>>290329017>>290331146This all applies to the earliest episodes of the series because Shudo only got as far as like the first ten eps but the Pokemon League is a massive fucking deal in the anime, like Pallet/Masara town is named that way because one of Professor Oak's ancestors placed in the top 1000 trainers and basically became the de facto rulers of the town. The government is apparently heavily invested in turning out skilled Trainers and Champions as fast and as young as they possibly can. It's also apparently way the fuck more difficult, as trainers wash out at an alarming rate, and due to the fact that they're all emancipated adults the moment they start, the ones that wash out are all effectively jobless/homeless/skilless failures. Delia tries to stay positive about Ash's chances but privately she outright knows his dad and even his grand-dad washed out and basically ran off in shame. Gyms are also kinda fucked, the League provides them almost zero support combined with the threat of disbandment after four consecutive losses, so a lot of gyms resort to outright bribing trainers to lose to retain their status and to do other shit to raise money, the shenanigans Misty's sisters get up to at the Cerulean Gym isn't the exception but the norm. The tl;dr is that even in only making Top 16 at the Indigo League Ash would have considered been a walking God among trainersAlso Shudo is a huge fucking Delia/Hanako fan, he spends like most of the first chapter giving her a history and she's basically the second most important person in Pallet Town history because she's hot as shit and appeared in a magazine as a teenager and runs a highly regarded cafe
