Now that Railgun is over, what are your personal plans with this franchise? Me? Gonna gather up the physical english copies of every series, Railgun, Astral Buddy, Accelerator, Mental Out, and Index. Once the Index manga is done I'm washing hands of this franchise.

Pic related, just got this volume.

I'm going to wait 10 years before I read the final chapter like I did with Naruto. That way it will always exist for me until I read it.

As much as a shitshow as it was, a reboot would have been worse. Imagine index 3 pacing but season fucking 1 again that ends with Oriana as the final boss and then 10 years of nothing.

will item make mugino popular or will everyone only care about frenda and saiai?
>>
>>290472009
>Now I’m curious, how bad is shaman king? Is it opm season 3 level bad? Never really cared to watch it.
Shaman King 2021 was bad due to its pacing.
They covered the entire manga from start to finish (300 chapters) in just 50 episodes. That is 6 chapters per episode on average. This made the pacing near incomperhensible. Neither people who read the source mateiral nor anime onlies liked it (sounds familiar?).
>>
>>290475011
ITEM ln/manga highlighting Mugino's cute retard fuckup side has done wonders for her popularity amongst most Raildex fans who can read.
The anime will definitely give a notable boost to her popularity amongst the illiterate, but Mikoto levels of love just ain't happening (ever). The franchise is old now and Mugi missed the most of the anime's golden years so she's gotta take what she can get.

I do expect that Frenda stocks will also shoot up with the anime (especially once anime-onlys learn that she has a mini-me). Kinuhata/Takitsubo are quieter so casuals aren't gonna go nuts for them overnight just because of the new anime.
>>
>>290476448
So it’s an Index 3 level failure. 6 manga chapters per episode, how does that compare to Index 3’s three episodes per volume?
>>
>>290475011
I’m 99 percent sure that Item only exists because of how unreasonably popular Frenda is. Mugino might gain some popularity, but the majority of the pie already belongs to Frenda.
>>
>>290477896
It’s not impossible for Saiai and Takitsubo to get more popular, I just don’t think they’re going to reach frenda’s.

>>
>>290478932
>6 manga chapters per episode, how does that compare to Index 3’s three episodes per volume?
It's hard to compare a weekly manga with a light novel, so instead I'll say this:
Imagine covering the entirety of OT in just 50 episodes. That is 22-24 volumes dependings of weather you count SS books or not. That would result in every single book being covered in just 2 episodes.
>>
>>290484532
To add on top of that:
Imagine covering WW3 arc in 6 episodes. All of it.

mugino is cuter than misaka. mugino is sexier than misaka. mugino has a more interesting lackey group than misaka. so why is misaka so much more popular? just because her arc came earlier so she could start building up fans sooner?

Maybe it’s because of OT15 having her kill Frenda, then having railgun s exist before their original debut gets adapted.

>>
>>290448121
isn't it funny how Railgun gets collabs with everything and new seasons while Index is rotting in hell? Whatever happened there?
>>
>>290491462
Index III killed the anime, Imaginary Fest shut down two years ago and it's easier to whore out the Railgun characters in collabs. The Railgun manga having already ended means that a few more seasons of the anime plus the Item spin-off anime are far lesser time commitments than adapting more Index as well
>>
>>290491462
That happens when the main series anime gets adapted and treated like shit.

>>
>>290448121
Is the main story even worth following anymore? I stopped reading around the Kamisato arc. From the threads I see from time to time I gather that Kamachi has started to pay more attention to the older characters (Stiyl and Himegami being relevant, Lola getting rekt etc.) but the actual series is no closer to finishing

And whose brilliant idea was it to make the ITEM anime (of course Frenda is still alive in it) before Mental Out?

>>290495774
>Lola getting rek
Touma killing someone and then arguing with 2 (two) different people that she had to die was not on my 2026 bingo card.
>>
>>290475011
It’ll at least increase the amount of artwork on her, including rule 34 artwork.
>>
>>290495774
Well, you see, a Mental Out anime is semi-dependent on Astral Buddy being adapted first, which itself is semi-dependent on NT11 being adapted first, which itself is semi-dependent on NT10 being adapted first, which is more than semi-dependent on NT being adapted at all.

Moreover, Mental Out hasn't even finished its first arc yet, even though it's been going for 5 years now. In hindsight, it feels almost miraculous that Railgun got an adaptation after only two years.

Imagine if the ITEM manga was the original source material. At its current rate, it'd take 20 fucking years to get enough material for a single cour. The three and a half year turnaround that we're getting honestly feels impressively fast for this series these days.

I'm starting to think that Kamachi chose to write ITEM all by himself precisely because he knew he needed a new Railgun-like with potential for more than one anime season per fucking decade. Index anime was fucked; Fuyukawa was busy being on crack writing the longest, shittest arc of all time, so Railgun wasn't getting a new season any time soon; he could tell Mental Out was going to take a million years to be anime-ready; and adapting Nectar arc just wasn't worth the trouble. To get a new anime happening, he needed a new LN, and it had to be ITEM, because it might as well be similar to Railgun, the one series in this fatass franchise that makes all the fucking money.
>>
>>290498674
Iissue with ITEM is that people like Railgun because Misaka has an interesting powerset to the point where she wins each arc in a different way, Misaka herself is a good person without being a moral fag and most importantly she had lots of fans from the LNs due to being first girl and the Sisters arc.
Mugino has none of that Kamachi absolutely should have just given Misaka some LN's
>>
>>290499196
>Mugino has none of that
but
>>290488006
>>
>>290499196
Misaka and Mugino are both electromasters and can do similar enough things though?
>>
>>290498674
>Mental Out hasn't even finished its first arc yet, even though it's been going for 5 years now.
It feels more like a saga to me, the “tokiwadai election saga.” You could technically separate it into arcs like, “tokiwadai election intro,” “the previous generation,” and “tokiwadai election continues.” But that’s just how I see it.
>>
>>290498674
I always felt like NT11 is standalone enough to be adapted as a movie out of order or something.
>>
>>290500116
Yeah if you get rid of the pocket onahole saying like two lines at the end, then NT11 could be adapted standalone.
The main problem with adapting it as a movie is that it's kinda barebones. NT11 as-is isn't really movie-suitable. Kamachi would have to give the plot structure another pass to make it better for a anime movie format.
Restructuring the arrangement of the past/present stuff a bit would be a good idea. More action and Kamisaki scenes would be wise. Hell, steal some Biohacker scenes to help with the setup if you need to. You'd also need to reintroduce Shokuhou's character for the Index side, since NT was her proper introduction. Also, introducing her main clique girls properly would be wise. All the setup/payoff has to be self-contained if you're gonna dodge NT to do it. Also don't let Nishikiori direct it.

This, Fre//nda memes, and leaning more into her death with Fremea's edition to the cast. Frenda had one scene in OT15 and is off screen the rest of the volume until Mugino drags her corpse in. She was definitely a throw away character at the time.

It's an astral plane projection that represents the size of Misaki's lust for Touma. I'm kidding, it's from an (apparently very popular) multimedia card game ala magic the gathering called Duel Masters that Railgun T is having yet another collabs with. I didn't have a clue it existed until today.

Yeah, the beauty of light novels is they are designed to be leisurely read in barely an afternoon. I finished the anime, started reading roughly when NT8 dropped, and caught up in 2 weeks. Granted there were less volumes and I generally like reading and was pretty invested. If someone doesn't have one or the other then I could see it taking a year. >>
>>290500634
When's the release?
>>
>>290524020
I think one of the big problems is the story moved so slow due to the monthly release but also stopped going anywhere. Level Upper, Sisters and Daihaseisai all had a throughline, Network, Sisters, Gensei, after that, 3.5 years spent on a rogue android, another 3.5 years spent on Jailbreaker which may have been a good start to the next major plotline but then 5 years spent in past arc hell. The only way to move forward on Jailbreakers start would have been another 4-7 year commitment.
If after Daihaseisai they started planning the next 3 arcs all with connecting tissue so by the end of the third there is a big conclusion, people would not have been unhappy with the ending. Level Upper to Daihaseisai has 7 years and it was an amazing run, Dreamranker to Past was 12 years and it never felt like they found their stride. They needed something, an overarching enemy / problem to dig their teeth into.
Personally, I think abandoning the Sisters as a throughline is what tanked them, the last arcs should have dealt more with her friends and family meeting the sisters, helping the sisters to understand humanity better and Misaki and Dolly being honest with Mikoto about their feelings.
>>
>>290525605
September 10th.
>>
>>290525718
Honestly, what pissed me off the most when railgun ended, was that we never got any answers for what happened in Jailbreaker. Why the dragon left, why uiharu could just do that, what happened to the ninja girl, if the dragon is alive and returned to Touma.
>>
>>290527643
Thinking anything dragon related would be explained is the height of folly. They prematurely blew their load when they made it more than a one off thing at the end of the daihaseisai.
>>
>>290527851
I’m not asking for an explanation for the reason of their existence, I’m just asking why it left and if it returned. Nothing else. The dragon is the entire reason for the plot happening.

I absolutely agree about the series losing a lot of steam after Daihasensai because it didn't read like it was building towards anything anymore, and that's something I've argued myself for years. The series still had good moments and introduced a lot of potentially interesting characters that weren't fully explored, but like you said, it lacked that connective tissue.

>I think abandoning the Sisters as a throughline is what tanked them, the last arcs should have dealt more with her friends and family meeting the sisters, helping the sisters to understand humanity better and Misaki and Dolly being honest with Mikoto about their feelings.
See, not that I disagree but that would have entail a considerable shift on the status quo that clashes with a limitation every single one of the spinoffs have, which is that it it can't progress relationships or events beyond what's shown in the main series, and the clones becoming somewhat of a public knowledge only happened in Genesis Testament.

Technically both, but the lion's share goes to the editor since part of his job is making the series marketable. Kamachi likely doesn't give a flying fuck and would pick up and drop characters whenever. I bet if the editors weren't breathing down his neck Mikoto and Misaki's appearances would stop by 80%.

are those characters actually popular though? the point I was getting at is that railgun fans always say they like railgun because of the main girl cast and it's always being shilled in ads and collabs. on the other hand even though index seems like it has girl characters it could market itself with, it doesn't seem like there has ever been much attempt made at it. I mentioned above 15 because all of the characters that actually get pushed are younger than that. did the publishers just decide that the only people they care to market to are ones who lust for middle schoolers?

>are those characters actually popular though?
They are. But you never gave any parameters to what you consider to be "popular", and that's mighty convenient for when you want to move the goalpoast.

>railgun fans always say they like railgun because of the main girl cast and it's always being shilled in ads and collabs. on the other hand even though index seems like it has girl characters it could market itself with, it doesn't seem like there has ever been much attempt made at it. there has ever been much attempt made at it. Well, you should know that the marketing of merchandise and collaborations, which seems to be your new standard, is very dependant on anime exposure to sell the IP, but unfortunately and due to several different factors the Index anime (especially the last 2 seasons) hasn't been as successful as Railgun's 2nd and 3rd, and that popularity is what drives Railgun to be "shilled" rather than the other way around. Plus, if you actually followed the franchise you'd know that attempts to market the Index characters (including those older girls) were made, and were even successful to a degree. Like it's been already mentioned Kanzaki remained very popular for years, and used to be Mikoto's main competition before the rise of Misaki and Othinus, and even just a few years ago the To Aru gacha polls were evidence that Kanzaki still has a pretty large if unattended fanbase.

>did the publishers just decide that the only people they care to market to are ones who lust for middle schoolers?
No, but there wouldn't be anything wrong with that because this series primary target are school boys and girls around that age, and people who started reading this series around that age.

I never thought I’d see her go to such lengths just to get Mikoto to molest her
>>
>>290537430
Well, I very much doubt that the editors have that much influence over their appearances. It’s obvious that Kamachi’s dick loves the misamisa/Misaki scenes, and if I remember correctly, years ago he said that Mikoto was the easiest character for him to write, and in fact I think that these days he often uses her simply to fill pages.

>>290539541
>implying it's not Misaki borrowing her pjs after a night of frenemy passion
>>
>>290540342
There is no way in hell the editors don't contribute to their appearances. I don't think he dislikes using them, but it's so predictable that it feels manufactured so they can get their color illustrations. Like a cop with a ticket quota.

It’s from the upcoming alternate universe spinoff in 2332, where Misaka is friendly with Shokuhou and part of her clique and makes her dress up.
>>
>>290533153
>See, not that I disagree but that would have entail a considerable shift on the status quo that clashes with a limitation every single one of the spinoffs have, which is that it it can't progress relationships or events beyond what's shown in the main series, and the clones becoming somewhat of a public knowledge only happened in Genesis Testament.
Yes but Daihaseisai arcs last chapter was mid 2014 and really they should have been planning the basic direction of the next arc in 2013 or even 2012. Railgun should have staked their claim to Sisters content then when questions like do her friends and family know were ambiguous in the novel. Not much would have to change in the upcoming novels if her friends and family knew ahead of time, same with Mikoto knowing about Dolly.

>Reminder, Yuiitsu is most likely dead, but her status wasn’t confirmed.
The biggest IF imaginable, if she comes back, she’ll probably be the Kamisato group’s punching bag/guinea pig.
>>
>>290546427
If that were to happen, I whish the punchline was getting Yuiitsu into lewder and lewder situations.
>>
>>290546982
Apparently there’s a tentacle girl in the Kamisato faction. “Milcah“
So, Yuiitsu is getting fucked by tentacles as punishment for being a Kihara.

>Fukiyose.
If this franchise was an adult series, she would be one of the first characters that Touma would fuck.
>>
>>290548632
Excellent.

>>290549842
If this was an adult series, Touma would have already slept with most of his harem and would be in a semi official relationship with Index, Misaki, Othinus and Misaka.
>>
If the Index franchise was made today, it would probably be a power fantasy that would have Touma use the dragon king constantly, have his personality be a mix between him and Accelerator, and have him fuck the female character he saves or antagonist he beats.
>>
>>290551287
Honestly, after all this time I feel like it would be fine for Kamachi to have one series where his MC is just pure power fantasy instead of a useless fuck that manages to turn things around in the final hour

Not a big fan of her in particular, though Mikoto is great for it. Though hardly being older than a loli herself, it does miss some of the charm...
>>
>>290551722
Does the Beatrice and boo boo series count? Also, I feel like Kamachi just likes underdogs more than everyone else on the planet.

Unfortunate that we’ll never see her again.

That would require having the railgang to eventually be important in the main series, in where only Kuroko is somewhat important.

Probably not, but hey, it's to have known and lost and all that.
