For that reason alone I consider it a 9/10, I am genuinely in awe at how much I enjoyed it on my second watching. I wonder how much of ABe himself he put into Mayuko, she's one of my favorite ABe girls by far. NieA can get a little annoying and aggravating, but I like her and I think ABe knew exactly what he was doing with her. People compare it to Yani Neko but aside from superficial similarities (the poverty, as ABe himself noted) I think they are vastly different works.

Ranking them as ABe's work is kind of messy as a result. I'd put Haibane Renmei over NieA_7 and I'm tempted to out Lain over Texhnolyze, but I haven't watched the latter in a long time so I'm not sure. I don't really feel comfortable comparing Lain to Haibane, for example.
