The funny thing about that shitty episode full of monologues and padding is that Bleach fans really just a delusional bunch for thinking Orihime was ever good before a single episode where she tries to kill herself proves her haters wrong. If I were a Orihimefag, I would actually be pissed at Kubo that it took him so long for him to do something and it still boils down to Orihime being both Kubo's waifu and his favorite punching bag.This episode is just Kubo damage controlling so that people would feel sympathy for his waifu and make them like her after years of being a complete deadweight, so to me, this episode is just cheap drama for shock factor (picrel is literally what happens next after Orihime's "sacrifice"). In Soul Society, she's basically just a convenient tool to keep the characters alive but ultimately fails to contribute very much to the overall plot. Then in the Arrancar arc, her self-esteem issues are brought to the forefront and she's kidnapped by the villains purely to force Ichigo to go to Hueco Mundo. Speaking of Ichigo, their overall character interactions up to this point were almost non-existent and Ichigo only begins to realize she exists after she's kidnapped. It's hardly the most convincing romance ever but I'd argue that this isn't even the most prominent of her issues as a character. Even when Ichigo is dying against Ulquiorra, she didn't do anything or step up to defend him and heal him, she was just screaming for her from Ichigo. Naruto did that scene far better with twice the impact because Hinata stepped up even when she couldn't win.
