The remaster is good, considering the source material. Apparently, the original film was not well preserved, which also resulted in whatever garbage material got provided for Discotek's BD. For the current Japanese BD, you still see some dirt and occasional damage, but the image is clear with strong colors--it's not a DNR job.

From the press release, GKIDS also has the JP-audio version of the movie, so it should be a pretty good release.

I both love and hate this movie because I side with Meier slightly more than D, being a Goslingfag myself. It's hard to watch and needlessly depressing. Unless they have some kind of waifu resurrection machine on the moon. Also, I felt some events were a little wishy washy on what crimes Meier may or may not have committed, like taking out the posse or infecting the villagers. What happen? Was it justified? For normal people I mean, not terminally lonely weebs like me.

watch Near Dark if you haven't

This is cool. I haven't watched this in probably 15 years & I live in a big city so it'll definitely be playing near me.
Still surprising to me that after so many years D never got any anime after this movie, but I'm glad at least the books got published in English because they are fun.

Yeah, well, it's worse in the book where It's clear Meier and Leila just want to be together and it's made clear that Meier is terrified of D. And the Marcus Brothers are absolute cunts. And then at the end, after Leila is killed, as Meier stops to mourn her, D stops his attack. But then one of the surviving Marcus brothers snipes Meier and kills him and D just walks away with a "well shucks, this sucks" attitude.
It was very feels bad.

Okay, it's just been at least 15 years since I read it so I don't recall everything. I mostly remember that it wasn't nearly as enjoyable as the movie.
But then pretty much all the D books follow the same formula of "D wanders into [place] that has a problem. Locals ask for help with [problem]. D is too cool for school and says no and tries to move on. [problem] ends up involving some vampires. D reluctantly solves problem and kills local vampire, moves on to next [place]. Oh, and everyone, regardless of gender wants to fuck D.

I haven't been to a cinema in more than a decade but I'd probably watch that. Hopefully I don't die in a cloud of vapesmoke thrown out by all the normalfag zoomers that will crawl all over this once they discover it, unless it's not got enough JRPG elements to keep attention off TikTok for more than 10 minutes.

If you look at the elements of it, without radical a redesign (far from impossible for modern westoid writers & directors/netflix lot), it's pretty dated according to most modern normalfags.

Male suffering represented? Adventure travel? One long series of fights? Even the strong woman character is actually a damsel in distress? You've got to be joking, this is the current year +10 after and problematic story elements like these are out of fashion.

Hell yeah, this is one of my all time favorite anime movies. Pure art from start to finish. Hope it's a quality remaster
