>>290228139This is literally the exact question I ask about isekai. Especially from a Japanese perspective. Is life in Area 11 really that bad, these days, that everyone younger than 40 wants to be reincarnated in some generic fantasy land?
>>290228578Everything has been getting progressively worse over the years. Even anime/manga itself is also getting enshitified. Nothing escapes modern enshitification curse.
>>290228733This is my biggest issue. If I'm living a power fantasy I don't want to reincarnate in some shitty DnD campaign, I'd rather be in Star Trek.
>>290228578CapitalismAnyone who tells you otherwise is an idiot or a useful idiot
personally, I would want to be reincarnated as a battle harem protagonist with my very own twintailed thighhigh wearing flat chested tsundere sidekick and main love interest.
>>290228139Realistically speaking in half the isekai stories it's just a generic formulaic introduction and then doesn't matter at all beyond that and it's indistinguishable from other generic fantasy slop. Then the ones where it actually matters fall into either them not being a shitter who hates their past life and that translating into whatever they're doing, they're just a consoomer who's in a thing they read/played/watched, or they're actually just a reprehensible piece of shit and it shows. And lo and behold, whether any of these are good depends entirely on if the author is shit or not. Basically the problem is more just formulaic slop content than isekai as a concept. If it was a different genre that caught on it would be just as creatively bankrupt and garbage. As a matter of fact, we already had a flood of interchangeable battle harems before isekai, and there's probably something before that I don't remember.
>>290228139It's just nu-age power fantasy, there's no deep meaning to it. There's so much of it because it's easy to copy and easy to get money from with no effort, not because everyone actually wants to jump off a bridge.
If there was a bridge infront of me I would jump off it right fucking nyow.

>>290228139>is real life really that terrible and cruel for people to want to escape it this much?Duh, but I still agree with him. Escaping into fictional worlds doesn't mean you have to like isekai stories. You can watch anime or play video games with fantazy settings without the isekai theme. There's nothing wrong with isekai conceptually, but the current flood of isekai anime is too similar.
OP IS BIG FAGGOT. It's been news since 2023 but it wasn't even news since one merely had to watch the anime that came out to see the isekai trend naturally fade according to the usual pattern.
Isekai is just means going into another world like Alice in Wonderland is isekai. But the okatu crap we're getting is always some loser who dies and ends up in some medieval video game style world. We need some variation.

Guess what, the japs have kept expanding the term to cover the 00's and then the 10's and soon enough the 20's as well, arriving at 4 lost decades and still counting. >>290232734Doubt it. All roads lead back to fertility. Japan was already an aging society at that point in time, which affects the makeup of the franchise and how it's excercised. You cannot very well sell the idea to old people that you gotta raze the failed system to the ground to start anew. Old people don't want to start from zero, that's a young people's game.
>>290228669Some old manga about a guy being teleported into his own manga nailed a good point before, when he starts interacting with his characters he realizes all of them are dumb as a rock because they're all a reflect of his own intelligence and none of them can be more intelligent than their own creator and this is simply what isekai is in a nutshell: a controlled safe enviroment for losers who in reality would never be able to adapt to a new world when they can't adapt to a small change in enviroment like let's say, finding a new job or even leaving their own room.

>>290232128Isekai the logical end point of real world hopelessness. People who have problems with the world but believe they can be fixed are less drawn to isekai. They would rather write, read, or watch something about the world changing. That's still aspirational and can even be escapist. But it isn't defeatist. Isekai escapism is for those that have given up all hope that the world can possibly improve. The only aspiration left is to not be in it.
>>290233262That's not capitalism, that's banking. Capitalism is when you subdue all national interests and questions to the pursuit of greater wealth for a handful of shareholders and bank owners who then command everyone as their slaves.

Prior to the industrial revolution and for almost all of recorded history most people worked as farmers doing back-breaking work from sunrise to sunset. After the industrial revolution people moved to work in dirty factories where industrial accidents were common and cleanliness was of no concern. A couple of decades ago people worked in clean air conditioned offices. Technology has clearly changed the game completely and this process has not stopped, in fact working from home has become increasingly popular in just the last few years. If you're working a blue collar job then you're still going to have to get your hands dirty and might hurt yourself at work but technology has still made things way easier for you, for example plumbers now having access to things like cameras and pressure tools for unclogging pipes. You sounds like you get all of your information from the anti-work plebbit or maybe tiktok.>>290236834I was replying to the claim that miserable jobs are a trait of capitalism rather than just a constant of human existence. I don't know enough about Japan to say for sure what the cause of their depression is, but I've heard that their work-life balance is quite bad and I could see that being a major factor. People work such long hours that they don't have time for relationships so they either remain perpetually single or drift apart from their own children, leading to social isolation and burnout. The strongly hierarchical culture presumably doesn't help either with how it impacts the dynamic between bosses and workers. I doubt work is the only reason for Japan's situation but I think it is a contributing factor. Unfortunately most people are allergic no nuance and want to explain everything with a singular cause so that they don't have to think too deeply about the issue.
>>290235866Because modern society needs people who are willing to slave away their entire life to function.
>>290237521>Most jobs ARE easier due to technologyYou are missing something in this however, I'm not the anon you're talking to but as technology has made jobs easier, they've also expanded how much you do. And the trade off isn't actually good. One of the biggest examples is women's house work, before the fridge was invented they actually had to do less housework, when it came about expectations went up and so they had to do more. Now obviously some things are just good, like pasteurisation meant no more toiling over raw milk.
>>290237733>call plumber for a deep clog>has to break my wall to get at the pipes>call plumber for a deep clog>pulls out a long thin anal bead device and sucks my entire pipe clean in one tug
>>290237733>One of the biggest examples is women's house work, before the fridge was invented they actually had to do less housework, when it came about expectations went up and so they had to do morePrior to fridges women had to go buy groceries from the market in the morning so I'm not quite sure about the idea that refrigeration increased the amount of housework, especially when the improved preservation meant that meals could be either fully or partially prepared ahead of time rather than on the spot. It's also worth nothing that vacuum cleaners, washing machines, dishwashers and the like also reduced the amount of workload in the home quite significantly. I think a better example of what you're talking about would have been to examine the range of skills that are required for office work versus working at a factory line. It's also not entirely clear whether wages have kept up with the increase in the demands of modern jobs (note that this is not the same thing as productivity).

>>290237733>things are just good, like pasteurisation meant no more toiling over raw milk.Pasteurisation is one of the worst things, because it directly correlates with the rise of lactose intolerance in the modern population. The fact that Rothschild supported it should tell you all you need to know. And the toiling over raw milk is also just a wrong statement, it was quite easy to do, considering you could get fresh perfectly drinkable milk each morning. Only thing that needed bit more work was butter.
>>290238316Do not fall for the soap jew. Clean hands are for serving master's food, historically.
>>290238316>rise of lactose intolerance in the modern populationDoes that even matter if you can just make lactose free dairy products? It has no biological role beyond providing some calories.
>>290238484You can do that, but it is a solution to a man-made problem. Which was definitely intentional, to sell these lactose-free products, considering they are often more expensive. Which yet again shows the issues of the modern society.
>>290238484>It has no biological role beyond providing some calories. Also, this is blatantly wrong. Biological milk has plenty of other nutritional effects that lactose free milk doesnt have.
>>290238582I don't buy that. Pasteurization has been around since the 1800s while lactose-free products are a much more recent phenomenon. In fact I highly doubt people in the 1800s even had any idea that pasteurization could impact rates of lactose intolerance in the long term since that doesn't seem like something they could have figured out with the tools and knowledge they had at the time. It's also worth noting that pasteurization increases milk's shelf life which should help drive down the price due to more flexible supply, so it's not even clear milk would be any cheaper in a world where pasteurization never became a thing.>>290238609You haven't exactly convinced me with that statement but even if that is true it would have to be due to factors other than the lactose itself.

If someone came up with an actually interesting Isekai story that shook up the formula, people would immediately flock to it. Here's some suggestions.>Don't give the main character a power up and have him or her realistically struggle with adapting into a medieval world>Base a fantasy world on medieval Asia instead of european medieval shit>Have the main character be an actual defined character with flaws and issues. >Have the main character actually miss his life back on earth and want to return home>Make the fantasy setting actually grounded and realistic like Berserk. Not obviously artificial like Sword Art Online or Overlord.>Adapt or remake a world of older isekai fiction from before the craze. >>290245096And ultimately what makes narou/yomu work is that the story lets the reader indulge in things that conventional stories often treats as problematic, while still giving those indulgences enough characterization, worldbuilding, conflict, and consequences to become an actual narrative.12 slopdom, escawhateverthefuckery can never ever do that. >>290228578We allowed politicians to be influenced by money rather than the idea of an angry mob beating down the door.
>>290245417Difficulty is not the same thing as quality. A work can be extremely difficult to understand because it is badly written, because it is obscure, or because the author is simply incompetent at communicating what he means. Conversely, something can be immediately comprehensible while still containing enormous artistic depth.Twelve slopdom is such a story. 0 depth. 0 impact. Now you can continue pretending its not sloppa. But that will never change.

>>290245465a complex work is not necessarily great but a truly great work is always complex and multi-layered in one way or another. anything that is easily comprehensible in its entirety is by definition shallow because true artistic depth cannot be seen at the surface. what youre thinking about is probably a work that has superficially appealing elements that make it viable for mass popularity but still hides a greater depth and meaning that general audiences will always ignore, only to be appreciated by patricians.this is why a layman cant distinguish between art that is great but not easily digestible and art that is simply convoluted, because its all the same to them, they are colorblind to good art.
>>290245713A haiku is not exactly some insanely complicated art form. A folk song can have very simple lyrics. A good joke can be understood immediately. That doesn't mean there's nothing there. And I don't really buy the idea that "true depth cannot be seen at the surface. If a movie portrays grief or loneliness or alienation incredibly well, and I immediately understand what it's doing, that doesn't somehow make it shallow. In fact, I'd argue that being able to communicate something complicated clearly is itself a form of artistic skill. Making something confusing is easy. Making something simple without making it stupid is much much harder.Sadly your favorite show twelve slopdom is not better than your average modern isekai. It never was and never will be. The other thing I don't buy is this idea that normal people are basically colorblind to good art while the patricians can see the secret layers.

>>290245805>And I don't really buy the idea that "true depth cannot be seen at the surface. This is because the act of interpretation, what you need to actually understand a piece of art, inherently requires effort on the part of the viewer.>If a movie portrays grief or loneliness or alienation incredibly well, and I immediately understand what it's doing, that doesn't somehow make it shallowyou didnt immediately understand what it was doing, you merely *felt* it which is a completely different, but you didnt understand how it accomplished that. Just because you felt the right emotion doesnt mean you understand the writing devices and techniques the story used to elicit that emotion, and its that what you need to grasp in order to understand interpret a piece of art and actually grasp the deeper meaning that is born from the symbols, metaphors, references etc. working together to create an additional layer of the story. making something that easily and directly elicits emotion is its own skill, but its not a substitute for creating real artistic depth, that would just be a hack writer employing popular tropes and archetypes without understanding what they were originally in service of.>The other thing I don't buy is this idea that normal people are basically colorblind to good art while the patricians can see the secret layers.normal people only like good art by coincidence, the kind that knows how to jingle keys to keep the layman entertained while simultaneously building a greater layer of depth. if that layer was gone, the layman wouldnt be able to tell if the patrician didnt tell them, which is what traditionally the role of the critic was before they succumbed to the pressures of the entertainment industry.
This isn't really about isekai specifically but why do the masses eat up such low level garbage. It can be harem slot, it can be isekai shit, it can even be MCU garbage. It's not that I expect or want everything to be such high level concept artistry but why must it be so bottom of the barrel? I like to think people are generally intelligent. I like to think the best in humanity. But then someone tells me how much they loved Ready Player One and I die a little inside each time.

People do complain about the glut of formulaic romcoms where the girl likes the boy because he's nice, it takes 1000 chapters for them to make eye contact and 2000 more to hold hands, at which point the series ends. The backlash towards isekai is the result of two things: over a decade of sustained overexposure, and the generally low quality of the adapted material. Most isekai shit is coming from Narou, which is barely a step up from the dregs of FF.net or AO3. These are unskilled amateur writers with no editors to guide them and little life experience, so what you end up getting is the same "truck-kun into Dragon Quest" combo over and over and over again. >>290228139>>290228356It's not just simply real life that's awful to live in. It's real life in current year, with inflation far surpassing any wage increases and cost of living shooting through the roof. Simply being reincarnated in the 1950s would already be better, never mind in another world.

I love the trend of millionaire trust fund kiddies being baffled why the average person is totally checked out of reality. They feel the need to go on streams and interviews to announce how absolutely unhinged they are. Too bad normalfags will never wake up and just start shooting at these faggots whenever their luxury cars happen to be outside their gated communities and heavily secired villas.

>>290251227But violence bad....
>>290241716Tbh the reason why most isekai stories give MC everything on a silver platter is because it's much easier to do than the gradual progress that is self-improvement. In other words, most authors are hacks. Pretty much everyone who wants to be isekai'd will be more than happy with having to put in effort to improve, because unlike in real life, especially current year, effort is actually guaranteed to translate into visible results. This is also the same reason why so many stories have stat systems: to more clearly and obviously display improvement.
>>290244184Offhand I remember Barrier Master

>>290241716>>290251451Also no you do not sound like a boomer. Those who actually sound like boomers are the ones who don't understand how shit the world has become compared to past decades. How little you get for the same amount of effort compared to past decades. How working a minimum wage job used to be enough to buy you a big fancy house after 10 years but now wouldn't even be enough to pay off rent for a cramped one room apartment. Put it another way, unlike what >>290228356 claims, people who can't accomplish anything here actually CAN accomplish shit just by reincarnating into another world, simply because the bar to clear is *that* much lower. That's the thing that the vast majority of people ITT and outside simply don't get.

>>290252234Well have you read MT or twelve kingdoms? If you haven’t you won’t realize that MT is the better written series and you’re only embarrassing yourself. Samefagging won’t help you.
MT is designed in a way which no other isekai author can replicate no matter how hard they try. There existed some very mediocre isekai series in the past, series that didn’t even manage to surpass MT’s mediocre arcs. You see when it comes to isekai there was first the dark age.Twelve kingdoms, escaflowne etc. These are all works that were mediocre to the core, absolutely unremarkable series made for the female audience forgotten in like a few years and nobody even talked about them for ages. Do you notice how you have to constantly barge in MT threads and remind MTchads how their inferior series also exist? This is because they’re inferior and if you made a thread about them they would die quite fast. In fact they wouldn’t even get like 2 replies. I know this is a hard pill to swallow. But anyhow, before Mushoku Tensei there was the dark age of isekai. Works such as I mentioned above were frankly trash and nobody took them seriously. Then came the age of shousetuka ni narou: leadale no daichi nite, Meikyuu harem, Re monster and some new narou series started sprouting but also not many people gave a rats ass about those. Because they had this one gimmick and bam author wrote themselves into a corner they quickly devolved into cheap fast food type shlock. Nobody even cared how they would end and most of them never did end either or ended in a way that was awful. But then came the light of civilization so to say. Came MT which was like the Roman Empire civilizing all the barbarian savages. It opened the gate. It opened the way.Sadly of course, even after it showed others the way none of them managed to surpass MT which stayed as a masterpiece to this day.

>>290252773It's not like that in Japan, just like how the Japanese dude in the op is looking down on isekai, they look down on Rider fans and tell them to grow the fuck up.But what you said has some truth to it, it's not that bad for rider that's why they make some toys for adult that cost 50k+ yen but with Precure or other franchise for girls there's literally nothing for men, the companies have to pass up free money not making toys that pander to male otakus because liking shows for little girls is le bad, it's morally wrong according to these people.I think wish fulfilment isekai is cringe but I'll never tell people to stop liking it, or the companies to stop making stuffs for them because they're allowed to like what they like.
>>290233331Grimgar is fucking nuts a few volumes after where the anime leaves off. It kind of goes weird for a bit when they find another dimension in a dungeon, then everything goes to shit and they go to a different different dimension, then they finally get back and go an Odyssey like expedition to get home that ends with them in a different different different dimension (when they were almost back) where everyone is nuts and has a power based on their mental illness, then everyone gets mindwiped again when they finally make it back to the starting area except Mary because she died earlier and got revived by having the MPD consciousness of the No Life King that gets new voices by transferring between people stuffed into her and one of the alt personalities ate the memory wipe after taking control for the entirety of the mental illness dimension. Also orcs took over almost everything and half the cast died and the world started ending, but that's a whole different conversation.
>>290253071>the companies have to pass up free money not making toys that pander to male otakus because liking shows for little girls is le bad,I think the bigger issue is it might confuse or even taint the brand. Your target demo is still little girls and you don't want to create the image that this isn't wholly appropriate for them.
>>290233331>>290253575Well. Piss. You know if you go just by the anime I don't think Grimgar was a bad little series. It's certainly not power fantasy but it had this melancholic tone were they kind of grew to accept their lot.
>>290253612I'd argue it kept pretty reasonable up until the author read Alice in Wonderland and decided the story needed a trippy what the fuck is happening arc. Though the schizo goo was also kind of a decision.
>>290233331Grimgar didn't seem that interesting to me.I think Zero no Tsukaima is still the best Isekai even if S4 was rushed and the author died before the LN finished. I can name other good ones but ZnT is still my favorite because the anime concluded satisfactorily and it knew from the begining what it set out to do, in the anime anyway. The LN becomes convoluted in some ways because of the author dying. The issue with most Isekai is they fall victim to scale creep and power scaling, or the worlds they take place in feel ill considered by the author or pretty generic.Ironically Overlord doesn't have this despite people complaining about it. Most Isekai I like don't have power creep and power scaling problems, the only one that I like that does do it is probably Villainess Level 99
>>290253580There's nothing to taint the brand man, it's not like they're asking for naked figurine or anything, they just want a high quality figures that's as good as what other series get, the price will be out of reach for little girls that's why if they make it some people will use it to attack the company for pandering to le disgusting otakus. For example Gundam can make cheap stuffs for kids and expensive stuffs for adults exactly because it's acceptable for adults to like Gundam.
>>290228139>It makes me wonder—is real life really that terrible and cruel for people to want to escape it this much?yes

>>290228139Where did the trend of dying before you get Isekai'd started? older Isekai series like "El Hazard" and "Those Who Hunt Elves" had the characters being teleported via magic/science to another World without dying, even older stuff like "Alice In Wonderland" and "Wizard Of Oz" had a rabbit hole and a tornado as portals respectively (no death)

>>290228139These bunch of faggots start only complaining now? The problem was never the whole purpose of "isekai", the problem was always retarded and uncreative authors copying other existing works like a fucking template, then making the same uninteresting characters (especially main characters) and a world as interesting as dry bread.Isekai is just the perfect theme to demonstrate how fucking worthless and retarded an author can be, most of their authors continue to make worlds that run on handwaved vibes instead of actual thinking people with their own needs and tastes interacting with each other, with the real world they at least had an illusion in place that the background isn't a void of personality, not so with isekai. They don't even try to make a GATE type of Isekai, because they know they can't actually worldbuild an isekai world to be as interesting as the real world, perfectly demonstrating how much these authors truly give a shit about their writing.

>>290241716>>290235866we went from creating lasting aspirational figures to just putting ourselves in the work. A character like Conan is absolutely escapist fantasy, we pretended to be Conan, we wanted to be like Conan. We had fantasies of fighting monsters, getting the damsels and being a general badass of legend. The Hyborean ages is world of HIGH ADVENTURE! Isekai is different though. Isekai is just LITERALLY ME. But I suck. And it's not like the story has a me that doesn't suck. In fact a lot of the time I suck even harder than I might in real life. This somehow makes me a worthy choice for a god to give cheat powers to and then set me off on my way to a world that functions like a video game. I'm not on some quest. I'm not out to slay a great evil. I'm just supposed to sandbox this shit I guess but that doesn't make for an interesting story. I'm not interesting. And changing my location doesn't make me interesting. There's a reason a lot of older isekai heroes tried to get home. And then you have the kicked out revenge fad which is just pure narrative seethe.

Isekai makes people seethe because isekai does the opposite of most fiction. While isekai are aesthetically similar to each other, they are each very unique structurally as they don't follow standardized structure formulas in many cases. Popular things like battle-shounen do the opposite wherein they are aesthetically unique, but structurally very similar. The contrast between isekai and mainstream stuff makes these traits very noticeable and thus shatters the illusion of originality for mainstream stuff. So a reaction caused by this cognitive dissonance is that isekai is just forcefully portrayed as "low-quality" and "not even worthy of comparison" in hopes that this somehow restores the illusion. This is also why evaluation standards for isekai are so blatantly changed from story/characters/world-building to just bullshit such as "many tropes, bad, fewer tropes, good". All in the name of protecting the "originality illusion" of mainstream stuff.

>>290256064im starting to worry about the isekaifags, i used to think they just willingly enjoy slop but maybe they are actually clinically retarded
>>290259320- this has already crystalized as the standard shonen romcom, and its already starting to become self referential with things like hyakkano and makeine showing up- this is just isekai adjacent or native isekai, since it still uses all the same templates (adventurers guild, heros party, demon king, ranking system), just without the isekai setup which makes it seem more stupid- the japanese have been "chinkaboos" for as long as they have existed and taking inspiration from traditional chinese culture is just making a comeback after the two countries got estranged during japans fascism phase
I promise you, what takes the place of isekai will be so much worse. My guess? Influencer and VTuber waifuslop.

>>290269148>It's built on the notion of unfairnessThings are unfair. I've made peace with that long ago. Only idiots think "life is fair". If they do think that it is because they are in a position where they have had multiple things going for them. They were at the right place at the right time to meet critical connections, was born to the correct people, and had certain talents that meshed well with their already living circumstances, etc. There are plenty of people who fail in the modern day because simply put, society is aimless. It used to be that a job would naturally happen upon you just from the people you know and the structures around you, nowadays you literally have to find one, and not only that, but merit means nothing for them - it is all about connections. Even worse that we are in an era of easy mass transport and so people can just move at will, meaning you are competing with the entire world and not just your local area. Someone like me never had a chance at something great because simply put, I never had the circumstances for it. Not to mention that in general, we are in an era of decadence and decline. Even coveting success in this era is a waste of time because of how unstable everything is.Not even talking about cheat powers, just circumstance. Again, this modern era is unlike any other in how society is structured. Normal merit is worthless.
>>290268742What the fuck are you even talking about? What isekai has God "choose" an MC whose main characteristic is being "A worthless gamer shut in who never did anything good for anyone and spends all day watching anime and jacking off"? The only case even remotely tangentially related to that description, Hell Mode, has a 5-8 working fully functioning member of society salaryman as the MC who just happens to have a hard-core /v/idya hobby in his free time and he fits what one of the otherworld's gods needs in a plausible way that becomes very apparent as the story continues. That's just one and it's not even a good match to what you said. And aside from that? None, nada. When you make a point don't conjure them up from thin air. Make a point that actually applies to isekai, retard.
>>290250022nigga that's how half of successful people function in this day and age. Dig into any rich person's history and it's a mixture of cover ups and getting catapulted into success through familial connections. ESPECIALLY the ones who want to pretend they're self made
>>290252907>Comparing capeshit and narou/yomu isekai is retarded. Not really. They've been the dominant recycled slop templates in western and Japanese media respectively for over a decade (going on two in capeshit's case) and have become symbolic of creative bankruptcy and stuck culture as a result.
>>290252871Not wanting every other anime in a season to be a low-budget adaptation of some awful "My Immortal"=level crap from a glorified fanfiction website is not the same as wanting all anime to be "le deep" or even hating escapism.
>>290252514>But then came the light of civilization so to say. Came MT which was like the Roman Empire civilizing all the barbarian savages. It opened the gate. It opened the way.Aura Battler Dunbine is 10 times the story MT is and it was there decades before it.

>>290228139>—is real life really that terrible and cruel for people to want to escape it this much?what a boomerPeople can't afford houses, can't afford children, they can't afford to live, their countries are overrun by foreigners who hate them, their home country prioritizes the foreigner and hates the citizen, you pay taxes on everything, the government finds new ways to take away your rights and squeeze you dry more and more each year, nothing ever gets better, laws increasingly stop favoring you, and each year you're told the country will run out of money for social security long before you ever get a chance. People want an isekai because they want a chance to start over in a system that isn't hopeless from the start, where even your basic skills will be appreciated, and you can simply build a house without it being declared illegal and the government tears it down the next day because the government owns all the land. They want a system that at least gives you a chance to build from the bottom up, rather than system that's already designed to fuck you over before you're even born.
>>290228139I can't believe that after more than a decade of repeating the same reincarnation story thousands of times made people bored with the concept
>>290271314>the same reincarnation storyWhich is... what exactly? It's always the same thing supposedly, yet no one, not a single person who claimed that, ever, has been able to point out what this "always the same story" actually is. It should be very easy to say it when you have seen "the same story" even just 10 times, not to mention 1000 times. Yet all I see are excuses, vague-posting and dodgy phrases like "it's sooo MUH obvious, you are at fault for not getting it!" or leaps in logic like "both introduce an adventurer guild in the first book, therefore everything until book 15 is identical!" But hey, maybe (You) are the one to finally enlighten me about what this "same story" is?

>>290228139you been saying this shit for like 3 years and yet the slop doesn't stop
>>290228139Most peoples lives suck, so they escape to the unreal world of fiction. The pushback comes from those with an ego far too inflated and those that believe they are more important than others. Those types of people believe most art isn't some form of escapism and they are above that. It's a very pathetic mentality. The ones who indulge in that escapism and recognize that it is escapism but still do so anyway are much more honest.
>>290270816Okay, but let's not kid ourselves. Isekai doesn't actually delve into any of that. It's not making any social commentary or commiserating with the average joe on what's shit about modern life. What it's actually doing is stroking the ego of the lowest common denominator. It's running for student council on a platform of recess all day and ice cream for lunch. Also, most of this isekai slop goes for a faux-medieval setting that conveniently glosses over how much it would have sucked to be a peasant with no modern medicine or sanitation, which just further shows that the appeal of this shit is lowbrow fantasy, not a reaction to societal problems.
>>290273114You sound pretentious desu, kinda insane how you can't comprehend why people want escapism like "I am the hero and a million women love me" or whatever. You can call it trashy or whatever but it has a purpose, people want to indulge. Focusing on the gritty life of a farmer from 1000 years ago is not appealing escapism to many. Instead many prefer that farmer can somehow cure all diseases that plague his land instantly. We already have enough media focusing on the depressing aspects of modern life.
>>290273188No, what's pretentious is acting like the popularity of slop like Re:Zero and MT is because of some thoughtful reaction to housing prices and immigration policy. The majority of the audience for this stuff is either teenagers who weren't buying a house yet anyway or the same turd-worlders being flooded into our countries. It's fine to like trashy escapism, but why not just admit it instead of pretending it's deeper than it is?
>>290273339Well I think it's trashy and I love it, however acting like most anime is above isekai is quite the take. Anime is a pretty lowbrow medium. We get tons of romcom/ boy meets girl or Yuri escapism every season that is very blatant. We get slow life, nothing ever happens and everyone's happy anime every season. We get action, well we always triumph against the bad guys in the end! Anime every season. So what's your point?
>>290273401>Anime is a pretty lowbrow medium.Maybe, but something has to be the lowest of the brows, and most isekai has been exactly that. I don't even blanket hate all isekai, some of it has some charm and life to it, but when the industry has spent the past 10+ years adapting any old slop they can scrounge with the isekai tag from bad amateur writers on a website, there's going to be a lot of garbage. And it's hard not to wish all those resources and staff had been directed towards something else instead.

>When he tries to act like a sociologist diagnosing young people, but he's just a manga artist, he tries to act so detached yet he's so interested in the subject LMAO浅野氏は「現代の若者のリアル」を感覚的に捉える能力には長けているが、政治学者ではない。

>>290274506>>290274526>>290274590gay homo nigger we cannot read this shitolafucking faggot dick lickerstop sucking cocks Asano Inio: “Well, basically, I guess they just don’t want to face reality—there’s this vague sense that they’re blaming others.”I would put it this way: “Not wanting to face reality, neglecting your own abilities, and hoping that other people will somehow take care of everything for you is dependence on others—the ultimate form of passivity.”Asano uses the term taseki (“blaming others”) here, but that is slightly off the mark. After all, we do not know whether “they”—the Narō audience—actually blame or criticize the world, the country, or the government. If we are permitted to generalize broadly about people who read Narō fiction, they do not seem to think much for themselves or take action on their own. Above all, they are not trying to change reality. At least, that is the mentality reflected in male-oriented Narō protagonists. Female-oriented Narō protagonists try to adapt to their circumstances: they fight or befriend the hostile and friendly people around them, build factions, and gradually reshape their reality. Male-oriented Narō protagonists, by contrast, merely sit there with their legs spread, waiting the entire time. Moreover, that demographic often appears to accept whatever the government says at face value. So, to reiterate: this confuses reliance on others (tariki-hongan, or passivity) with blaming others (taseki, or shifting responsibility). The correct term is not “blaming others,” but “reliance on others.”Why, then, did Asano Inio say “blaming others”? It is evidence that his mind has unconsciously been permeated by recent trends in public discourse. “Personal responsibility” and “blaming others” are clearly fashionable expressions of recent years—especially of the past decade—and are terms favored by people of a particular political persuasion.

>>290275161I mean it literally is an argument, if you don't like it don't watch it otherwise you should be okay with people coming into whatever shows threads you like shitting all over the genre and show. Isekai as a few nips mentioned in the comments is mostly done by younger aspiring artists, the jaded ones are often the ones complaining that they aren't up with the times.
>>290275261>I mean it literally is an argument,No it's not. It's at best ad hominem. It's basically shutting down any discussion. If your audience is secure and you're doing well you don't have to engage with your haters at all. But to give them attention with a NUH UH is retarded.
>>290276082Well that's true however every audience is not secure because you always have a couple tards engaging with the haters. Itst he nature of humanity. You can make any engagement bait thread template you want of shonen/seinen/BL/yuri/isekai/sol/romance etc etc and bait the tards by saying how their genre is for children you need to grow up! Or for degenerate losers that don't get laid irl! Same idea now apply it to anything else in the medium. Isekai at it's core is wish fulfillment that was influenced by rpgs/jrpgs from the past and then it morphed into other things. Now if you wanna argue "wish fulfillment bad" okay apply that to every medium though and that's a shakey argument in general when many seek out exactly that. It's bad subjectively to *you* and someone else might say that seinen is edgy slop for people that don't understand what real hardship is.
