For me, I'm at the point where I'm not expecting anything particular from this show except for good animation and cute girls, which it does constantly deliver. I think the overall structure is quite sloppy and the show doesn't exactly know what it wants to be. BUT, I've still had fun with every episode because the moment to moment always keeps me engaged with something that's either funny, entertaining, beautiful, or downright awesome. I fucking loved this episode and kyoani knew I would love this episode. The fun different art style montage, the direct k-on (best anime ever made) refrence, the impromptu acoustic set by cutiepie inago, them accidentally creating metal because the electric was TOO powerful and distorted her voice. It was all so fucking good. I think kyoani is at their best when they're doing this kind of show. Shows that are FUN and creative. I think this show would benefit more from leaning harder into the electric invention of the week type thing and focus in on the teenage freind group. Show more of their dynamic as they work together to bring the catalog to life. I don't necessarily dislike yosuke, but I really don't think this show needs an antagonist like him. And this part at the end where he actually enjoyed the concert proves that. It feels better for him to be some kind of presence that spurs the main 5 into creating more and more rather than being some vaguely evil and kinda deranged guy. He should be their sponsor and fund them so they can actually bring about the electric age. But anyways. Yeah, this was a good episode, best of the show so far. I hope for more good episodes!

This episode was so fun, but it's impossible to take any of this shit seriously anymore. I feel dumb for defending the plot mechanics in the early episodes because even the creators don't seem to care about the story they're supposed to tell. It took decades to refine moving-coil speakers to the point of them becoming usable, and vacuum tubes were essential for amplification before the invention of semiconductors (remember that they can't even make a proper light bulb). The show is clearly not trying to make any sense, so they might as well build a train or a tram or a computer or a ghost in the shell or ultraelectric weapons that wipe out the planet.

It only matters that they are all small enough to be built inside of the workshop and powered by one person, that's enough for being believeable in this whimsical semi-magical setting.But when it's about the size of a train or a tram it's a different matter since you can't just manufacture these inside of the workshop, you'd have to give them a bigger place, additional workers, expensive materials, build some rails, and biggest of all, a high voltage power source since even in this setting it's not believable that one person on a bicycle generator could power a train.
