I'm always baffled by the complaints the antagonist gets screentime, or is relevant to the plot and characters, or that she's entertaining to watch. Should it be the other way around? Really? It seems like a terminally franchisebrained opinion where you see Yumemita not as an anime telling a little story but as an advertising vehicle for the band therefore it's a major problem one of the main characters is "stealing" screentime from the band. It's not as if Viola is absolutely central either. Despite speculation from probably the same guy, she has no direct connection to Nonoka or Yuno's drama. And wherever Viola goes the obvious main character is sure to follow in attempts to thwart her. Outsourcing the villain role to a side character allowed them to both lighten the tone within Mewtype and keep up the menhera streak the last two seasons have been known for and exploring different angles of the cast under pressure. I think that's neat.

Say what you want about Yumemita's problems of depth in the writing, but the same is true with both MyGO and Mujica too. Raana was such a non-character that she needed extra scenes in a movie to get at least some amount of character writing. We know Taki lives in the shadow of her sister, but said sister never shows up and Taki is mainly just your cut and dry tsundere. Soyo, Anon and Tomori are at least more of a focus, but still don't have tons of depth (excluding Soyo). Mujica infamously tried to give Umiri some kind of backstory but inevitably assigned her the role of comedy relief where her struggles are just seen as something funny because it's absurd to see such a cool and collected girl burst into tears and start yelling, and Nyamu, well, she got a little bit of depth with her jealousy and love towards Mutsumi, but a lot of that isn't explored much either. Mutsumi, Sakiko and Uika received the bulk of the interesting writing. Yumemita is still ongoing, but it follows a similar trend: Ritsu, Yuno and Nonoka are not properly fleshed out (yet) aside from a few things here and there. I have hope that Yuno and Nonoka, especially the relationship between them, will see some developments, but with what little runtime we have left to resolve the main conflict I don't have much hope.TL;DR: Bandori is constrained by the 13 episode structure which inevitably sidelines some characters in favor of others. Yumemita is no different in this regard.
