He has good accuracy but shit actual strength behind the attacks, it only went so well because it was a very sharp knife vs a very soft eyeball.

Plus long ranged weapons with a physical element aren't great in a dungeon setting anyway, considering you're often in tight quarters + with several people between you and the target your aiming for. At least with magic you don't have to worry about what the attack might hit as it travels, since it just shows up right on the target.

gekirin/inverted scale is a thing in a lot of fantasy media, though in this case, its kind of an issue of 'good luck getting up there to stab it in the first place'

It's the classic solution to actually killing a dragon without requiring a LOT of stabs. Especially if the dragon's scales are hard.

>>290357051
his sword can barely sever the veins in the neck, by stabbing it can't go deep enough to hit the spine and if it could it would have to hit in between the vertebrae because it sure isn't piercing bone.
>>
>>290357009
If a tiny Laios stabbed you in the throat you would be dead.
>>
>>290357444
Why would he need to hit the spine? I assumed it hit a major artery and it bled out real fast. The sword went like halfway in + seems like Laios moved or slashed after that since theres an actual horizontal cut (not just a hole) as he's falling.

It's time like these where Laios really shows his innate charisma, typical social situations he might not excel at but he has convictions. An aura that means that where he goes people follow, where when he tells you to take that hill you believe that it has meaning.
He's my king.
>>
>>290352280
Nat fucking 20.
>>
>>290357444
Eh the big part of getting stabbed in the throat isn't necessarily the inevitable asphyxiation or bleeding out, but the fact that all of the blood is coming out of the brain and the drop in brain oxygen could cause immediate fainting that you're not going to saving throw wake up from. Actual death can come later.
Fainting was probably more likely to happen than not, since extra sized beasts always have issues with blood pressure, it was just flailing about and might have been slightly winded, and has been forcibly kept awake outside its normal activity cycle due to the kooky magic man
>>
>>290359590
laios is a very smart and competent person wrapped in a lot of layers of poor decision making, poor planning, poor social skills and uncontrollable desires.
>>
>>290353098
It was a one in a million shot, but my understanding of his "non-combatant" is Chilchuck is not a risk taker. He was hired for a specific job, and he'll fight if he has to, but that's not why he's here.

It's important to place firm boundaries with your employers, as they will push you to do more even if they're not intentionally trying to squeeze you. They'll gladly get whatever more out of you they can, cause they too are scrambling to do whatever they can in their jobs.

To be fair, most mages, even ones comparatively much more skilled offensively than Marcille, often only specialize in one type of attack magic (that we see, at least). And as it is, Marcilles specialization is more in forbidden magics anyway.

Explosions are generally just the most straightforward and simple, which are usually favoured over fancy stuff you'll barely use. Honestly there's only two other mages in this series who I think would've been fit to hit the inverse scale/otherwise kill the dragon themselves with their magic. (Flamela and Mithrun)
>>
>>290361193
One detail I like about the demon is that as it grows in power, it's symbolized by resembling animals higher up on the food chain.
Starts off as a plant and becomes an insect at its weakest. At a high point in power, it's a pig (omnivore). Then it falls again and is seen as a sheep and a goat (herbivore). When we see it it's a lion (carnivore). And in its final form, it takes over the body of Laios, a human (nature's ultimate predator).

Idk, your post reminded me of that.

>>
>>290352280
Probably the single most impressive martial feat in Dungeon Meshi, done by a guy who explicitly says not to count on him in a fight
>>
>>290362130
To be fair everyone did their part.
- Laios for not telling his team about kensuke
++ Laios for creating a plan on the spot and actually pulling it off
+ Chilchuck for blinding the dragon in one eye
- Senshi for not taking good care of his axe
+ Senshi for bringing dagger and pot
+ Senshi for retrieving Kensuke
Marcille is just nothing but postivies after the first few chapters.
>>
>>290363613
Had Kensuke done it’s job the first time all that effort and damage would have been spared. They nearly lost because of that dumb sword they should just cook and eat the thing inside it already.
>>
>>290363613
To be fair, I don't think Senshi taking care of his axe would have enabled it to go through dragon scale.
I'd also give Marcille the tiniest of minuses for misreading the others and blowing up the bridge at the wrong time. But it's outweighed gargantuanly by the pluses. She's the only reason Laios could get into killing range and why they didn't all die from the rubble.
>>
>>290364217
The point was if Senshi took better care of the axe then it wouldnt have shattered instantly and they would have still had a weapon to attack the dragons weakpoint with.

Marcille has shown the largest array of magic in this manga, including protection spells (that saved their ass) and paralyzation spells (also saved their ass). Without her waterwalking spells, they wouldn't have made it to the dragon either.

It's weird to me that he doesn't act like it
I know he's an adventurer but you'd expect him to have some trouble with back problems or what have you

The only evidence of his seniority is his grey hairs and that was dropped very early
>>
>>290367615
Isn’t he more like mid thirties if you convert his age? Tallmen and half foots only have a ten year lifespan average difference, and even that is potentially affected by their cultures lifestyles/lack of access to cleanliness and certain healthcare/health knowledge that the longer lived races do. (Laios and Chil both do confirm that on rare occasions both of their races can live up to around 100.)

I think the official TL tried to make Laios mutter to himself as if in a delirious state. "have Falin reteach you recovery magic" as in "have Falin reteach me magic" referring to the page where Laios tried to learn healing, actually I'm not sure if that panel happened yet.

Expelling hosts is a spell we know exists since Falin does the same thing as an adult (I think it was a flashback during the sorbet chapter?)

Also Falin has the apparently innate skill to be able to see + talk to spirits anyway (as does Laios, later on after he's practised magic a bit), so she probably just heard the guys wishes about the ring through his ghost. Actually, pretty sure Mithrun also mind-read Thistle during their fight just by touching him then too, so its possible that rudimentary mind-reading magic exists here.

This page it's pretty good but MAN do I love how they adapted Senshi's reaction in the anime
>>
>>290375132
>you'd wander foreign lands and save people in trouble
laios writing the sequel
>>
>>290376902
It was too strong so it couldn't find any walls tall enough to scale.
>>
>>290375356
whenever Kui draws Marcille's eyes like she does in the last panel it makes me uncomfortable
>>
>>290375390
the leg looks much better here, just torn. In the anime it looked severed as though with a blade.
>>
>>290375356
Marcille defending Laios from trashtalk is nice. Pity we didn't get it in the anime, since they omitted the recovery of the leg bit.
>>
>>290375177
It's real cute that you have the wisdom and inner peace to move on to the next life happily sis but no fucking chance
>>
>>290378085
If being a ghost wasn't actively tortuous he wouldn't wander around saying "help me" and "take it off" over and over and trying to steal the body of little boys just a few days after becoming one.
>>
>>290376902
It was never the "dragon's vessel." I'm the only "dragon" we need
>>

>>
>>290378616
>>290375177
I suppose that was Falin's soul talking to Laios then? And not just him dreaming?
>>
>>290375390
It itching and scarring implies that marcille just kinda gets close enough, you'd think there'd be issues like needing to break it in again for a while to get back to normal like she tied your shoelaces a little too tight
>>
>>290377777
Digits of monster knowledge.
>>
>>290378719
the itching I assumed is her not doing any kinda of antiseptic magic, and just hyper charging the body's healing process to fight all the bacteria sealed inside there
>>
>>290378808
I doubt Marcille fails to do anything that would be autistic book-learning procedure. It's more like Falin being better at it is about subtle skill and empathy that Marcille can't slow down to bother with.
>>
Something the crossed my mind: it'd be cool if Laios' knowledge of the metal molluscs could be applicable in becoming a renewable source of armor and weapons. The suits were already mistaken to be high quality steel, and now Kensuke has proven capable of killing a dragon. It'd be interesting if they could cultivate these creatures, and especially if they could somehow influence how they form the armor (because otherwise, smithed armor would still be superior due to being fitted to its wearer)

I wonder if he does exactly that with his kingdom of monsters at the end

You get numbed out when you go under surgery, magic healing "is" basically surgery
Marcille is totally in the wrong here, she's like that guy who had the record for having a surgery with a 300% mortality rate

>>

>>290375390

Does he just have bonkers pain tolerance, or is Marcille giving him morphine magic and not the others?

The guy was either cold out or she actually took her time healing him.
Don't let the yuri shitters know about about it.
>>
>>290379419
Maybe you could make a mannequin of a person's body out of a cheap material like wood or straw and somehow encourage the mollusks to grow around it.
Although I'm not sure how they'd get the flesh out of the armor.

You're schizo, but I get it from the angle.
Hanged Man has zero relation to this though, since Laios isn't helpless at all to influence the outcome of anything.

that morbid humor is pretty in-line with the rest of the manga, so not really. Plus it plays into both Laios's and Marcille's personalities and interests a lot.

That guy was also in an era where you wanted the amputation done FAST to avoid complications. Some fucker dying of shock because they watched him work isn't on him.

>>290393500
>enable resurrection outside the dungeon
Or it's the ring writ large. Same spell but smaller area. He could've been a near-immortal mercenary if he knew and had a qt healer gf but instead it worked more like a curse.

Why yes. I believe healing magic should hurt as much as possible because it is only natural how could you tell?
