes it seem like such a betrayal of the characterIt doesn't ruin the story overall, but it feels so wasteful. A dancer stepping on their partners toe. Not lethal but rhythm breaking
>>289932979amazing proportions on display here
>>289933882I watched the Live Action a few years back, I didn't even know it was an adaptation of a manga. This volume's 'escape the building' game was done in a forest in the live action. Guess they couldn't afford to shoot in a building or something.
>>289939549Yeah that's fair enough
>>289939424
>>289929084I tried umeboshi once, imitating this nigga and took a big bite just like that. It's sour as fuck. Apparently, you're supposed to eat it by taking small bites and eat it with some rice or other stuff.
>>289940039Kaiji when Baku loans him 20$
>>289931562>>289931658My referee, you can even see the art getting better on this chapter
This is one of my top 3 favourite mangos of all time. I wish this was animated.
>>289931658holy shit it's been a while i forgot how different he looked in the beginning
>>289941859Liar game got an animationIt's possible
>>289941859It's too long and the beginning is too rough to do a full adaptation. I could go for like, a Tower of Karma or Air Poker movie-length OVA though, just for the fans.
>>289929084Dude yes! I was thinking of starting one myself.
>>289932550Really? Cause his latest manga has an official translation.
>>289941859Which are the others 2?
>>289935141
>>289932494I would appreciate Duwang's scans personally. They are very detailed and faithful, and even update wordings in old chapters if a future chapter makes it clearer what the wording was supposed to be.Also as far as I know they're the only scans that cover the final arcs?
>>289929949
>>289932494Use Duwang since they do the whole series and have the most faithful translation.
The whole "He ate me!" thing is kinda gay.
>>289945381Was gonna post this. These kinds of charts are also a reason I like the Duwang scans, the full series is on nyaa dot si (with EG scans for the few missing volumes).
>>289942115>>289943160I think the most modern piece of animation we have of Usogui is from this pachinko or whatever:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcUmnOJRGOMI remember seeing an OVA too in the past but this has way better quality.
OP genuinely, I would love a toshio-thon through batuque and genikasuri if possible.
>>289930056For the games maybe something like x amount of rounds per day could work, like round 1-3 day one and round 4-5 the next. Totally understand if it's easier to just do 1/2 volume a day tho.
>>289929967It's like the One Piece meme but real.
>>289930343I'll pay for your 4chan pass if you have PayPal, I'm very happy you're storytiming Usogui.
>>289939315>>289930381
>>289947875My reaction when most manga/anime characters these days are way younger than me
So, was meeting and recruiting Kaji, the only unplanned part of Baku's grand scheme?

Hell yeah a storytime where the story actually gets better over time lfg. So many hype moments to comeCant wait for /ourguy/ to enter
>>289932593True.>>289932743>>289933269Unless it's Battleship or Weapon vs Shield idk which game you're referring too.
>>289932828Just like Kaji himself, Luck. This game was definitely a setup to get Marco, aka Strength.
>>289932955Generally tactical and good. The Leo + Marco vs Kyara fight in the Hangman arc is actually one of my favorites.
>>289932743The low level fights are hilarious. The guys participating look like straight up retards to the heavyweights but theyd wipe the floor with 99% of real life humans
>>289934240Thank you so much OP I love this manga.
>>289934240Based OP
>>289948246I like to think so.
>>289934240Thank you for posting!
>>289929084I've always meant to read this but don't keep up after the first couple of chapters. Guess I'm following an /a/ storytime for once.
>>289951751Welcome on-board, anon.
>>289934240Thanks. Looking forward to the Tower of Karma arc because that filtered me to hell and back
>>289954662I'm amazed to hear people were filtered that far in.
>>289932955I always felt like I knew the outcome beforehand, because it's that sort of shonen stuff where all damage can be shrugged off and whatever the plot needs to happen happensThat sort of made it boring but also made it connect to the gambling because I could predict itThe only time I couldn't guess who would die was in the kaiser game and They both die
>>289954788It's mostly because I'm speed reading/not taking notes. The game itself was fine, but everything else was a bit too overwhelming. In fact, I just finished that arc a few days ago (first time reading), currently on the battleship arc.
>>289955112Try to use spoilers more liberally as even the OP hasn't read beyond the bull
>>289929084>new usogui storytime>wasn't there an usogui storytime like a year or two ago?>check archives>it's been 5 years.Where does the time go.
>>289929573labyrinth arc art kinda suck tho
>>289932955I think the choreography is pretty mediocre and hard carried by the context around the games, but I do love how visceral they are.The judges clashing their broken fists to the point their hands were completely unrecognizable during the tower game was absolutely retarded but cool as fuck
>>289932955I like most of the fights, the gamblers have superhuman intelligence so it makes sense that the fighters have superhuman strength. My favorites are the car fight, Marco in the labyrinth and Kyara vs the Korean.
>>289956682Starting volume 2
>>289934240Good luck I know the last one died but I fucking love this series. Third read for me, and I still get hyped for ENTER
>>289929084I dropped this shit with the I hacked the cameras with my robot eyesDoes it get better? everytime I ask this I get told that "yeah the art gets better"I do not give a shit about the art. I'll read chickescratch drawing if the games are good and satisfying. So tell me, does it get better?
>>289958336yeah the art gets betterstory remains the same 10/10 that is has been from start to finish, but you haven't actually read it.
>>289958336It's my opinion that both the art, writing and overall story quality escalate arc after arc. By the time I got to the Tower of Karma I thought it was great, by the time I got to the Jalloud I thought it was incredible, and by the time I got to Protoporos it had reached my top 3 manga of all time. It's definitely a complex read though, and doesn't mind calling back hundreds of chapters to those kinda crappy beginning arcs and giving events from them new context so that you appreciate them more in hindsight. For example, that meeting between the various head honchos that took place during the hangman arc you read will become extremely important in the back half of the series, and you'd never know it until you get there
>>289958336IMO that arc is the low point of the series. It gets a lot better with the labyrinth which I think is one or two arcs after and just keeps escalating from there.I hate to do the "bro it gets good after 150 chapters" but for me it's definitely one of those manga.
