Ever been to an anime convention? How was it? Anything memorable? Any advice for newbies?

>>290623845Dont buy anything you will find them cheaper on the internets
>>290623952>>290624006these are the correct answersput on a facemask and just take pics of things you would buy to purschase online
>>290623845I help run a local one. If you have friends, they can absolutely be a good time. Go to random panels or events. Get drunk after hours. Check out the cosplay. Get fleeced at vendor hall. On the negative end, you usually get a few creeps each year. And assholes. Furries like to show up at Anime cons for some fucking reason. The Homestuck(and Undertail by extension) are some of the most annoying fans you'll find at a con. Never trust a Deadpool.
>>290623952thats only 2 hours into the convention
>>290623845Avoid the afterparty orgies.
>>290624129>AvoidOnly if you're a coward.
>>290623952Better yet, just get a N95 face mask. You'll still smell BO, but at least the chances of getting con-flu is significantly lower>>290624006And depending on where you come from, you don't have to take as much shit back with you either which is great. Although the only exception is doujin. Some of this shit is fucking hard to find if you really want a physical doujin
>>290624266It's really hard to find the GOOD stuff at NA Cons. Doujins are becoming more coming over time, but most of the time they're from Fakku.
>Ever been to an anime convention?Yup, I discovered...THIS...https://youtu.be/yzC4hFK5P3g?si=jMSEqUnFdkCuhkvX
I don't know if you're aware, but there is an entire board for conventions. That said, they can be tons of fun, especially if you don't mind letting loose, getting drunk, and acting like a retard.
>>290623845>Any advice for newbies?Don't have high expectations lel
>>290623952>>290624112>>290624266Is the body odor actually a problem at these cons and is it an American thing onlyI assume Japanese conventions are different
Went to a few small-time ones, but they all felt like "it's fun with friends" garbage.
>>290624977I just went to my first the other weekend and actually it was pleasant. No body odor issues that I could notice, plenty of polite people. The only downside was some really weird furries.
>>290624977I only crossed a sour smell once during Anime Expo. It’s mostly a joke now.The bathrooms are horrid though. Piss all over the floor and it looked like people were ripping their pubes into the urinal.
>>290623845Depends a lot on what the convention has to offer. I've been to Japanese film festivals, those have always been fun because anime are fun. They'll typically feature some convention stuff as a sideshow, like booths selling Japanese food and trinkets, a few panels, some workshops about calligraphy or making origami or whatever, the odd Japanese music act. But just going there to watch select anime movies on the silver screen makes it worth my while, the convention stuff alone wouldn't be nearly as much of a draw for me, although it does enliven the festivals. Neat way to pass the time between movies and just add a bit of variety to the event.
>>290624977its slightly a joke but ive run into SOUR smelling con goers before. japan is worse though, much worse. they dont believe in AC units. they think they steal your soul or some shit
>>290626745The only reason why honkies aren't afraid of fan death is because they have no souls
>>290623845Been going to one since 2007. The ones from there were pretty damn fun but I was also a teen. People say many of them are normal fag infested now but that mainly applies to the big cons. Small fan run cons have less of them and feel more like pre covid cons to a degree. >Any advice for newbiesCon food 9 times out of 10 sucks and is overpriced. Most vendors in the dealers hall are dropshippers selling temu garbage but there are independent businesses that are legit that have booths there. AA is your best bet for art prints and such that wont be AI slop, just be prepared to see the same 5 fandoms at most of the tables. >>290624581If you are talking about cgl its super dead.
>>290623845>Ever been to an anime convention?Yes, once.>How was it?Bad. It was my first convention, so I wasn't well prepared to enjoy it, but overall it was kind of disappointing.>Anything memorable? Not really.>Any advice for newbies?- Bring water bottles.- Put on deodorant. You'll be walking a lot and you'll need to carry your coat/jacket everywhere you go.- Bring cash, as much as you are willing to spend, and ONLY spend cash. It's very, very easy to end up overspending if you're putting things on a credit card.- Have a few venues from the schedule planned to attend. If you have nothing planned, you're just going to wander hallways and spend money in artists' alley.- If it is a larger convention, check what costs money to get into. For a smaller anime convention, you might be able to just walk into any room at any point. For a larger one, individual events might be paid to enter.- Bring a friend, if available. I've only gone on conventions solo, and it's easy to get bored doing so. I've heard that going with friends can be a lot more interesting, even if you don't get to do as many things as you might like.>>290624650>Don't have high expectations lelThis, as well. It's a bunch of dorks organizing for a bunch of other dorks to dress up and act goofy for a weekend. This isn't a concert or a theme park. Expect just a gathering of people and a bunch of "events" being people talking about stuff or watching videos. You're not going to watch people recite a play for your entertainment.
>>290627158Sucks that it's dead. I would have enjoyed browsing it for inspiration. Doesn't look like it was the kind of place to discuss larger, more elaborate (toku style, I guess?) cosplays though.
>>290627754It was mostly mentally ill drama whores and more Lolita fashion than cosplay. Pretty sure they all migrated to discord or crystalcafe. Perfect time to take it over honestly. There are threads from 3 years ago still up on there thats how dead it is.
>>290628030I doubt moids could do any better given how little we collectively know or care about fashion (let alone subcultures), have you seen how bad /fa/ looks
>>290628102Well it is also suppose to be a cosplay board so technical cosplay crafting would fit there too. Only people really left are those that make con meet up threads. Im surprised the board is even still there desu.
>>290628030I'll have to see if I've got the time to work on any of the projects I've written about. One's got some preliminary template work done and a general idea of how a couple of sections would go together. The only 'regular clothing' cosplays I'd be interested in making are female ones though, but I don't have the Asian twink genes required to wear them convincingly.
>>290623845I would advise going with friends and going to one with a good amount of interests (guests, panels, etc.).I would get familiar with the map and convention center because usually the maps aren't good at indicating scale.I would also advise to bring water and some sort of snack, ideally in a bag or backpack. You will get thirsty and you dont want to rely on expensive and mediocre con food.I would also recommend setting a budget and shopping around before spending (unless its a must-have or grail item). And do the after con events, or at least check them out.And get plenty of sleep, because it'll wear you out more than you realize.>>290624977It isn't bad most of the time. You'll get a smelly person breeze every so often, but most people don't smell bad or are smelly at all. More perfumey smells than anything.
>>290624171Horrors beyond your comprehension
>>290623845Don't buy any figgies they're ALL fakes
>Ever been to a normalfag convention?
>>290623845Not been to an anime convention but have been to gamescon, i assume it's mostly the same so i don't wanna go.
>>290623845underboobs teenaged cosplayers. some of them are not fat. and surprisingly very few trannies. but that was like 12 yrs ago?i think i met an old ojisan idoru-fag who cosplayed while volunteering as an usher. maybe i should try volunteering for poops and chuckles. beats working at a tech or food con.
>>290624129Based and wizardpilled
>>290624266>con-flu is significantly lowerok wokie >>>/pol/lefty
>>290625033Only chill ones are usually during christmas
>>290623845Theres was so many weird people and people who asked dumb questions at panels that I felt better about myself.
>>290623845Yeah .but now I'm a hikkimori
I dressed up as a major character from a trigger anime and not one person complimented me on my outfit

went to an anime convention yearly before covid deleted it and never bothered going more after>PERFECT megumin cosplayer that made me drop a bit of spaghetti>accelerator female cosplayer who was flat as a washboard and I wanted to approach her to say nice stuff but she vanished>girl who wore effectively only a horizontal string for a bra, no idea how she wasnt kicked out>one year it was during peak franxx popularity and a third of the women there were zero two>lots of furries. like a lot. and they all stood outside in the hot sun for some reason.>all of the merch is going to be top normieslop of that time, every single booth was selling the same MHA shit
>>290623845>Ever been to an anime convention?I was at one two weeks ago.>How was it?Fun enough.>Anything memorable? Some meetups.>Any advice for newbies? If you need advice for convention going, you weren't going to enjoy it anyways.
>>290625033>go to social event>realize it's more fun if you're socialWOAH
>>290624977It's not SO bad these days, but generally speaking there's good reason as to why most anime conventions include basic hygiene in their rulebooks.
