>looking for inspiration for a personal project
>decide to watch some old sci-fi anime
>nausicaä and the valley of the wind and appleseed
>despite the cool aesthetics, both mid with shitty conclusions
>research post watching, both are actually adaptations from manga and they have absolutely nothing to do with the source material

I'm actually so mad, I've only really speedread through Nausicaä after the movie, didn't even know Miyazaki published manga but it honestly feels like he raped his own characters in the movie.

Anyways, do you have a complaint about poor adaptations? Want to vent and prevent anons from losing their time and just read the manga?

Worst adaptation I can think of is fucking EX-Arm. Not only was it terrible, the sheer arrogance of the marketing made me glad it was bad.
>>
>>290338767
Nope, Nausicaä film is great just like the manga.

Nah, the film is a much more simplistic take on man vs nature with Nausicaä just telling people to not be mean to bugs and trust the plan™.

They have different strengths.

Nausicaa anime is like a "greatest hits" album.

I think more than half, maybe a full three quarters of the story from the manga is skipped over. I wish somebody would adapt the rest of it.

Akira is the same deal. Of course, the manga wasn't even finished when the movie came out, so it's more understandable.

Shuna's Journey would make a great film, btw.

A hell of a lot better than the fucking boy and the heron...

Howl's Moving Castle is wildly different from the source novel, especially the characterization of Howl. It's a very pretty movie, but half of it is wasted on a pointless half-baked war subplot that's just hand-waved away at the end.
It's a shame because I think the author's style and humor is well suited to anime, but they stripped most of it away to make a generic fantasy movie.

>Nausicaä just telling people to not be mean to bugs and trust the plan™
valid message though and bears repeating until people are nice to bugs
the stuff with her adopting the god warrior was too thematically complicated to adapt to a movie and wasn't written yet when the movie was produced

>Of course, the manga wasn't even finished when the movie came out,
also true of Nausicaa

Retards, the movie was made by Miyazaki, the author of the very same manga, when the manga wasn't even remotely finished.
So both are their own canon.
I'd even go as far to say that the movie is better because it ended on a highnote and not a jaded slowly encroaching doom from an evermore convoluted manga.

The film is Nausicaa for babies
>>
>>290344408
The movie offers a hope in symbiosis.
The manga dooms humanity out of spite.
>>
>>290344439
Yeah, that sounds like par for Miyazaki.

The movie is a tighter story. The Nausicaa manga has more breathing room and it mostly uses it to furiously wank Nausicaa. The only things the manga does better is Kushana and based Namulith, but it's not enough to save it because everything in the manga is just a side-show to the endless Nausicaa wank.

I love the manga so much, my own rpg setting is heavily based on it (blight lands, lots of cool mosnters based in insects, airships, lots of differente cultures than survive in the blights lands etc).
>>
>>290347512
The movie still has tons of wank so if you don't like the character you're fucked in both versions. At least you get naked Nausicaa in the manga. In the movie I thought her buns were out in the wind but she was just wearing fleshy colored pants.
>>
>>290347729
The setting and aesthetics are cool. I can't take that away from Miyazaki. The problem is that Nausicaa herself is a black hole that drags everything into her orbit and consumes them.
>Whenever Nausicaa is not on screen, all the other characters should be asking, "Where's Nausicaa?"

>>290347926
Yeah, but you're still sitting through less overall volume of jerking off.
