So the old guy Aramaki is the boss and quite good at his job and politics. Motoko is the leader with completely artificial body for battle but what exactly is the shtick of the others. Batou got a lot of screen time but is it because he his high in command or because he is funny? The noncyborg guy is from the police and probably in the story to have some friction with the oddballs in the team as just the normal one but the others seem just wacky?

Like how the manga safehouse where batou takes motoko's head is covered in mold, and there are multiple bodies throughout the manga that are super decomposed with mushrooms growing out of them. The only anime analogue I can remember is one body in standalone complex having a mushroom on it iirc, and that's kind of a shame because it's a cool visiualIt's not just a cool visual it's foreshadowing for the Net, and the concept of life emerging from chaos.There are plenty of times where the manga shows you a central hub surrounded by branching tendrils and I'm pretty sure the fungus is supposed to remind you of that. Even the sexbots are named after mushrooms
