She really is perfect.
>>290205203Indeed
>>290205203She's incredible math.
>>290205203>brownI will now watch your anime
That 6th episode was insane. Really enjoyed it but it's kinda sad the bad guy got taken out so quickly given he had history with Motoko. It's weird how he reacted before dying. Maybe he was mind controlled by the puppeteer?
>>290205222That's a nice run she's sitting on. Really ties the room together.
>>290205203so true
>>290208613That's just like, your ghost man
>>290205203She's goofy!
>>290205886Wow, where did she learn how to surf?
>>290206637He wasn't. But the Puppetmaster is aware of him. He'll be mentioned later, if Saru don't fuck up
>>290210332she's like Samus.Girls just wanna have fun, yknow
Okay NEXT EPISODE the Puppetmaster arc resumes. In case you aren't already familiar with the story, keep the following facts in mind:- In the opening of the show, Aramaki busted the silicon mines deal with the help of Foreign Affairs. This happened on 05/03/2029- Section 9 was able to solve the Gavel Republic case very easily because the assassination plot was sloppy as fuck (outdated virus, plenty of puppetmaster proxies out in the open, very conspicuous equipment, Togusa's ex-gf was involved, the hacker shows up while Cl. Malles is under surveillance)- the Minister of Foreign Affairs wanted to get rid of Cl. Malles cause he's a diplomatic liability, but also didn't want anything to do with the new government of the Gavel Republic because they just suck up international aid- Malles still controlled the platinum mines of his country- As a result of the botched assassination, the peace talks with the new government went nowhere, and Malles is behind bars.-Nakajima, a corrupt spook, was apparently behind it all but if he sure hired a SHIT hacker. He claimed to have been assigned to Malles' case.I also suggest that you rewatch episode 2 and take a look at some of the background characters for future reference.Am I missing anything crucial?
>>290206637For him, when Motoko made him kill his only son was the most important day of his life, for Motoko it was Tuesday. He was just an ass that ruined her day, thus no need to hear him have a villain monologue before capping that bitch.
>>290210708She truly is a lawnmower. The grim reaper rides a Johndeer.
>>290210316MARK IT ZERO
>>290210708except Motoko clearly also vividly remembers that encounter and surrounding events, misses her old comrades, expresses regret that she failed to kill him back then, and expresses anger and familiarity when executing him in the presentlet's not go overboard about how Motoko is cool and above it all
>>290210965>I'm sorry :(>that I failed to kill you >:)AttagirlThat's our major!
>>290210965what are you talking about, all she said is that he is the only one that managed to run away from them. And her angers towards the end was clearly the result from being almost killed in that day, not from any past reasons. The fact that she joked around before he attacked them in the panzer unit shows she didn't take it seriously at all>let's not go overboard about how Motoko is cool and above it allI didn't say that, what I said was that she made so many enemies in the past, that this one is not special among them.
Motoko is 100% BLACK
>>290211107shiiiiieeetNegrotoko works better than "Mira Kilian" desu
>>290211033>her angers towards the end was clearly the result from being almost killed in that day, not from any past reasonsthat's your interpretationmy interpretation is that she wouldn't wax philosophical about how he should stay in the other world if she didn't have unresolved business with himher remembering him alone makes it not a "it was tuesday" situation and there's all the other evidence I mentionedand well, the entire episode is structured around blast from the pastbut I don't like discussions about what we think the author thinks his character thinks and how she would show it, when there's no definite evidenceI believe I'm right, but I'm not going to spend too much energy convincing you, because who knows, maybe you're rightcheers
Anybody else thinks Apeface's russkie gf was supposed to look like an Enki Bilal character or is it just me?
>>290210477Extremely cute
>>290211502They both like to curl up into a ball, you see? This is part of a subliminal motif Shirow put all over the manga: a central hub with branching connections. This is how the Puppetmaster will appear as well
The major is NOT a "girlfailure", alright? She isn't settling down, she's just being realistic about her options and trying to find a good work/life balance without dismissing her previous commitments. She may have an entry-level chassis but she's decked out with tons of upgrades and NO, having 16^2 skin is STILL very rare, just because more girls can now afford it doesn't mean she's falling behind the curve.Besides, if she really was a girlfailure she'd have let Batou take a shot a long time ago. It hasn't happened yet, and won't happen anytime soon.I mean it's not like she's out there dating robots or anything, right? She's got some self-respect.
What a wanker. Glad he's gone.>>290211373
>>290211848I extend a sliver of goodwill and that's what I getmaybe acting like a tumblrina with other anons is more your speed
>>290211899pretty sure that's a random troll, anon
one thing to note is that Section 1 sold out Motoko just to get info and evidence on Anacondawhereas Section 9 skipped due process and straight up iced the guyso it's not just S9 mogging S1 due to S1's lower competence (although there's plenty of that, too)it's also that S9 sometimes makes things easier for themselves by going above the law, even in non-crisis situationsalthough I suppose S1 also aren't saints, since I doubt selling out fellow government operatives is legalso perhaps it's more accurate to say both sections tried to play dirty, S9 just did it better
>>290212032>sometimesI mean 95% of the time is technically some of the time I guess
>>290211817>She isn't settling downThere's no real reason for her to settle since she can't have kids due to her whole body being artifical sexbot.
>>290212048Settling down as in settling for something lower than she'd like. Which she definitely isn't doing.
>>290212032I don't think S9 skipped due process, after all as Mokoto said, she intended to celebrate with other top generals and stuff the successful assassination, including all proper formal military uniform. Meaning, everything was going by the book. It's S1 that was being entirely corrupt. After all the entire reason why Mokoto wanted to create a division inside the governments military for her own unit is so that she can do all the stuff she does legally.
>>290212155I thought it had more to do with job security
>>290212198well, because being a soldier is all she knew, and being 99.99% cyborg means she needs a lot of money to keep her body in shape anyway.
>>290208663>JudasThat asteroid can't come soon enough.
>>290212155I'm not convincedif S9 had the evidence, then why go for the assassination? S1 made it seem like they needed legal legs to stand on, not that they were inapable of offing Anaconda themselvesmeeting with generals doesn't necessarily mean it's above the boardthe scene opens with Aramaki explaining you should learn to control the terrorism rather than try to exterminate it, which again is an extralegal measureAramaki literally says to him you shoud go for results first, principles secondit all aligns with S9 way of doing work, and this episode themesI think they just got together to smoke some cuban cigars and congratulate themselves for a job well done
>>290212329ntaI agree
>>290212329>if S9 had the evidence, then why go for the assassination?to get a scumbag off the eartheveryone knows crime lords just pay their way out of prison. Even if they end up in prison, they have henchmen that will continue to do their business.Remember this is a dystopian view of the future, where even child slavery is accepted by the government.
>>290212377correct, which is why they didn't try to do it above board.
>>290212985Not sure how I feel about the triangular texture on the padding there, doesn't look like how Shirow would approach it, feels like texture for the sake of texture

>>290214746I'm starting to think the whole "cosmic seeds" plot was just an elaborate ploy by Shirow to draw weird porn of the major without it upsetting Kodansha>no, editor-san, this is TECHNICALLY not Motoko, this is Motoko 19, you see? She goes by uuuuhhhh Cyril Brooklyn

>we gottem boys>should we tell the other sections?>no I like surprisesBasically.
So, this series is a standalone adaptation of the manga right?Itās not in the same continuity as the movies or the 2000s anime?
>>290215275I like it a lot but let's be honest, it has almost nothing to do with GitS.Like there's psychics, there's robots, and that's about it.If you mean it has a GIANT INFODUMP that's pretty standard, it's just the kishoutenketsu structure aka OH SHIT WE TOOK TOO LONG NOW THE THIRD ACT HAS TO HAPPEN IN THE LAST 5 MINUTES QUICK QUICK QUICK
>>290215536correctwhich is funny cause the manga is not a stand-alone thing
>>290214746Cyril likes it.
>>290215463Yes, on a leash and in shibari bondage, as well as other soft BDSM implements and fetishwear.
>>290214935
>>290215634She HATES it.
>>290215815Sure she does. We'll put out a section-wide memo to make sure to let everyone know she isn't into any of that stuff, how does that sound?
>>290215583Elaborate.I feel that this standalone issue is complex.
>>290215815>>290215634
>>290215919I mean the manga's got a bunch of sequels and spinoffs (most of which are porn) and it ends on sequelbait. And some of those (like I dunno Real Drive) were advertised as part of SAC so it really makes things confusing cause they actually make way more sense within the manga continuity from what little I know.
>>290216007>Real DriveWait, what?
>>290216189Maybe I got that wrong then. I thought I saw somewhere that it was connected to SAC, but like I said, makes way more sense if it isn't.It is connected to GitS though, they even did some kind of real drive / GitS / Black Magic M-66 spinoff called Black Magic Ghost Drive but it looked kinda shit
>>290216007maybe it was a situation where other manga is in the same continuity unless the anime decides to depart from it?after all, SAC is Oshii, manga is Masamune
>>290216253>>290216253>9/11Oh no...I told you we needed that WTC edit.
>>290216263>It is connected to GitS thoughWell it's a Production IG and Shirow collab with multiple terms and technologies shared between it and GiTS so comparisons are bound to happen
>>290216312I'm probably just wrong about the SAC connexion.
>>290216341No I mean it's canon within the GitS IP, that I'm 100% sure of.
>>290216399It's been years since I watched Real Drive, but I'm going to press X to doubt unless you can prove it. By which I mean not just three being similar things in universe but actual word of Shirow that they're part of the same universe
>>290216449I think I saw that on the show's website; regardless, even if that wasn't originally the case, there's still Black Magic Ghost Drive.
>>290216449my nipponese is only so-so, but jap wikipedia does have something about how it started as a shared universe with SAC at leastbut then drifted apart, I think?

>>290216614there we go I wasn't 100% making shit up
>>290216614>>290216684>It shares some of the same settings and concepts as Production I.G and Masamune Shirowās Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series, but it is not, at least in terms of the story, a direct sequel. Rather, the work aims to depict a future world that lies beyond the world of Ghost in the Shell, making it, so to speak, a kind of "sister work" or companion piece.Which is pretty much exactly what I said in the first place about it having the same concepts, etc. (>>290216341)
>>290216670no, that was a random S1 schmuckSouma was the one in the tank
>>290216714yeah except "the same settings" is a bit more than just concepts. You can see the ambiguity there.
>>290216758>Ghost in the Shell and Non Non Biyori both take place in JapanClearly they must be in the same universe as they share some of the same settings
>>290216739i thought soma must be the one in the tank since one would assume he's more important and motoko fucked up his face but they kept showing that fat spic she slit the throat of throughout the episode and in reference to soma stuff so idk nigga
>>290216789I dunno if that's sarcasm, but if it isn't, then yeah that's why I claimed it was canon. As opposed to how Shirow described Dominion Conflict as an "alternate universe" compared to Dominion.
>>290216810then check again nigga, it's very clearly spelled out multiple times
>>290216864Anon, is Neuromancer in the same universe as Ghost in the Shell?
>>290217052Burning Chrome is.
>>290213025 it's like a motorcycle seat texture. that's the spirit of what shirow was going for but he'd probably go for a ribbed padding specifically
>>290216917sorry nigga, soma is that fat spicit's been decided
>>290217148I like you, you're the one I like
>>290217052A setting is a place, right? I know Newport also appears in non-canon works, for example, so it doesn't automatically imply canonicity. But unless there's some contradiction in continuity, the natural assumption to make is that it does take place in the same universe, isn't it?Plus "sister work" sounds a lot like spin-off to me, so even if it's not part of SAC, it can be part of the manga continuityUnless I'm missing something.

>>290217678They turned on the Mexico filter
>>290217265>A setting is a placeNo, and this is the point that I've been making: "Setting" does not simply mean "a place." In fiction, setting can mean the whole framework of a work: time period, technology, institutions, terminology, social conditions, geography, and other world building assumptions. In fact the word čØå® (settei) used in the image from earlier explicitly means concepts/world building/configuration, not its geographical location.>Newport also appears in non-canon works, for example, so it doesn't automatically imply canonicity. But unless there's some contradiction in continuity, the natural assumption to make is that it does take place in the same universe, isn't it?Again, no. Continuity needs positive evidence, not merely an absence of contradictions. Two unrelated stories can avoid contradicting each other simply because neither discusses the relevant events. If they're connected then provide what it is rather than just saying that "well I think they are so it must be true">Plus "sister work" sounds a lot like spin-off to me, so even if it's not part of SAC, it can be part of the manga continuity"sister work" does not mean "spin-off." "Sister work" is a loose description of a close creative relationship: similar concepts, shared staff/creator, thematic kinship, or development alongside another production (you know the stuff I pointed out). It doesn't inherently say anything about diegetic continuity. Production I.G's own page presents RD as an original Production I.G/Shirow project and describes its 2061 world and Meta-Real Network on its own terms; it does not present it as a Ghost in the Shell installment or sequel. And even "spin-off" wouldn't automatically solve the problem. A spin-off can itself occupy an alternate continuity.tl;dr: Shared setting elements ā shared continuity. Shared location ā shared continuity. "Sister work" ā spin-off. And absence of contradiction ā evidence of canonicity.

>>290217678this is Browntoko
>>290217788Okay here's the way I look at it.In the absence of contradicting evidence, it takes exactly 1(one) piece of positive evidence for "these two stories take place in the same universe" to be the null hypothesis. However, it only takes 1(one) piece of contradicting evidence (if it's obvious enough and can't be dismissed as a joke or something) to prove that this cannot be the case. I don't know if there's any such thing withing Real Drive. If there is, I'll be happy to consider it a different universe altogether.>concepts/world building/configurationsounds like a fair amount of positive evidence.>A spin-off can itself occupy an alternate continuity.Never seen that term used that way.

>>290217788I think at the very least the quote proves that both works share ancestryso it's more than a few common elements and concepts, but rather at some point in the past both continuities were identical, before they diverged

>>290210332I loved that moment
>>290215275What happened with this show? Did the writers go on strike after Tussle in the Temple? The second half of the OVA's are just the characters standing around telling the viewer what they need to be doing, or going out to eat to talk about what they need to be doing, or telling you things that already happened, followed by AN HOUR-LONG EPISODE where most of its runtime is detectiveman recapping to boyfriend every single event that happened in the series without answering a single question or introducing anything new.I'm still livid over this series, mostly because of how strong it comes on in the beginning.
I finished all 3 volumes of Shirow's GITS and enjoyed them a lot.Now I've started reading Human Algorithm, I appreciate all the MMI stuff but why the fuck is Motoko now like "if plot device you wish to see, solve my riddles three!" Hardly seems in-character
>>290218489Key was originally intended to be a 26-episode OVA series, but the collapse of the Japanese economy in the mid-'90s led to declining sales. It was cut short and the story arc that would have been developed over the rest of the series was summarized in two 90-minute episodes.

>>290218607I'm shocked to say this but Motoko was by far the thing I enjoyed the LEAST out of Human Algo. There's a lot of fun stuff in there, and at the fect least Motoko is being a bit cheeky this time around (unlike in MMI where she was too serious) and teases people like she used to, but it's really shocking how uninteresting she's become when compared to how she started out. She's just a proxy between the Channeling Agency's shenanigans and S9 and that's kinda lame. The worst part is that, NOT ONLY do they keep cockteasing her reunion with S9 without ever committing, they also keep lampshading the fact that they're cockteasing us. So I can't even gaslight myself into thinking I'm the only one who feels that way. They KNOW it's dumb and annoying, they TELL us it's dumb and annoying, and I don't find it cute. At least Tsunagi is fun as hell, but she ends up making Motoko seem lamer by contrast (like Tamaki in MMI)It's not like we're seeing her evolve as a character anyway. What happened to Shirow between GITS 1 and 2? I finished the first one is just 2 days and when I opened the second one, I completely lost the interest. Almost everything about it seems like it was a fanfic rather than a sequel. First there are so many colored pages but all of them look worse than in the first volume. The only nice parts were black and white. Visually, overall, it's a mess. Those 3D models look cheap, same with all cyber world stuff. Instead of silly fuchikomas you have those ugly blobs. Then there's a "plot". A bunch of pseudo psychological techno babble for three hundred pages.
>>290231981A few more words. 2 has almost none of the things that I liked in 1. Instead it seems like a distilled version focused solely that cyber bullshit.
>>290205203Been hyped about this anime since the announcement, since loved SaC and all the nitty-gritty cyberpunk SpecOps day to day work. Not the biggest fan of the movies, although I enjoyed them for what they were.Didn't get much time to catch up with the show, I'm still on Ep3. The art and animation is great, as are the VAs. But... what the hell is that breakneck pacing?
Have you seen it? Shirow was involved in this.

>>290231981>Then there's a "plot". A bunch of pseudo psychological techno babble for three hundred pages. This was already sneaking its way into volume 1 in places. 2 is just Shirow fully pursuing the esoteric spiritual shit and autistic technological speculation that interests him a lot more than the framework of a cop show ever did. Everything that used to be dense footnotes became the entire manga. It's his true self and I respect that.I bet there would have been a ton more cyberspace diving in the earlier volumes (probably to their detriment) if he'd had all those computer graphics available to him, thinking how long he must have spent creating these overwhelming eye rapes of detail is astounding.

>>290240369>each story is pretty disconnected from the nextThat's 90% of the first manga too. The Puppetmaster doesn't do anything until the latest chapter, he's only brought up earlier to tell you "there will be a puppetmaster" and "he will be significant"

I've been busting my ass in these threads pointing them out whenever they get brought up. Sure it's not always something as significant as "here's the bad guy from another chapter" but there's a whole bunch of setups and payoffs all across the first run. It's a manga about connexions, you aren't supposed to dismiss this stuff, even if it isn't always a big dramatic thing.

While Oshii is more ambiguous and self discovery, Shirowās is differentMotoko is experiencing Peppet Master's vision, but Puppet Master is not connected to digital networks or even to their cyborg body. They can sometimes see the world without eyes and cameras. And the reason for this is because in the first manga he wasn't just trying to write a cohesive world, he wanted to illustrate the concept of connexions between systems, so he even included some where it would have been superfluous or barely noticeable.by contrast in 1.5 he's a lot more restrained when it comes to reincorporation, reoccurring motifs or setups and payoffs across chapters
>>290240931No you don't. You want to be dead and self-abasement through humiliating roleplay is as close to monastic mortification as you're willing to go because, as much as you desire death, you're also afraid of it, because you're afraid of consequences in general.right now it's "girl" it could also be "dog" or "U.S. marine", it's a cheap substitute for suicide>>290240888yes, very much so and I'm pretty sure he mentioned moorcock once
>>290240940Just because he doesn't do it doesn't mean he can't. 1.5 is kind of a victory lap, Shirow's resting on his laurels. I understand the culmination of the Peepeepoopoomaster was a big driving force behind his motivation to do what he did, but his story-telling, world-building and narrative are still in a mostly disconnected and standalone format.
people will pretend this ep was technobabble when they were basically just saying different permutations of "i'm diving deeper", "shit is strange yo", "this net is vast", "woah this net is everything"

>>290241208Major's evolution into a SHODAN entity is inevitable
>>290241178I know he can do it, my point is that if you shoehorn 1.5's stories into the same show as the original stories, you're gonna dilute the themes. So it's a good thing that Saru didn't.>the culmination of the PeepeepoopoomasterNo the puppetmaster also exists as a vehicle for Shirow's overall thesis. At the end of the manga she basically turns into a sockpuppet for Shirow to show off all the cool shit he's been reading about and which were already shown at other points of the manga. And those things have to do with connexions. Big ones and subtle ones.In 1.5 he pretty much ditched that theme and the writing gimmicks that went with it. So it would stick out like a sore thumb in the same show.
>>290238919did you forget the first two episodes? the budget was passed for the Koukaku Kidoutai because it has the cover of being an International Rescue UnitThe Shell Squad is an actual thing in the manga and it's a part of Public Security Section 9 unlike in SAC or the movies where it's just Section 9

So the puppet master is a conciousness, a life form born from the flow of information? It was created by japan foreign minister and was working for them until it became sentient and decided to do its own thing whatever that was... But what are the implications of the last sequence? The puppet master is probably dying after being torn to pieces by the explosion and then we see it becoming part of the "net", becoming one with the universe or something and we see the iconography of angels and the divine and Motoko has an out of body experience after diving into the puppet master "mind". I don't quite get it. Is this supposed to show us that the puppet master is ascending to a higher life-form and thus can be considered as a human and even more than that a god?

Is this supposed to show us that the puppet master is ascending to a higher life-form and thus can be considered as a human and even more than that a god? She's now a ghost, plain and simple, in the truest sense of the term: the disembodied spirit of a dead person (a dead robot, in this case). She isn't a god, but she's now in contact with the Net which is as close to God as it gets at this specific point in the timeline. Now mind you, this experience will alter the Puppetmaster's understanding of life. So far she had banked it all on "I think therefore I am", but as it turns out, when you're a ghost, you aren't really alive.
>>290242689its not going into humanity or godhood it's just shedding excess stuff from a cyberbrain while actively being able to sense ultra weak low level potential? connections, that shit like major's barriers can't even detect, between anything and ride a little net on that. what's interesting is that it kept its "self" while being reduced to nothing but signal.

>>290243084WRONG. Not even Shirow knows that.
>>290243173>Does the anime have liner notes? It actually does in places yeah, they straight up took some of Shirow's lore footnotes from the manga and rendered them in little white text in the corner of the screen to recreate his information-dense style. The amazon subtitles have ignored virtually all of them.
>>290243106Yeah that's a pretty good guess, but the big difference is that the Wired only started becoming conscious when humans started fucking with it by blasting radio waves into the atmosphere, because the Wired specifically has to do with electriticity. The Net, on the other hand, has always been around doing its thing, you can connect to it even if you're a fucking caveman I have a pet theory that it's actually a remnant of the Yamata no Orochi from Orion, because it likes eating negative karma
>>290243211>The amazon subtitles have ignored virtually all of them. This is what people get for supporting corporate subs over fansubs
It's amusing that Shirow found profundity in 1989-1990 over the idea of AIs living on the internet to the point he compared it to a religious experience--when in reality it's just bots shitposting at other bots and it's viewed as horrifyingly dystopian now.

>>290243505>He was imagining actual artificial consciousness, not the glorified autocompletes currently using the label. Is that even any more profound than regular humans browsing the internet and shitposting at each other though? It wouldn't necessarily seem to be.>>290243537Usually scifi authors are trying to predict future trends or portray some kind of relevant near or far future situation for people to consider. It was a bit unexpected to use the manga to posit something that is independent of human technology out there called 'The Net' exists and use language that in 1989-1990 evoked the early internet to describe it. But I guess plenty of scifi stories have had transcendental themes that were not 100% tied to technology. Maybe he thought the metaphor would make sense to people, although at the time of the manga's publication the internet was mainly just used by researchers and academics, but I guess he could see it would become more widespread and in use by the general public, and so the metaphor would make sense down the road.

>>290244096Looks like a panel from the simpsons. was the gits manga subtly influenced by the simpsons?
>>290244010No, it's something that's part of life and the universe and that serves as a link between all existing things. It's internet but in real life
>>290243619I like it too, but you can tell Shirow's just kind of spinning his wheels with it because it's not his real vision for a GITS sequel.2's problem is that it doesn't have much of an emotional pull to it at all, it's Motoko 11 being hyper competent and kicking everyone's ass for a whole volume then some wild Alan Moore shit happening so he can expound his take on Japanese creation myths. It's still a fascinating journey and like no other manga I've read, but it's lacking the basic pleasures of a dramatic story with a memorable cast of characters that the earlier volumes had in spades.
>>290243846>although at the time of the manga's publication the internet was mainly just used by researchers and academics, but I guess he could see it would become more widespread and in use by the general public, and so the metaphor would make sense down the road. That's because he WASN'T talking about the internet he was talking about the structure of the universe. Thinking of reality as a computer program. Not as a simulation, mind you, but as a system that computes information. It's an idea that VASTLY predates the internet. It's in the fucking Yi-Ting, ok? It's Leibniz and shit. Every fucking mathematician or physics nerd who grows a little too big for his breeches inevitably starts thinking he can become a mystic, and they've been writing books about computing reality for a LONG fucking time. >>2902443231.5, as described in Shirow's foreword, is literally leftover story ideas he didn't have time to properly insert into the manga, so he turned them into a sequel>2's problem is that it doesn't have much of an emotional pull to it at all, it's Motoko 11 being hyper competent and kicking everyone's ass for a whole volume then some wild Alan Moore shit happening so he can expound his take on Japanese creation myths. >>290244178And that's what convinced motokomtomoko to fuse with the puppetman?
>>290244742well yeah cause she's experienced a lot of that for herself:she's tried to fix the system from the inside, but she's been manipulated by section 6 and the russiansshe's constantly fighting for survival and trying to perform better than everyone else because her competitors always have bigger and better toys (even her girlfriend gets the same skin as her to fuck better)she saw a lot of big ambitious plans go wrong and her own strategic approach almost always fucks up at some point which requires her to improviseand that's in spite of her relying heavily on her gut instinct which are hinted to be mild precognitive abilitiesevery time she tries to kick back and relax and live a stable life, something gets in the wayand she has to rely on violence a lot.So when 2501 gives her a big abstract rundown of things she already knows because of her personal experience, she's inclined to agree.Plus, she's had premonitions of it, and she trusts her gut instinct. She knows it's risky though, but having a super hacker AI in your brain is a very useful tool when the bad guys are after you.

Besides, nothing suggests that the tank in episode 5 was in a chatroom.Oh, also, we know what going online looks like in GitS : it's shown to us in the orgy scene, and it looks way more realistic than what we just saw. Motoko had nipples and stuff in the orgy scene, her ghost doesn't.And even though it's not written by Shirow himself, Human Algorithm runs with that explanation: Tsunagi doesn't have a cyberbrain and she's got a bunch of psychic powers. Also, pay extra close attention to the liner notes as you re-read the manga, Shirow explains that you need to achieve meditative trance by shutting off your senses. Not by communicating with your cyberbrain.
>>290245410Well the Puppetmaster's ghost has pretty feminine feet in the manga. I will also add that the body you see is inspired by some depictions of Gaia, the earth-mother, so Shirow clearly was attached to the idea that there was something inherently female about the Puppetmaster.
>>290235511oh no shes gay again

>>290246804I am reading through The Human Algorithm, a spinoff manga by a different writer/artist duo that ran for about 108 chapters through 2019-2025 and purports to fill in some of the timeline between volumes 1.5 and 2 of the manga continuity. From what I've read so far, it's notable first and foremost for trying to engage with some of the concepts in 2 that have mostly been ignored in the rest of the franchise, while incorporating them into a narrative that is more reminiscent of the traditional cybercop action from vols 1-1.5.I am enjoying it, it's not bad and I like the willingness to visit this territory, but it's also very referential while not measuring up to what's being referenced (regular callbacks to moments from v1 that get kind of groanworthy, occasional le silly faces that feel forced compared to Shirow's goofiness).
>>290246834Unfortunately 1:1 is what everyone in Japan wants these days
>>290245577Haven't read it myself but it's a shame these new authors did that, while there are lots of foreign adversaries / frenemies for Section 9 to face in the OG GitS, they spend just as much time dealing with their own nations internal corruption. Shirow's approach to nation states and their interests can be summed up as "same shit, different butt".
