Oku Hiroya-sensei (58) will retire after he finishes Kanrekihime (1)
https://courrier.jp/news/archives/452157/
>>
>>290075069
Genuinely my favorite mangaka so this is devastating for me
>>
>>290075069
Just replace him with Oku Ai
>>
>>290075069
Good
>>
>>290075069
Sad. GANTZ was fun
>>
>>290075069
I guess this means that Thunder 3 really isn't made by him
>>
>>290075069
If that's the case, hopefully Kanrekihime's serialization takes as long as Gantz
>>
>>290075253
>13 years
>>
>>290075069
He was one of Kentaro Miura's favorite mangaka btw
>>
>>290075069
Guess I'll have to start reading his mangas then
>>
>>290075376
Of course a perv likes a fellow perv

>Gigant was so bad he died
>>
>>290075069
Will Gantz ever get a perfect and complete adaptation?
>>
>>290075069
Is he dying, sounds like it?
>>
>>290075804
Terrestrial TVs would never do it in the current year but Netflix might

Thank you for Gantz and Hen.

Nope
>"No, this is it. I've made up my mind. To be honest, I just don't have the energy to keep drawing anymore. The desire to create is still there. But coming up with a story, drawing it, and keeping that process going — all of it takes an enormous amount of energy and stamina. I just don't have the energy to do that anymore."
>>
>>290075882
Nah, it's just that AI has finally advanced enough that he no longer have to draw just to goon to his fantasies.
>>
>>290075951
I was thinking he'd making a manga about AI one of these days
>>
Should have gone back to drawing yuri instead of this tranny shonen trash.
>>
>>290076109
God forbid someone tries something new
>>

he's earned an enjoyable retirement

I thought he was younger due to all the crying bullshit.
I guess when you draw all your life you stay a manchild.
>>
>>290075069
Was he a good artist or just a hack tracer?

It's an interesting interview. Felt like an accurate outlook towards his philosphy as a creator and the themes he often explores.
I'm interested on who is the mangaka that taught him about digital tools. Some like Hagiwara were one of the early adopters but that the time range he mentioned predates even his usage of it.
>>
>>290076496
Good artist, unique and interesting themes and ideas
>>
him being too tired explains how awful his art has gotten
>>
damn i didn't realize he was that old. he seemed to be having fun playing with AI gen lately and figured he was going to go all-in on making some AI manga next.
then again japanese only concede to retirement when they actually have something going wrong with their body.

As bummed as I am, at least he's retiring before he's completely crippled by health issues. He's had a solid run with some of the most memorable manga of all time, for both good and bad reasons. One of the few artists that are instantly recognizable, even if it's mostly due to same face syndrome. Kanrekihime has been hilarious so far so at least he's going out on a fun note. I'll never forget reading Gantz for the first time, very few manga have ever made me laugh so much.
>>
>>290075069
I thought he already said that before starting his latest manga.
Depending on how long it lasts, he's going to be well into his 60d by then so it's pretty reasonable
>>
>>290075069
Good for him, really. I imagine being a mangaka trying to make a living off of it in Japan and I kinda want to kill myself.
>>
>>290075980
This

Clearly enchanted by AI, I don't blame him

I've enjoyed his works since readin Hen. I think there's some truth to his recent views on manga. It feels like the broader the scope has made it harder to create masterpieces.

>>

He overused 3D models and drew over them when drawing Gantz, he developed bad habits and never fully learned anatomy because of it.
It's the reason why Gigant's anatomy and proportions are off.
>>
>>290080142
You are posting on an English language imageboard, you fucking retard.

Someone dump the chapter of Hen with Chizuru and the little boy fucking.

I think Oku is someone who elicits a lot of mixed reactions, both positive and negative, but his manga were a perfect example of innovative and groundbreaking, there's not many like him.

Fuck
My biggest fear is that they make a new gantz adaptations that's heavily toned down, its released in 12 episodes seasons every year and doesn't live up my absurd expectations
>>
>>290076496
In the conventional sense he wasn't a good artist. But sure as heck he was a very interesting artist.

it's not from any of those boards, it's from yaraon

It's just a typical headline for Japanese boards in general. The joshi wrestling weebs from /asp/ brought it here over a decade ago and it spread to the other boards a couple years ago.
>>
>>290081292
>there's not many like him.
Oku is just a watered down Yamamoto Naoki. The fingerprint of the later is over all his works.

Yamamoto was Oku's mentor, and he worked as an assistant under him before debuting
https://x.com/hiroya_oku/status/1058940277807693824
There's some inspiration from Yamamoto in Oku's works but they're ultimately different.

I really loved Maetel no Kimochi and I've been enjoying Kanreki Hime so far. Sad to see him go

I also may be the only person who liked Gigant
>>
>>290085639
I loved GIGANT, too (I loved every Oku work). As a matter of fact, GIGANT is liked by the Japanese as well. It's just the English-speaking audience who seems to be critical about it.
>>
>>290081292
A bit like Oshimi Shuzo, if you will.

>>290075951
He should collaborate with the guy he worked with for GANTZ:E or go AI if he doesn't want to draw anymore.
>>
He only made 2 good mangas in his entire career and kept milking his first genuine success.
Gigant was shit, tranny old men is shit. Hen is ungoonable those women are even less human looking than barbie dolls.
He shall be remembered for his lazy computer generated backgrounds and tracing photos.
>>
I dropped gantz when everybody died around like chapter 100. Does it get better?

gantz was fucking retarded in a bad way

did he ever make something that wasn't?

>>
>>290087894
Yes. It keeps escalating, getting more insane (in a good way) and having more drama and twists. That is until the halfway point. After that it starts going downhill and becoming messy, but it still has some good parts occasionally. It's absolutely worth continuing.
>>
I need to re-read Gantz
>>
>>290087882
Filtered pleb, many such cases on this
>>
>>290086607
my problem with Gigant is the bullshit ending, other than that I only have a problem with a couple of chapters where the mc girl looks off model, but its not that bad
>>
>>290075069
He's too young, what's wrong?
>>
>>290091000
maybe fir manga, he's getting Gigant adapted, we could get a proper Gantz adaptation as well and he could still get loaded from his existing work
>>
>>290075069
If he can retire that young more power to him
>>
>>290075069
He's filthy rich and still probably receives royalties off the GANTZ IP. Maybe he even used his money investing in something, hence he can retire young with a peace of mind
>>
>>290088229
don't waste your time.

some works can be very interesting in retrospective. others just make it clear what a mess they were all along.

You don't need to assign an arbitrary age limit to a manga as a way to trash it, that doesn't make sense anyway. If the manga is fun, it's fun, even if it's aimed for children.
>>
>>290075069
It’s usually easy to imagine what kind of readers most mangaka have, but I still don’t really know about him
