You are missing a lot of context today. SP was a multi-media adaptation of a series of poll-based magazine shorts. In the original run, NagisaxTamao was THE ship bar none and had virtually no contest. The fact that the 'onee-sama' was deemed the more appealing LI by editors when it was turned into a non-reader driven story was both informed by her just being the conventional yuri love interest but also by it being a genuine twist to the japanese audience.
Obviously to anyone seeing it now, or really anyone who only knows it as some yuri anime/ln it doesn't come across as surprising, because it is the conventional choice.

But thats true. StoraPi was from a shounen magazine, thats why Tamao was the favorite. When it was adapted it was aimed at the perceived broader yuri audience, which was Marimite readers back then. So ShizumaxNagisa was the perceived more appealing couple.

Jokes aside, I'm with you on not pretending any yuri is less yuri than the other, but obviously shoujo yuri etc. is a very real thing. Because yuri has different influences and editors and writers think in those terms.

DESU:

Did Marimite ever have a large female audience to begin with despite being published as shoujo? I seem to recall the author saying that the anime brought in more guys.
>>
>>290475289
Marimite had a near exclusive female following. It was notable for having a unusually large male following, for a shoujo light novel.
>>
>>290475330
>Marimite had a near exclusive female following. It was notable for having a unusually large male following
Proof? Because these seem contradictory. If it's exclusive, then how can they compare the male fanbase size.
>>
>>290475410
Are you retarded? A 10% male following is still unusually large for something with usually 1%. But 10% is still very little.
>>
>>290475448
If it's x%, where are the polls?
>>
>>290475448
Its a male gaze schizo, of course he's retarded
>>
>Using male gaze unironically
I see we are at tranny hours right now.
>>
>>290475448
10% male fanbase for most popular shoujo sounds low. I mean, popular stuff like Precure and Apothecary Diaries, Bookworm have 30-40% male fanbases), so it's probably around that mark.

>>290475485
I'm not even talking about "male gaze"? I'm saying that it would be extremely hard to tell the difference between a 10% and 1% male fanbase. Yaoi has a 10% male fanbase, just as an example.
>>
>>290475508
Anon, you can make any distinction you want when you are making up numbers and statistics, it doesn't really matter.

>>
>>290475528
You're the one who was claiming it had a near exclusive fanbase, which I granted to be 10% . I just asked for proof and made a comparisons to other popular shoujo stuff which does have a more balanced male-female ratio.
>>
>>290475550
>comparing a shoujo work with an unusually large male following to another shoujo work with an unusually large male following
>>
>>290475554
The 10% figure was an illustration of how something can have a notable male following while being overwhelmingly female demographic. Which you disingeniously pretended was somehow a contradictory concept, because apparently you feel no shame pretending non-functional levels of retardation to not admit you're just wrong.
>>
>>290475578
Marimite was 30 years ago.
>>
NTA but it's an obvious contradiction in how it was originally worded, yes you could infer you probably meant in this way looking at your previous post, but it was in fact badly worded and it would be nice if you admitted your mistake and said you were sorry for making anon confused.
>>
>>290475578
Leaving aside how much demographics changed since Marimite was relevant, its also within shoujo a wholly different kind of story from precure or kusugoto
>>
>>290475599
>Which you disingeniously pretended was somehow a contradictory concept
When someone says
>near exclusive female following"
and
>notable for having a unusually large male following
in one sentence, it clearly sounds contradictory no matter how you look at it.
>>
>>290475639
>but it's an obvious contradiction in how it was originally worded
Your inability to parse an english sentence is not other peoples fault.
>>
>>290475639
NTA but its very clear how having any amount of male following is unusually many for a work expected to have none. Which was the case for marimite.
>>
>>290475651
Lol, just to be a man and accept you made a small mistake dude.
>>
Making a reader app for phones that doesn't resort to mobileshit is pretty hard, but I think I got it. UX is the main difficulty because there are even more things that can go wrong or doesn't feel intuitive. Is it worth it to implement like, custom imports for series as .cbz for example
>>
>>290475599
I understand that it's theoretical. My point was that most shoujo does in fact have a 10% male audience, so that would be typical. Maybe you justify it as an 80-20 fanbase, but a 70% seems to be pushing the line of "near exclusive".

>>290475622
CCS, Sailor Moon, and Utena had unexpectedly large male audiences too.
>>

>>
>>290475691

It wasn't unexpected for any of those, because they aimed at that broad appeal to begin with. Transforming heroines are already a shounen influence.
>>
>Let's shitpost how Shizuma was a shoujo victory
>Anons easily prove this wrong
>Ok let's talk about a shoujo works instead, how about we talk about one of the least yuri works ever made from 30 years ago

>>

Who says this doesn't have a broad appeal? If anything, the insular nature of shoujo works means a work avoiding those tropes is going to make it more appealing to a non-shoujo audience.

>>290475810
The original novel is shoujo.
>>
>>290475756
Shizuma was made the primary love interest because the Marimite-like was the proven yuri model at the time. Thats just a fact and the anime tried, like all anime, to reach out beyond the original audience.
This wasn't disproven, because its a fact both obvious and documented.
Marimite is the reason we have a yuri genre now and its undoubtedly yuri, no matter how much this makes you seethe in gender and culture war autism.

>Shizuma was made the primary love interest because the Marimite-like was the proven yuri model at the time. Thats just a fact and the anime tried, like all anime, to reach out beyond the original audience.
Amazing how literally everything you just said is pure headcanon, not only that but you are even going further and specifically implying Shizuma was meant to appeal to the female audience, laughable.

>Marimite is the reason we have a yuri genre now and its undoubtedly yuri, no matter how much this makes you seethe in gender and culture war autism.
Also something I never said, I said the series has very little yuri content and it was written 30yrs ago and the intention of the post was to make clear you had to backtrack this much to find something to continue sperging about your mental illness around "female readership".

>Nothing happens in it. You are welcome to discuss it if you like, but what about?
And what has you talked about Strawberry Panic or even Marimite so far? Nothing.

Someone had to win, it doesn't mean the other choices don't pander to the magazine's audience you fucking retard, every single one of them did (and I don't mean the poll's options in this case), the authors just choose what they felt fit better the narratives being written.

Even the original Class S works had a large male audience.

>after the trip she vowed to no longer write about women "who cried a lot and simply endured their miserable lot in life"
We still have that, just gayer.

Your whole meltdown is so goddamn funny because you are the only one here sperging about male and female audiences, while everyone else talks about genre conventions and influences.
Especially when the while subject is works that have cross demographic appeal. You are so psychotically fixated on your pre-programmed talking points you just have a completly different conversation from everyone else.

>hmm I wrote this girl for the female audience
>I should write the next girl for the male audience
And other things /au/ really believes yuri authors say.

You know, instead of engaging seriously with his retarded argument you could have just called him a tranny and moved on.

Can you not tell the difference between the flashback, the present, and the symbolic?
