It started ok, it seemed as if they have a plan for it, bunch a characters, that it will slowly build towards something, but after the first major arc they dropped the female lead, all the friends, the school all together and focused on a side character to a side character. It's like they wanted the MC who has no magic meme, but miscalculated it so much that they didn't know how to give him the overpowered secret magic without completely breaking the power system.

I'm sure there are series that did it that I liked and can't think of off-rip. It's not interesting to have the MC essentially unable to do anything of his own will (until the more recent chapters). As for the MC's personality, well I wasn't huge on that either, but I feel like it could've worked.

There was a Jump manga that did the same thing and got axed and in the final arc he brought back the original heroine and the axed ending was even a generic "our battle is just starting!" bringing back the original MC's friends as his buddies. Character gacha is just a sign of lack of confidence.
