They're already sitting on a pile of cash, sticking to their formula would only multiply that regardless of the product's quality. Meanwhile the animation market is saturated and people scarcely care about the individual product. Becoming a cultural phenomenon is more the result of chance and effective marketing (Cyberpunk) so unless they cook something on the cheap it'll be a gamble for them.

KH is one of the JRPGs with genuinely good gameplay in addition to having a big story focus. It’s the best of both worlds.

I kinda lost interest when they stopped having final fantasy characters in their games. That was their main selling point and they just removed it.
