Just finished the manga today because one of my friends twisted my arm into reading it, mostly because they desperately wanted someone to vent to. I didn't know anything going in, including the whole craze around the ending, so I read it with an open mind. It took me about two months, working through multiple volumes whenever I had the time.Part 1 was great. Part 2 started okay, if a bit aimless, before slowly declining and then falling into a bottomless pit right around the Chainsaw Man Church arc. The plot became obsessed with introducing MYSTERIOUSSS characters who dick around and act friendly, right up until Fujimoto needs to contrive some action or drama sequence for a "shocking" reveal that no one over the age of 5 would actually be surprised by.

Part 2 sucks because Denji as a character exhausted his creative potential in part 1 and because Fuji narratively married Asa completely to revolve around him her character suffered by the virtue of set up itself. Asa and Yoru have an excellent dynamic, it's drowned out by sloppy romcom and fight scene which are gags at best and boring in hindsight. That's the tragedy of part 2, aside from Denji, every other character had so much more to say and Fujimoto couldn't imagine taking the focus away from his self insert. I don't expect normalfags to hate it, they're all sorry people who are into self pity and shallow romance. There is no real tragedy, Fujimoto is aware of that, that's why the ending is a nothing burger, Denji gets nothing in return for all the bullshit he does. And Asa can move on freely. You could argue he felt ashamed of the dogshit story he wrote so that's why it ended this way. I'm not here to debate, so if you're reading it so far, ask yourself "why?"
