Even in the image you can see that the projectile path is nonsenical relative to the spoon. >wheels on a catapultAnother nonsensical bit. Wheels were not put on throwing machines because a) they were to heavy to move around so what's the point and b) having wheels would absorb much of the throwing action making the machine less effective. Throwing machines were assembled at the site of usage.>siege tower being pushed by peoplePure bunk. To move a siege tower first the ground of the desired path had to be leveled sufficienty. Then to actually move the tower in an efficient way a system of counteraction chains were set up attached to the tower going towards the desired end location and then looping through chain bales away and in the opposite direction. They were then attached to horses and cattle which would then pull away from the tower in order to move the toward forward. This allowed them to be protected from any sort of attack and moved the tower efficiently. Shown in pic.

They also regularly intervened in German politics (and obviously everywhere east of there) by sending troops to rulers who allied with them like the Premyslids often tried doing.>GreeceWas invaded several times in the 13th century (Mongols won most times), more if you count the Mongols telling their Bulgarian vassals to start wars.

They did decently against a divided eastern Europe but none of their invasions ever stuck and eventually once Poland was able to become more unified the Mongols started to see huge losses and little gains. Not even 50 years later Europeans were actually conquering lands held by the Mongols. >>290066849>I know a major reason their campaign into europe ended was the death of the Khan howeverThat isn't true though. According to Rashid al-Din Hamadani, who had access to the official Mongol chronicle, they were unawre of the Ogedai's death. You have to realize that the Mongols had the most success invading Europe the first time against fragmented Poland but then all subsequent attempts, with even larger forces, ended in abject failure for the Mongols.

>>290066800Japan's performed as well as Europeans in open battle against Mongols, with regular, more lightly armored units getting devastated, while more heavily armored units of noblemen like samurai and knights in europe performing well, but in too small numbers to make a meaningful difference in battle. But Japan was extremely lucky with KAMIKAZEEEE killing momentum of the first invasion, allowing to Japanese to prepare better for the second one. Europe did not have that luxury with open access to the steppe with uninterrupted Mongolian logistics. But the second time, they were more prepared too and did better, just like Japan.Truly the only army that beat Mongols soon as they met them were Mamluks. With turkic nomadic origins, they were being trained as warriors from the young age in the style of warfare similar to Mongols, quickly adapting to them when meeting them on the battlefield. It's like Mongols meeting Mongols but on the home turf. No wonder they lost.

Not only did they have their hands full with central Asia but also the Europeans put up fierce resistance which started with costly Mongol victories and eventually evolved into the Mongols outright losing territory despite sending larger and larger forces. This is despite the fact that Europe was weakened from Moorish invasions, forces split from crusades and a warfare between the HRE and Papal forces.

Mongols rarely did all their work in one go, but would send out sweeping survey armies to see what was going on and to get some booty to keep the army going. I don't think the characterization of the second invasion as an extremely powerful force is reasonable. The only reason to think that is if you follow the Volhynian Chronicle. The Compendium of Compendiums does not seem to mention the second invasion at all in any substantial way from what I can tell. Talabuga is mentioned only incidentally and the section addressing the Golden Horde's history focuses on the fall of Nogai to civil war and then ends abruptly with it. What are you referencing regarding the invasion and it being a huge loss exactly? I could obviously be missing something, I'm using Thackston's translation of Volume 1 as my source. The Mongols didn't wreck Europe because by the time they reached that far, the situation at home would soon start breaking down. Subatai's invasion was just a looksie to see what lay before them. Talabuga's invasion later was the product of a rump state that couldn't have held vast territories even if it smoked the Hungarians a second time and Talabuga himself was a mediocre general.
Another subtle factor that makes Sitara very unsympathetic is that she has no positive interactions with anyone except Toregene and even than that's because they are both revengetards. She's distanced from the other Khwarezian women who eventually accepted their situation and she hates and only cares for Shira as a pawn despite everything he did for her.Even the likes of Eren and pre-timeskip Thorfinn has some care and insight beyond their fixation for revenge.I'm not going to be surprised if she remains unwed even at the very end of the manga.

>>290074479>>290074581>Treacherous Sumbat (奸臣スムバト) (Serialized from August 2023)>Set in the 13th century Mongol Empire's invasion of the Georgia Kingdom.
>>290073773The Mongols vs the Georgians is basically what would have happened to Poland and Hungary if everything went to plan. One early scouting invasion, then an invasion from another direction to discombobulate, then a final thrust that wrecks everything. Georgia had some of the world's most veteran knights at the time, but it didn't help.
>>290074581>TimmyIs there a bigger 'stupid evil' person in history?
>>290070749>The first invasion being basically a scouting run is not embellishing. It was not and I did not say that part was an embellishment. Your inability to read a simple, clear sentence is disturbing. I literally said "first part" and "second part" in reference to the two parts of your statement and you still couldn't read it properly. Therefore I will dismiss you after this post because you are obviously functionally illiterate.>I don't think the characterization of the second invasion as an extremely powerful force is reasonable. It was two to three times larger than the first and the Mongol force was more unified because their internal conflicts had lessened. This is standard history.>What are you referencing regarding the invasion and it being a huge loss exactly?I never said that. Again, you are incapable of reading. Very worrying.>Subatai's invasion was just a looksie to see what lay before themSubutai's forces were not scouting. They fully committed to trying to capture key locations in Polands, Hungary, etc and were contemplating breaching the Holy Roman Empire but their force had taken much heavier casualties than expected despite several key victories and the seiges were beginning to draw out far longer than he anticipated.>The Mongols didn't wreck Europe because by the time they reached that far, the situation at home would soon start breaking down.Subutai and his forces were unaware of the situation back home when they began to withdraw. That's straight from Rashid al-Din Hamadani who wrote his texts from the official Mongol chronicle and under the supervision of the Mongols themselves. >Talabuga's invasion later was the product of a rump state that couldn't have held vast territoriesTalabuga's invasion was the largest of all Mongol invasions of Europe and the Golden Horde was still flourishing at the time so that characterization is bullshit. Running out of room so ending it here.
>>290074648>read wiki summary>it's about a guy who really really really really wanted to rebel against the mongols but didn't join in the two times it happened>eventually gets appointed king by the mongols and then dies a natural deathUh
>>290074787It is entirely standard in Mongol studies that the first invasion of Europe was a scouting trip, because this is literally what the Mongols did everywhere they went. They'd do a quick run through of everything to learn the terrain, the types of people that lived there, its economic utility, etc., and then they'd leave and regroup. Compare the first invasion of Poland and Hungary to the first invasion of Georgia and it is one-to-one, almost. Mongols come in on a scouting run, do recon and plunder to keep the ball rolling, and then leave afterwards because the point was never to conquer land. Then later come back with later attacks designed to first break, and then permanently annex the territory. The issue with the Great Khan's death is that steps 2 and 3 never came to fruition. No one thinks the Mongols intended to conquer all that land because even by your own admission, they'd have no reason to leave. Subatai objectively destroyed every army he came across. The only reason he'd have to leave is that he wasn't ever intending to permanently conquer the land he was in at the time. The casualties taken were not substantially unique compared to what the Mongols experienced elsewhere doing the exact same things. Heavy cavalry was something the Mongols were not inexperienced at beating, despite the fanfare around knights. What is your source for the size of the second invasion? Remember, that the Compendium of Chronicles doesn't mention this invasion in any substantial way. If you are just going to fall back to referencing the Volhynian Chronicle or something similar, then why even bother? The Golden Horde was a rump state that spent most of its time in some kind of civil war or conflict with the other Mongol hordes. No one thinks that it was at all on the level of the OG Mongol Empire that had a genius like Subatai at the tip of the spear.
>>290075071Its good psychological drama. Imagine hating some group with all your heart, but also being elevated in power by them because you're a coward. >>290075071Tomato Soup really loves the losers of the Mongol Empire. Here's another loser that Tomato could write for her next manga: The time the Latin Empire got rekted by the Mongols and forced to be a vassal.
>>290075917And here's the main character:>Became King when the Latin Empire only remaining territory was the city of Constantinople.>Built up his army by selling everything like his crown or holy relics and making loans, only for the Mongol Empire to invade, destroy his army and capture him.>Forced to be a vassal of Mongolia and traveling to Karakorum and basically flat broke and no more troops for his kingdom.>Spent most of his reign traveling over Europe and begging to the King of France and Venice ti give him money and troops.>The Nicean Empire reclaimed Constantinople when the Latin Empire's armies and fleet were away, forcing him to flee to Italy and die in the exile as the Eastern Roman Empire was revived..

She would have been killed or died as a lowly slave of the Mongols without his help.
>>290089394"Return the book you stole" and "thief" are the same thing. Tolui could tell she was antagonizing him thus the harsh retaliation. Shira is a good translator. Maybe he helped soften her words a little bit, and I'm sure he didn't like seeing Fatimama killed. He recommended her to Sorghaghtani because he wanted credit for getting someone to explain the book to her. He wanted their relationship to be one where they help each other out. It's not a bad thing, especially because he's in survival mode. But I can see why Sitara never had special feelings for him.Even if Shira didn't want to, he was still complicate in the worst day of her life. He doesn't seem like a bad guy, but it is kinda scary how easy it is for him to just accept things as they are and get the most out of life.

>>290089579>>290089945>He doesn't seem like a bad guy, but it is kinda scary how easy it is for him to just accept things as they are and get the most out of life.Mangaka has already massively developed his character, so a chapter or a half dedicated to his backstory would be nice. Like he is the most "self-made" character and the only one that just straight up refused his fate without anyone needing to convince him. Atleast that how he looks like now, but maybe there's some trauma hidden behind him *wink* his right eye *wink*[/spolier] ,which would make sense since it's the mongol invasion we are talking about.

>>290089394>When Sitara stupidly screams at Tolui that he's a thief, Shira tactfully translated to Tolui that she told him to return the book he stole. No, stupid. How do you think the monguls even found out they had the book.
>>290090344>And them getting together but I know that's not gonna happenManga doesn't have to be historically accurate and Sitara != Fatima, so she and Shira will go to the Tahiti in the end. Have some faith, son.Besides, mangaka is already changing a lot of characters (especially their motivations), so these two can still get together and die horrible deaths afterwards. . I wouldn't be surprised if this Shira reports on Sitara thinking he'll help her escape from "bad" Toregene's influence, never expecting such outcome.
>>290066339Aura farming was one of two jobs expected of Mongol princesses, yet she fails at it constantly... which is cute af.Anyway, apparently Arghun is the one of the few or maybe only official that survived Guyuks purges of Toregenes officials.
