The biggest problem with Kinato is that it never fully committed on any direction or knew what it wanted to be. Instead of focusing on developing the few characters they introduced early on the kept on introducing more and more characters that never get enough commitment for the audience to truly care about them. And the switching of tones without striking a fair balance that can play into different strengths didn't help either on top of how generic the battles are conceptually as the world building was clearly not designed with fights in mind.
