An interpretation of what Kaiten means for the rest of the series and what happens next that I liked
>>
>>290570619
>we're reduced to literal "pick the headcanon you like"
Absolute disaster of an ending and everything will be disproven by the next movie anyway.
>>
>>290552989
>3.33 had a camrip up within 24 hour
I find that unlikely considering 3.33 isn't the name of the version that was in theatres.
>>
Is a sequel confirmed?
>>
>>290570841
Movie literally ends with a "Madoka will return" post credits screen.
So no, not yet, it'll probably take a decade.
>>
>3 full days have passed and there still hasn’t even been a partial camrip uploaded
Literally why? It shouldn’t be that difficult to get a recording using one of those micro camera for creepshot
>>
>>290570796
That's how all open endings that barely explain themselves tend to be like, right?
>>290570841
No but there's an mid credit scene setting up the next one
And both Yuuki and Saito have talked about what they want from the next one
And it was marketed as the start of a new chapter
And it's doing better in the Japanese box office than Rebellion was by this point in time (even including that the Yen is now worth less domestically than it was in 2013)
So you tell me

That was Rebellion. Rebellion allowed to make many headcanons. Kaiten broke a lot of headcanons and some fans are mad.

>>
>>290571661
That's actually true, Rebellion's ending in itself was very ambiguous.
>>
>>290571661
>That was Rebellion
Please stop pushing this retarded take. Rebellion is extremely explicit about what happens in its ending. It allows a lot of possibilities for what happens *afterwards*, but with Kaiten we literally don't actually know what happened at the end yet. It's not the same thing at all. You can't have a proper discussion about the plot of a movie, or any piece of media, when it's this unclear what the plot actually is. And because a sequel will happen this isn't a case of an open ending left up to interpretation. There is a correct answer they will choose, but they did a disastrous job at communicating what it is. You don't need Kaiten to understand Rebellion but you will need Movie 5 to actually understand Kaiten's ending, and that's idiotic.

Anyways i wonder if is explained why Sayaka supported Devil Akumura to take back Madoka?
This is important to me because Sayaka had a mission and now joining the other side sounds a bit like betrayal.
I heard that Madoka looked different so maybe that was the reason? I'm confused about that part.
Or was just support out of pity?
>>
>>290571732
Literally what fucking part of Rebellion's ending is ambiguous? By the end it's very clear that
>The girls are back after Homura swallowed the universe in her barrier
>Sayaka had her memory erased
>Madoka too but her may come back
>Homura is still in charge
>Kyubey is her bitch
Anything else that isn't directly addressed isn't really relevant either. Meanwhile in Kaiten we know that
>Homura is on a bench
>Qb is in the library
We don't know how much Homura remembers. We don't know what powers she retained. We don't know what Madoka chose to do. We don't know the current state of the world. It's nowhere near comparable.

I still think we are somehow missing the flower scene equivalent of Kaiten. Something that makes what Madoka did, whatever she did, make sense with Homura being happy about it.
Homura being happy even after Madoka leaves and everyone, including Walp, telling her to go after Madoka needs to mean something
>>
>>290571940
>We don't know how much Homura remembers. We don't know what powers she retained
We don't even know IF she forgot anything and IF she lost any of her powers. She still has her ring so it seems that she is still Homucifer somehow, at least until Madoka leaves with the LoC
>>
>>290571967
Kaiten properly being in our hands will remind us all that normies are fucking retarded and they missed something obvious, yes.
>>290571921
People made a lot of HomuSaya fanart so the franchise will now pair them as friends (without ever committing to anything more) the same way SayaKyoko being popular after the series made them add that scene in Rebellion of them holding hands.
>>
>>290571845
I'm talking about headcanons, not necessarily the ending but obviously the ending are part of it.
Rebellion had so many references in all parts of the movie that many people made a lot of headcanons.
>>
Either way it's pretty clearly not meant to be an (entirely) happy ending
Just listen to
>>290571485
or even just >>290571677
And tell me that Madoka is happy about what she's doing
>>
>>290571940
>Anything else that isn't directly addressed isn't really relevant either.
This is dishonest. Not because is relevant for you means it's not relevant for everyone. As for me the mystery behind Walpurgis and origin of witches was very important.
>>
>>290572049
Rebellion allowed to have lots of your own ideas about different parts of the movie's story, but that story was solid and clear. Kaiten (as we understand so far) requires you to in order to fill the gaps it didn't bother to fill itself, including the literal capstone to the plot.
>>
>>290572113
This is because you're autistic, and your opinion is irrelevant. Rebellion's ending satisfyingly addresses the elements that Rebellion itself places emphasis on, Kaiten doesn't.
>>
>>290572138
Kaiten literally filled one of the biggest misteries: The origin of Walpurgis and witches.
It filled an important gap from the TV series.

No, if you see Rebellion again is full of referenses, visually dense only for headcanons of pedantic people.
>and your opinion is irrelevant.
I think you hate Kaiten because you were one of them of those pedantic people. My opinion irrelevant? Well what about your headcanons now?
>>
At the very least I can be glad that everyone basically ends up telling Homura to go and save Madoka
Even her two greatest enemies, Sayaka and Walpurgis, basically tell her to stop being sad about everything and save her
>>
If the subs posted for the opening minutes are accurate: Putting aside how much it fucking feels like the same writing as in MagiReco; the Homuphone being limited to just the city and not the rest of the world is a massive downscale and rather retarded decision compared to the end of Rebellion. Are we supposed to assume the rest of the world is being overrun by monsters? That Homura's influence is limited to a single city?
>>
If the ending was clear I doubt that people would have any problems
>>
>>290569267
honestly, true, i gave rebellion the benefit of the doubt and wanted to like it

but in retrospect rebellion caused this movie, I caused this movie by not speaking out about it, I'm so sorry
>>
>>290572238
Because Rebellion spent a lot of time in justifying Homura actions, her thoughts and a fake world were everyone seemed happy.
Rebellion wasted more than 70% in that iirc. There was no more time for solving other misteries. Kaiten advanced the plot more than Rebellion objectively.
Rebellion is good for me but Kaiten is not behind.
>>
>>290572488
>but in retrospect rebellion caused this movie
Magireco did, actually
We would've gotten a different (but still pretty bad sounding) sequel to Rebellion if they didn't revise the script back in 2021
>>
>>290572208
>The origin of Walpurgis and witches
Literally not a mystery. Witches were just the natural result of the process in the series, the intended way Incubators had found to achieve their desired result. In fact magical girls in Madoka are literally called Mahou Shoujo "because it makes sense to call the young state of witches that." Witches being a latter addition is the biggest and worst fucking retcon in the series honestly. It's only a mystery because Kaiten told you it was, when it's thoroughly explained in the TV show as the way things are and have always been.
Walpurgis has always been a collection of witches. It getting an explanation finally is neat, but it was never important. Again, you're autistic and incapable of interfacing with media.

I hope after seeing it I can believe in the whole 'The LoC is actually less bad now for Madoka because she is remembered' thing because I still think it's the only head canon for the ending that I actually like that could actually be what happened

Pretty much everything does. Even if she lost she was still justified entirely by this film. Even if Madoka isn't suffering as much she is justified because Homura is the reason for it. Even if Madoka is a cunt who just left her I'd say Homura justified, even if in that case she should really move on

>>290571677
Ok. Is this what I've gathered from that scene after read a lot of spoilers and hear that audio.
>Homura saves Madoka from the LoC after got a power up
>Cut to Madoka and Homura together in the bench
>Madoka pretty much tells her back the same lines Homura always told her in their first meeting of each timeline (the one in the school's hallway)
>Madoka strokes her check and and calls her her greatest friend (callback to the end of the anime)
>Cut to Madokami (LoC) and Human Madoka facing each other in a void. Madoka tell's to Madokami something that can't be hear while crying.
>Madokami eyes go from golden to pink.
>Madokami disappears
>Cut back to the bench. Homura is sleeping alone.
>Homura's lizard phone starts to ring (Homura is trying to call Madoka?)
>Out of nowhere Madoka's voice says "I'm with you"
>Homura smiles. The phone is still ringing in the background.
>Credits (Kanata starts playing)
>After credits and after the Kyubey bullshit (?) we see Madokami's hand reaching the lizard phone (Answering Homura's call?). Which seems like a callback to the start of those leaked 5 minutes.
Honestly, it seems like "Madoka go back but now she remaings herself as the LoC" and "She go back but she's still connected with Homura somehow" are pretty likely.

This with Homura remaining as the devil and everyone (or at least, Sayaka and Nagisa) remembering everything that they themselves and Homura has done seems to be the best possible ending for it
Apparently there are also shots of Mami + Kyouko, Sayaka + Nagisa and Kyubey-chan (we still need a name for her) being happy that happen around this sequence as well, but I've only heard that mentioned a few times so idk if it's true or not

>Madoka go back but now she remaings herself as the LoC
I think this has to be the one. Madoka sounds too sad for her to still be able to talk to Homura, and the ending mirrors a lot of what Walpurgis did
Madoka's existence and individuality has been preserved by Homura's actions. Just like how Margaret's actions preserved the existence and individuality of all Meguca who become Witches.
It's not a good ending but it still gradually improves Madoka's situation post-episode 12. Plus Homura is probably still the Devil so I'm sure she could really try again one day if she needs to
>>
>>290575782
Truly devilish. Instead of the heaven of the kino Madoka ending we get the never ending torture of endless Magireco flanderizations.

>And she had that ring before then as a magical girl. She simply didn't lose it when she became the devil.
The rings are just the "sleep mode" of soul gems. Homura's soul gem turned into her dark orb after Rebellion. That ring is supossed to be her dark orb in "sleep mode". If she still has the ring it means she still has her dark orb, which means she's still a devil.
And beyond that, there's no reason to think she lost her devil powers.

Homura wished for a world where Madoka could live happily
Now, Madoka is gone but this world still remains. It's not the one Madoka originally made with her wish, it's the one Homura made modified so that Madoka has returned to being the LoC

You think Madoka beat the shit out of her and put her to sleep but didn't fix her broken soul? You think Homura would ever be able to smile genuinely while her soul was still in that fucked up state that's functionally a crystallisation of her despair that would normally burst and turn her into a witch? You think Madoka hates her so much she wouldn't heal her when the entire point of the LoC is her taking away that despair?

And you're saying that happened based on...?
>You think Homura would ever be able to smile genuinely while her soul was still in that fucked up state that's functionally a crystallisation of her despair that would normally burst and turn her into a witch?
It was not despair and Homura made it pretty clear in Rebellion. Her dark orn is a crystallisation of her love for Madoka.
>You think Madoka hates her so much she wouldn't heal her when the entire point of the LoC is her taking away that despair?
There was no need to heal Homura because her dark orb didn't need any kind of repair and was not filled with despair.
>>
>>290577365
>You think Homura would ever be able to smile genuinely while her soul was still in that fucked up state that's functionally a crystallisation of her despair
She's not in despair though
She's just a crazy bitch in love
Besides, I don't think Homura would want that to be taken away. It's one of the pieces she has the proves Madoka's existence. I can't imagine Madoka taking that away unless she also took away Homura's memories. Also it's better to have Homura capable long-term as a way to protect Madoka in case Kyubey ever tries anything with the LoC again
Madoka left but I think that's as far as she went when it came to going against Homura's wishes. We still hear the phone ring at the end too, which was something Homura as the Devil created, which probably means that even if Madoka took away that part of Homura, the world as it existed under Homura's influence still seems to be mostly intact

Now that I think about it.
If Madoka is a goddess again and Homura remains as a devil, We got the "Both are administering the magical girl system together" ending some people wanted but in a twisted way, Right?
Madoka is ruling over "heavens", taking care of the soul of each fallen magical girl. Homura on the other side is ruling over the "mortal word", taking care of contracts and fight the wraiths.
The caveat is, even if they're working together and making things better, they are in separated realms and can't live as they want (At least until Homura finds a way to fix this situation in a way that makes happy everyone). But maybe they still can contact with each other even when they're in different planes of existence. Maybe that's what Madokami answering the lizard phone and Madoka's "I'm with you" are supoissed to mean.

That's what Futaba/2chan was saying when discussing the movie's success compared to Endless Scarlet.
They were also debating whether this movie, compared to Super Kaguya-hime and the Chiikawa movies, had any chance of success.
The movie was already being dismissed as nothing more than a cash grab, and the delays gave the impression that it was actually significant, but depending on how profitable it turns out to be, this movie could be the last in the series.

As someone who was happy with the tv anime and didn't care for the addition of Rebellion, I like the themes of the original reiterated but with more lore. But I get that people liked Homura standing up to fate and trying to be with Madoka. But rebellion's theme is not a powerful for me.
>>
>>290581454
It somewhat does. Although it mostly just focuses on Walpurgisnacht and some new characters that don't do much
The ending is (probably) just the ending of the original anime, but slightly better for everyone involved (even Madoka who is upset about it) transplanted onto the end of Rebellion. Could mean something else but most signs point to that being the right way to look at it
Maybe the next film will focus more on Madoka and Homura, especially since it's pretty clear that neither of their stories are over even if Homura is happy by the end

Yeah, I saw it at the cinema yesterday and honestly can't wrap my head around any of it.
The three new characters, one of whom had rewritten the laws of the universe regard magical girls in the past so Madoka wasn't the first to do it, appear in the present because they each have something they want from Madoka, whether it be salvation or to air their displeasure about the Law of Cycles (in the case of 'Kyuubei did nothing wrong' girl).
Maybe they knew each other in their former lives, or maybe that was just symbolic. Maybe the nameless upperclassman (girl) saved a crow by returning it to its nest, maybe that was just symbolic too. I don't know.

As for the ending, I guess Madoka becomes god again but this time having exorcised her self from the Law of Cycles and can now communicate as Kaname Madoka in some capacity via the phones? But then in the credits the footsteps of Homura and Madoka (?) start walking together but gradually start moving apart, so that was kind of inauspicious.

>Is it being regarded unfavourably?
It seems divisive. At least from what I've seen on here and fusetter
People here (me included) were pretty upset about it on the first day/36 hours. Then after digesting and understanding what happened in it (sans the ending, which is what has been most talked about and lead to such memes as Cunt Madoka, and Homura getting 'it was all a dream'd' after the LoC came back) people tended to stop being so assmad about it
I feel like most people here are just waiting to see it themselves. At the very least I'm less upset at it than I was originally
Also what >>290582735 mentioned, although I feel like a majority of it was people actually mad
>>
>>290582735
I can see people who wanted a straight-forward , easily-digestible story like in the original series being disappointed but after Rebellion I think it would be erroneous to go in with an expectation for that.

For anyone who hasn't actually seen the film (and who liked Rebellion), I think you'll like it, so I wouldn't be taken in by all the doom and gloom.

I think the two biggest complaints are "it feels more like Evangelion than Madoka" in the sense that it's clearly trying to be more complicated and ambiguous, and "it feels like a super hero movie cashgrab because it introduces a bunch of new shit that doesn't leave the old characters' stories breathe and has an inconclusive cliffhanger ending", which seems fair, I guess.

I'm sure the ending will make more sense in the manga if only because I don't think they could make it make less sense, and because Hanokage is a pretty big Madohomufag, and because she's added onto/changed stuff about endings before (the original manga version had Madoka and Moemura reunite in the LoC at the very end)
We will probably have an official canon explanation for what the ending means by the time the manga is over tho

Complaints aside from the people who made unrealistic expectations for this movie, I believe the ones who daydreamed the most about Selma's plot like me were the most rewarded ones. It's a weird feeling to have. Kind of a "This movie seems to be exactly what I thought it would be but now everyone hates it" feeling, I guess?

I just realised it now but if the 'Homura is dreaming of a world where she won' at the end thing is true why would Madoka leave her on a park bench specifically? Unless the plan is to let her wake up after a couple hours, a park bench would be a horrible place to leave her.
Like, it's right out in the open. Someone random could look her up if they wanted to. She's gonna end up getting sick if she doesn't wake up eventually, and it must be unconfutable for her back too long term.
At least let her rest on a bed or something.

It's pretty clearly not meant to be how we look at it.
Homura still has her ring too which means she's still the devil, and there is no universe where Madoka would allow Homura to both not know anything and y'know, be the devil. That would just cause problems for everyone including her eventually

I went to the giant giga fucking Imax in Ikebukuro to watch the movie. My understanding of Japanese is limited but I went with a friend who does understand Japanese and I am extremely media literate.

I honestly expected a lot worse to the point of being actually terrible. Instead it was a filler movie. The biggest problem is that they should have just called it Puella Magi Marguerite Magica and made a side story out of that, not only for how little Madoka actually engages with the plot, but for how unnecessary it is at the expense of putting the actual conflict set up by Rebellion's ending on hold until the next movie. That and how poorly it sets up its own continuation compared to Rebellion's. Rebellion at least fully establishes a status quo consistent with its own themes. Rebellion works because it's a movie about Homura, and Homura taking control of the ending. This movie isn't about Madoka at all, she's extremely silent, and most of her important lines are just recalls from the prequels. It might make logical sense that the Law of Cycles is able to regain the upper hand over Homura (this was an entirely expected possibility), but it doesn't make narrative sense for it to come up just as sequelbait The last five minutes almost feel like what should be the first five minutes of what a proper sequel might look like (though the part where everyone is cheering on Homura would obviously have to come up later).

On a more meta level, the given reason for Marguerite taking Homura's face is bullshit, that being "they both idolize Madoka". I can buy that she lost her identity but she genuinely has nothing to do with Homura at all, and it's obvious it was just bait to generate hype because the possibility of Homura getting split similar to how Madoka did is more interesting (though not necessarily good per se) than just having a random new girl and introducing her as Walpurgisnacht (which they did anyways ultimately).

I have less of an issue with the retcon itself (assuming Marguerite inadvertently ended up retconning reality in the same way Madoka did with her wish) and have a bigger issue with the lack of reason for her to become "detached" from the Law of Cycles in the first place. That whole inciting incident doesn't make sense to me.

Aside from Episode 10, the show is almost entirely presented from Madoka's perspective. Homura is squarely the deuteragonist. The main conflict is in fact Madoka struggling to adapt as her world collapses around her.

The "start of a new story" promotion and transparency for the movie should've been enough for people to understand what the story was about, but considering how the expectations blinded people away from what it really is, maybe they should've pushed it really this far, indeed.

Saw the movie too. Will need a few rewatches to digest it all, especially with all that visual overload.

That said yeah, I'd agree it does feel more like filler/set-up. I loved what was there but it felt more like half a movie than a whole package, was dying for more.
But the main thing I realized felt missing after finishing the movie was... Homura not going all homuhomu over Madoka. Like, especially the way rebellion concluded with the whole "love" monologue, you'd think Homura would indulge more in her precious time with Madoka. Instead, the most intimate they got was eating some snacks on the school roof (with Sayaka). Not sure if we ever even saw the two of them alone together.
It's like Homura got so used to being Madoka's stalker that she forgot how to, well, let herself enter the picture too, beyond just playing the role of her classmate. Kinda thought she'd be more unbound after going devilmura.

Interestingly, that's where I thought fake homu/walpy would come in. Thought she might be a repressed part of homura that split off when she rewrote the world, who'd be more daring towards Madoka (the tango scene), and spur conflict between homura wanting to worship/protect her from afar vs be with her/possess her.

Basically, the events of the movie kept speeding by and homura got no chance to homuhomu madoka & before she knew it madoka was being pulled off towards godoka again. Poor homura...

>You don't like it because you liked Rebellion
>You don't like it because it contradicted your headcanons
>You don't like it because it's not what you decided it would be
>You don't like it because it's like Rebellion
I'm fucking tired of this goddamn deflective attitude where people act like actually the piece of media in question is faultless and blameless and every criticism you have is actually a problem with (You). This complete refusal to engage in actual discussion, just burying your head in the sand and going "you're just not the target audience." I suppose it's no wonder that the people ITT are on Twitter and getting their opinions from there; this is the kind of idiocy that place is infested by.
I don't like the new witch lore because I feel like it contradicts the way the series's twist was written and delivered, just for the sake of having something to tell. I don't like the way the movie seems to sideline some of the cast even harder than Rebellion did (where they at least had something to do while not being too important), and how it exacerbates this by adding one more new character than it should have and not even developing her well. I don't like the way it feels like the movie scaled down things from the level Rebellion established at the end and made Homudevil a jobber whose influence extends to a single town. I don't like the fact that a whole new villain is introduced just so Kyubey can be the big bad again and we can sidestep the conflicts actually set up at the end of Rebellion of Homura/Madoka and Homura/Sayaka (seriously, following up Sayaka swearing she'll remember what Homura has done and be her enemy with them being buddy buddies now is insane), even if I like that new villain. I don't like how unclear the ending is just for the sake of being vague on purpose.

I mean in hindsight, it's a pretty big tell they slapped Walpurgis on the title when she had nothing to do with anything. I don't blame them for not adhering to the concept movie, I do blame them for making us wait 13 years for filler. Of course you're going to have expectations for something more substantial.
>>290589985
Besides the split Homu theory that we now know is false, one of my possible hopes was the movie from Madoka's POV where she tries to reach the truth by approaching Homura but Homura keeps avoiding her. Homura avoiding Madoka makes sense to me because she's so drunk off her own self hatred that everything bad that happens to Madoka is her fault and she deserves punishment, not reward.
>>290590451
I agree with you on almost all of those counts, but Sayaka teaming up with Homura actually does make sense in context.
>>
>>290590451
Rebellion also twist the the lore of TV series.
Making power of love power up just because it sounds like love can defeat anything and giving the skill to kyubey to make an "isolation field" for the sake of just to make him the bad guy just seem something made up to have something new to tell.

>>290590658
Homura stealing Madoka's power makes sense because her looping was what caused Madoka to gain that power in the first place and Madoka leaving her some of her power in the form of her ribbon. When you scrutinize the ending of episode 12, Homura is a walking paradox. She couldn't have become meguca because the person she made a wish for never existed.
And if you actually understand what it means to have no emotions, then you should realize that Kyubey cannot possibly be anything other than a bad guy because he's incapable of seeing humans as anything more than useful batteries.

Have you ever considered the possibility that the reality is that those people just doesn't really care about you, and if you like something or not?
Besides, there's no contradiction or retcon in anything. Madoka was always really vague and convenient on everything. Urobuchi himself only took until after Rebellion to read its own lore, gave to him by Inu Curry.
>>
being meguca is suffering...
>>
>>290589129
>It's technically not a retcon
It's technically very much a retcon by the literal definition of what one is, and to elaborate: the series makes a whole point of the "magical girls turn into witches" thing to the level of Kyubey monologuing to himself about it. It's what the whole series hinges on thematically both within itself and out of universe; the whole moment where Gen smugly tells you he's being all cool and approaching genre conventions differently and going "actually there's a lore reason they're called that and it's edgy." And the ending of the series restores them to being magical girls in the traditional sense. So much of Madoka thematically hinges on this that saying it wasn't always the case is a slap in the face.
>>290589376
>assuming Marguerite inadvertently ended up retconning reality
See, that's retarded too. First, it's a huge stretch to believe anyone but Madoka could have that much power to her wish, because Madoka's conditions are very peculiar. Second: if we assume she didn't, it's contradicting the way the series established witches were always a thing (and those girls were definitely remembered). But if she did rewrite history, how can she be a collection of different girls then? If she altered the past to make all previous megucas witches, then there should be no one whose forgotten despair she needs to carry. If she didn't alter the past, yes she fucking did, or again this contradicts the series. And if she had to carry them even if she made them turn to witches, no she fucking doesn't, because that's not a thing with future witches or she'd be constantly growing over time.
>the lack of reason for her to become "detached" from the Law of Cycles
That's entirely nonsense too.

Retarded complaint. It was clear the movie wouldn't be the end, yes, but it didn't need to have basically zero substance. It's barely a beginning at all. It's a massive detour with a little rushed plot at the end. It doesn't just fail at being an ending, it fails at being a proper new start too.

>"You should have known the movie was obviously going to be a massive sidequest and the the conflict set up by Rebellion would be dealt with in five minutes."
The last part is particularly infuriating I feel, actually. It's not just that the movie is filler after 13 years, it's that when it stops being filler it speeds through what people wanted it to be about way too fast. I'd actually prefer it if it was fully filler and the ending was left to have a fully movie to breathe for itself, and I'm starting to think it was slapped onto this one because they knew people wanted a followup and it had been too long.

>>290590609
>Sayaka teaming up with Homura actually does make sense in context
It doesn't matter how much the context makes it make sense, it's a narrative betrayal of what things were like before. It works so long as Sayaka has lost her memories, but once she regains them she should at least be conflicted about Homura. Instead she seems to have completely flipped to supporting her, and I really doubt their buddy cop adventure was enough for that radical of an ideological shift.
>>
>>290591046
Marguerite's nunnery was entirely comprised of megucae. She bore all of their despair but lacked Madoka's power and ultimately succumbed despite seemingly succeeding for a while. She and her convent formed the amalgamation of witches that was Walpurgisnacht. I should point out that none of them became witches until after Marguerite herself the first witch.

Did it really change the direction in any way? Rebellion was the only way you COULD continue the story off of episode 12 by continuing the character study of Homura and pushing her inner contradictions to their absolute limit. None of my points were "out of nowhere", they are established within the TV series itself. Hell, even Homura is inadvertently following the advice Junko gave to Madoka.

Sayaka is openly hostile to Homura until she realizes all her friends are being duped by the villains and is ambivalent all the way up until the end. Even when she gives Homura the thumbs up she says it's not the right thing to do.

I don't see why it is a slap in the face to say that the fate of Magical Girls from before were extremely worse than becoming witches. They basically became designless monsters and had their identities deleted from the world. Which imo is the tragic fate of Witches + Madoka (after becoming LoC) combined.
>But if she did rewrite history, how can she be a collection of different girls then? If she altered the past to make all previous megucas witches, then there should be no one whose forgotten despair she needs to carry.
It's not the nameless monsters that are attracted to her, but the witches that were made after on. Only if I'm misreading something because I didn't watch shit of the movie yet.
>p.40
Witch of the Stage set (舞台装置の魔女) Walpurgisnacht:
Long ago, the souls of despairing magical girls were eroded by impurity, robbed of their personalities and existence, and reduced to monsters of uniform appearance.
However, through someone's prayer, magical girls came to be reduced to Witches instead of monsters.
Because of this, Nazuka-Sokotsune was born as the law that goes out of its way to grant names and forms to discarded husks.
This Witch of the Stage Set is the husks of fools left behind even by that meaningless, absurd phenomenon.

There was, but pretty brief moments and exchanges. Pretty tantalizing to tease homu when mado's most in danger of being lost to her again. The very ending is pretty ambiguous, if there is madohomu going on there we don't get to see it much.

Honestly most of the stuff between them in this movie was Homura aching over madoka with madoka being blissfully unaware of everything til around the end. (their dynamic does seem cursed to be like that)

In a way though, Homura kinda screwed herself with the whole memory sealing thing to make Madoka live as an ordinary girl, since their entire relationship was grown in the extraordinary. It's like they live in different worlds now, & Homura had her hands too full dealing with her own.

Madoka Magica fucking sucks. On repeat watches it is decent, and if you are such a fucking faggot that you legitimately enjoy anime steeped in meta commentary, then I suppose you'll have fun finding all the hidden nooks and crannies inside of its admittedly dense narrative structure. The problem I have with it is that it insists upon itself, to the point where, when it rushes ahead of the messages it's trying to say and gives the viewer whiplash, it comes across as downright disrespectful to the viewer. Going into the series blind was, for me personally, a massive waste of time, because it's incredibly obvious that the intention when it was released was to theorypost and make headcanons about what would happen next while the shock value from each episode festered. But after the fact, trying to just take the 12 episodes at face value? Fat fucking chance.

What I'm trying to say is, an anime shouldn't need 10 rewatches to be good. Madoka Magica is one such show. It's literally just Eva for mahou shoujo fans (and don't even try and act like it's anything else you insufferable faggots) and beyond its commentary it is really, really shallow as a complete work. I wouldn't have so much vitriol for it, were it not for everyone being so staunchly against criticism of the show. It's fine to shit on any other meta anime series, but not this one for some reason. I think that speaks volumes about the anime community's elitism.

Rebellion already retconned the last 10 minutes of the tv series, but the way it retconned things actually felt consistent and relevant enough to be belieable, and it also helps that they didn't have to introduce any new character to stretch out the story. The kind of question it posed to the resolution of the main series also felt natural and in-character for Homura (assuming you deliberately choose to ignore / misinterpret those last 10 minutes of the tv series). From what I've heard so far about Kaiten, this time it's a real stretch what they came up with to extend the main series and the kind of quesrions they want to pose to Madoka's solution.

Everyone seems to say that Madoka is the one who answer the Homuphone at the end but I didn't actually recognize whose hand it was. If that is the case that perhaps suggests that something did change with respect to Madoka's individuality. I wouldn't put much stock in Madoka's whisper after she disappears, it's too much like what she says when she becomes the Law of Cycles in episode 12 and we all know how that went for Homura's happiness.

Madoka is sad because she erased Homura's memories. Homura is smiling because she no longer has the memories that made her sad, just the feeling of being loved. Most likely she mean the ending isn't a straight up tragic one and leaves the window open for a better outcome.
After all, regardless of the current situation as long Homura remains a devil she still has the powers to recover Madoka and unlike in the anime and Rebellion where she was doing everything alone now she has a whole team supporting her (even some LoC girls will side with her if they come back). Which is actually a hopefull outlook.
Huh. A hopefull future. Kind of reminders me to the last lines of kanata.

VAs record their lines and then fuck off while the movie is made; in fact they record before the animation even happens. The script and direction can change wildly afterwards, and they don't get to see the final product until much later. If you'd ever seen a con panel with VAs you'd know they tend to know jack shit about the episodes they talk about. A movie looks insanely different to an actor on the inside before it comes out.

Watched it
It's an obvious sequel hook cliffhanger ending

Don't know how much has been spoiled but:

Fake Homura is Walpurgis who is the original magic girl who made witches to begin with as a way to "save" them because before witches existed a full soul gem would turn them into a monster with no individuality and she wanted to let them have at least that, her wish was actually to save all the magic girls, same as madoka, she's the one who created the system which stores all the witches' records outside of the universe. Post credits is QB sitting there saying he has a plan. Her goal is to return madoka to the ring but then she remembers that madoka saved her at the end of the TV series and just joins the rest of the old characters to egg homura on and affirm her choice to save madoka

Thelma has the motive of wanting to be useful and it turns out that she loves the incubators and thinks they're right about everything because they're the most useful things in the universe and she's trying to help by turning madoka into her witch form and making everyone witches but QB just goes "lol what a moron there's no point if they don't despair and just become witches" and fucks off

Glasses is just some moron along for the ride

No kyouko/sayaka scenes at all, kyouko is paired with classes and sayaka spends most of the movie with homura

ending is madoka going back to the ring and post credits is QB plotting shit

credits have footprints walking alongside each other, black and white. Near the end they part. The white footprints turn towards the black footprints for a moment, and then turn away and walk off the screen while the black footprints keep walking forward

pamphlet was sold out
>>

I watched it

I don't know where the "it's a side story" retards are coming from it LITERALLY has a fucking post credits sequence with QB figuratively sitting in the witch warehouse twirling his moustache
>>
>>290596058
they should just have let selma kill green when she reveals her true goal and kidnaps madoka like urobuchi originally wanted.
>>
>>290596058
Nagisa is the only one who knew everything all the time and just didn't say anything because she doesn't care as long as she has fun

She's the one who kills Thelma by having Mami make a fucking cake space battleship yamato (it flies and the cannon is controlled with a gun in the bridge that mami shoots, literlaly yamato) that shoots Nagisa out of the hadou cannon and she flies into Thelma's witch core and stabs her soul gem with a cheese kunai

For some reason she uses cheese kunai this time and her witch is a big blender

>I don't know where the "it's a side story" retards are coming from it LITERALLY has a fucking post credits sequence with QB figuratively sitting in the witch warehouse twirling his moustache
yes? but that is a sequel hook for the next movie that will finally maybe resolve that, thats what people mean with filler/sidequest, that the story of kaiten is mostly irrelevant to the actual plot of madoka magica and the stuff going on between madoka and homura

When homura talks to madoka and sayaka warning them about walpurgis she stands sideways basically doing a jojo pose the whole time

Walpurgis witch form is seen floating around in the sky after madoka's witch disappears when it's unclear when it showed up and isn't really acknowledged after (goes back to being fake homura again) and she stays at fake homura even after her real identity as the nun is revealed

new ring is not god madoka, has straight hair going down (though still long enough to go past the screen) instead of it spreading out and no wings and homura says she broke it by taking madoka out and gives up at first before everyone else (including walpurgis) eggs her on to go save madoka

the whole movie was being just an excuse to go "actually homura WAS doing the right thing at the end of rebellion and even sayaka agrees"

mami gets no good action scenes, all she does is regular gun stuff and then the yamato

kyouko fights glasses

nagisa fights thelma

sayaka fights walpurgis

devil homura fights all three, she uses black blocks

https://wiki-puella--magi-net.translate.goog/Witch_Runes?_x_tr_sl=en&_x_tr_tl=es&_x_tr_hl=es&_x_tr_pto=tc
The latin variation is used for beings that are "witch-like" but not true witches. It has been used for the nightmares from Rebellion, the Uwasas from Magireco and now for Homura's new ring and some promotional arworks where Homura's name is writting in that version of runic.

Honestly that made me think what if they would do many of these characters storylines like this, maybe not exactly the same because it would be too boring, but that is something. Imagine one with Madoka... (I also though for some time Hitomi was gonna become magical girl in this one lol)
>>
>>290597836
if you know how Exedra works in the Lighthouse original story something gets bad in it and Kiokus start to collapse and if they become unstable they would disappear completely from all universes. Kyoko kioku and Felicia go with Namae to get Sayaka back since she was the first one who collapsed to different universe to get her "core" self back, but the world they would enter may differ from other worlds and it is unknown what kind of changes it would had. So here we have first one with her. I'm actually curious about this original story mode since I never much was into gacha and ironically the waiting for the new movie got me into it I started enjoying it
>>
Next thread?

>>290597836
It's from a timeline where Kyosuke's accident never happened, and he got with Hitomi right away. So Sayaka's wish is different this time, and her power seems to be to absorb people's luck to increase her own. So while her wish is still unrevealed, it's likely that she wished for Kyosuke and Hitomi to share a bit of their luck with her, since she's seen being jealous of them
