Now that Chainsaw Man threads are officially dead, what went wrong with Part Two?
>>
>>290629416
Maybe he needed to take a break and return to the series after more time away.

Or maybe he was just done with that story, maybe he didn't have anything more to say and trying to force it didn't work.
>>
I think the fatal flaw in all Fujimoto's works is that he is a loser virgin in real life.
All his plots have elements of personal wish fulfillment, and he is very passionate about those wishes. He wants to have a mommy-sister gf that would control him, guide his life and then step on his balls and betray him. To be bertrayed by a woman is the ultimate wish of Fujimoto. Togata bertrays Agni by letting the criminals out, Makima bertrays Denji, Reze bertrays Denji during their kiss, santa master bertrays Tolka, etc etc. However, due to the fact that Fujimoto have never been bertrayed by a dominant woman, let alone never ever been in a relationship with a dominant girl to begin with, he just doesn't know what to do after his plots go past the bertrayal part.
All the suffering and self deprecation his characters go through the second half of his plots is nothing more than a projection of Fujimoto's unfulfillment in life. He doesn't know what happens after the bertrayal, because he never experienced it. This is the fatal, ultimate flaw in all of his stories, the flaw that fascinates the worthless midwit incel losers and concerns high iq alpha males like me. Fujimoto needs to have sex, just like all of his fans

Officially dead?
>>
>>290629651
yeah the “general” threads kept getting made despite only archiving with 100 posts and the last one archived during the day with like 50 posts

its dead and buried and season 2 is still over a year off so its officially done
>>
>>290629416
the fact that he felt the need to make a part two after a good 97 chapter run
>>
>>290629704
Sad. I wonder if Fujimoto is happy with having chainsawman be forgotten as just another WSJ series that came and went.

As a former Chainsaw Manfag... I actually prefer it that way. Part 2 was so bad. Sequels/second parts tend to be bad, but CSM Part 2 was so fucking bad that it makes you feel like you wasted your time rereading all of Part 1, because it basically made none of it matter.
Did you like csm part 1 or the Reze movie? Well, it doesn't matter anymore. None of that happened.
Denji in Part 2 was genuinely disgusting too. I gave him the benefit of the doubt for the entirety of Part 2, but now that it's over, I can finally say it: CSM Part 2 Denji is genuinely one of the most unlikeable protagonists I've ever seen. Just absolutely repulsive as a person.
Asa was wasted potential. She had so much potential, but she barely appeared, and whenever she did, she was constantly made into a joke. Fujimoto literally turned her into a cuck at the end lmao
I could go on and on.
>>
>>290629416
Fujimoto made part 2 without a plan for the sole purpose of milking his biggest cash cow for all it's worth.
For all of the flaws you can point out in his previous works, and there are plenty of flaws, they at least had artistic merit.
CSM part 2 was a product and nothing else.
>>
Part 2 wasn't THAT bad. It was enjoyable .... somehow
>>
>>290630438
Cope
>>
>>290629955
I figured there'd be atleast a hint of redemption for Denji, but there just isn't. He's scum through and through. And then the world resets and he defaults to his half-way likeable persona from P1, while 90% of the cast is retconned out of existence
The writing decisions by Fuji were some of the strangest I've ever seen
>>
>>290629416
CSM was only ever notable because of Makima. Delete her from Part 1 and the story is just as bad as Part 2's is
>>
>>290629416

>>
>>290629416
Not only he didn't have a plot in mind (beyond "Quasimodo predicted all this"), he also didn't commit to any plotline he attempted to write. At least the ones that weren't "devil of the week". Everything else gets le subverted before receiving any kind of payoff. Denji never scores, Famine was Death all along, real Famine does nothing, real Death gets eaten without a fight etc. And then a magic reset button with an unearned happy ending. A bloody waste of everyone time is what shart poo was.
>>
>>290629416
Part 1 works because Fujimoto has sympathy for what Denji is going through, so he makes an effort to give Denji some progress despite the humiliation and misery porn, part 2 doesn't work because Fujimoto has no sympathy for Asa, he thinks she's a joke so he makes no effort to give her any real development, to him Asa doesn't mean anything more than something ridiculous, so he had to regurgitate Denji's character arcs which are lame because Denji was only good in part 1 thanks to the side characters, but here he's just a nuisance. And in the mix of Fujimoto's misogyny and his benevolent misandry, Asa gets the worst possible writer who could have put her in existence. I say that because Asa had everything Fujimoto could have used to make a great narrative, and he chose not to because he really doesn't want the story to stop being about himself. These are meta observations I have, if I had to be technical I'd say part 2 failed because the story was a self parody so it ends up being nothing in the end. Of course the mindless shill will endlessly defend Fujimoto and make excuses for the author's failure. They use every trick they can think of, blame Asa, or other characters, blame pacing or art, but they never blame Denji and Fujimoto, the answer is so simple I feel like I don't even have to put it into words.

tldr: part 2 is written by a man who uses misery as a fetish and he thinks women are retarded.
>>
>>290631393
>tldr: part 2 is written by a man who uses misery as a fetish and he thinks women are retarded.
But Denji is literally the biggest retard in existence during P2. A drooling, retarded man lee by his dick, incapable of remembering people 5 minutes after meeting them.
It's one of the few attempts I've seen to depict the actions and consequences of a genuinely retarded human being, but it falls flat because we've already seen Denji act with ingenuity in part 1, so it comes across as character assassination.
>>
>>290631456
That's Fujimoto infantilizing Denji so he can excuse his misogyny as childish, or result of his trauma. Fact is, Fujimoto wrote the male lead like that for the reasons I explained. He genuinely thinks men are the victims and women can just walk away from life ruining traumatic experiences. I wish I had the time to properly explain my thoughts on this. It's glaringly misogynistic writing, people are just too unserious to look at it that way. Do you really think normalfags give a shit? No, they were rooting for Denji till the end, Asa be damned. Look at the characters as the ideas they represent, if you want to see what Fujimoto really feels about the characters.
>>
>>290631522
I don't think anyone reading it is going to feel awful sympathetic to Denji, meanwhile Asa is in a damsel in distress role where she's basically coerced by a devil to commit any of the mistakes she makes, and is therefore absolved of them.
Denji's ending is more bittersweet, he lives on as a dog under devils with no autonomy while the new Asa basically has all of her initial dilemmas resolved by befriending Bucky and co. and living presumably a happy school life thereafter.
>>
>>290631634
>I don't think anyone reading it is going to feel awful sympathetic to Denji
You're wrong, take a look at reality. I'm not going to adress the rest of your post, it's not related to what I was saying.
>>
>>290631668
I've looked at the reality of collapsing sales and the overwhelmingly negative reception to P2 Denji on every social media site.
No one cared for this depiction of Denji. Compare the goodwill he has among movie viewers to the groans he got by P2 readers for his ending.
The patience had run out. Even Pochita is seen to drop the harsh truth on him that he couldn't appreciate what he dreamed about once he obtained it, so in his new life he'll be exempt from all those things except for being able to dream about them.
>>
>>290629730
It would've been legendary if he just ended it at part 1. I stopped reading there and I'm glad I did. It's a perfect ending.
>>
>>290629416
Lack of Reze
I guess the real thing that went wrong was not setting up Asa as the villain.(or what more sound minded people/fans of Asa will say the story should have stayed focus on her and she should have not have been sidelined throughout the last third of part 2). Probably would have worked out better if they had her go through downwards spiral that would have put Yoru to shame.
Also the prophecy BS felt cheap and unnecessary.
The US Soviet war should have been more central to the plot or at least the two superpowers should have taken continuous interest in Denji along with the control devil/nayuta, and the war horseman instead of just being used to re create the nuke.
Fakesaw man should have been an actual character.
Also part 2 Denji is a mega retard who is constantly deconstructed and is never let to re construct himself. His character just keeps degenerating even with him acknowledging this in a few instances to the point that his character can't even make the discussion to factory reset everything so Pochita had to do it for him. Asa doesn't really get to play a factor in resolving the ending.
Yoshida is just gay moments and aura in part 2 so by the time of his death I felt nothing.
Puta is Puta.
The devil hunter trio were a waste of space.
Miri exist(should have given his time to either building up fakesaw man or more time to Barem)
Barem is cool, wish he lasted around a bit longer.
I still love chapter 98
>>
>>290631763
I don't disagree with you about how you interpret Pochita's final words. But I mean it, readers don't care if Denji was a piece of shit in part 2. The sales are a good argument, but see the discourse online, normalfags to this day defend Denji because Fujimoto wants people to feel sorry for him so he wrote the story specifically with that intention. There's a term for it I can't remember, about narrative revolving around a male victim which falls apart under the smallest criticism. Happens in real life too.
>>
>>290629583
Yep pretty much. This is why I respect OG mangaka like Toriyama, he actually had a life and chill hobbies like motorbiking he liked doing on the side, and it really fed into his work with how the characters actually progress, age up, have kids in a casual normal way. You know if a story doesn't make a huge deal out of having sex and starting a family that the author is successful in real life. Conversely, if sex is treated as some huge crazy unknown thing, the author is a fucking loser.
>>
>>290631880
They don't care because P2 is largely just a random series of events with little emotional connection, starring a character that carried over a lot of goodwill from P1. Because P2 is so bad, P1 Denji is how people choose to remember the character.
If P2 were a standalone series, everyone reading it, not that there'd be many of them, would come away with it thinking that this Denji guy is genuinely one of the most off putting and unlikeable protagonists of all time.
It's only what occurs in P1 that even allows the manga to last past a few volumes without editor imposed changes or the axe
>>
>>290629583
The crazy part is that having sex makes you way less tolerant of women's bullshit. CSM's best part was Denji finally putting that cunt Makima in her place. If there's no comeuppance, why would I want to read about evil women? I can just see that in real life.

I though Part 2 was pretty cool
>>
>>290629416
Fujimoto isn't very good at writing long-form plotlines. He's better at telling condensed fast-paced storylines.
Part 2's issue was that it was all long term mystery boxes that inevitably turned out to be anti-climaxes when they were opened.
The other issue is that it just felt insanely uneventful. The cast was mostly made of retarded people that lacked self-direction just gormlessly drooling on themselves as bad stuff outside of their control happened to them repeatedly. It lacked any sense of energy. Just a long string of characters having bad things happen to them and making bad decisions in response.
>>
>>290631989
I'd argue that Denji in Part 1 is also unlikeable, not nearly as bad as he is in Part 2, not even close, but the other characters and his interactions with them carry him. In Part 2, there's nobody. Asa is sidelined really badly, and Yoru ultimately just ends up being a violent whore and that's it
I've never read a manga character as fucking stupid as Denji in Part 2. He genuinely forgot about people and entire plotlines between chapters or even between pages. He'd forget what people had just told him and straight-up wouldn't listen because he was thinking too much with his dick.
>>
>>290629416
Famine wasn't fat. She couldn't even be chubby. Really?

P1 Denji is more of an anti hero/rogue. He's given redeeming qualities like wanting to spare Reze, or take care of Power instead of going with Makima.
He's rough around the edges but that can also make him seem pretty cool or badass as he takes down Devils.
In P2 all of that is deconstructed. He's never cool, and his attempts to be a demon killing "badass" only leads to worse consequences and failure. Instead of finally shedding tears for Aki's death, he's seen to cry over his dick on numerous occasions.
The loyalty he has for friends is nowhere to be seen as he immediately shifts away from "saving Asa/Nayuta" at the prospect of getting his dick wet at a brothel or by fucking a devil.
>>
>>290629583
Not saying you're necessarily wrong, but imo the bigger issue is that he's not used to longer stories. Everything he made outside Fire Punch and CSM was a oneshot, the former was 8 volumes and imo would've been a healthy target, maybe push to 10
>>
>>290632305
>deconstructed
>acts like a tard and becomes unlikeable while the rest of the cast is shit

It was done horribly. The most beloved shows on earth like breaking bad/better call saul do this but at great depths with a great cast and at least they redeem themselves at the end and go out with a bang. Sopranos completely breaks it down more than anything out there as you get used to the characters becoming irredeemable early on while still being hilarious, likeable and having the greatest cast ever

Fuji wanted to do this but flanderized denji and made him irredeemable at the VERY END. Seriously, the fight with yoru was supposed to be denjis redemtion despite destroying the world because he at least wanted to save a girl in danger. But no, he wanted to have sex with yoru. The ending was also completely unearned, denji had no decision and was an asspull

There was no deconstruction going on, just fujimoto tricking his audience while making denjis character and motivations unintetesting, unfunny and pathetic to the very end. Even Shinji made the decision of realizing and coming to the understanding of the importance of connecting and that he should not run away anymore into his safety bubbles
>>
>>290629416
This board just has a unironic hateboner for CSM and Fujimoto in general, i don't expect to see any good faith criticism in this thread despite valid criticisms to make against Part 1 and 2, so far most of these are the same retarded posts shifiting blame on Denji, Asa or other stupid shit on why they think the manga got bad or "CSM was never good and the only good thing was x" type posts. Also this manga has the worst schizo haters that i have seen because not even with JJK or KGB got that bad with the schizos.
>>
bunch of retards so far
the issue was pacing, or rather Fujimoto turning what would've been 1 CSM chapter into 2-3 CSM chapters. If chapters had their usual density then intensity would be there, as it was impact of scenes was diluted because you'd go through dozens of pointless pages of filer first.
it is editorial failure more than anything else. Was this is a case of Fujimoto getting free of his tard wranglers and shitting the bed as authors tend to do when they get freedom, or magazine forcing him to increase the amount of volumes and spreading out his work thin, is up to you
>>
Ultimately it was editorial conflict. Fujimoto didn't WANT to make part 2, but Chainsaw Man's popularity caused his editors to push for him doing that. But once he got started he was pushed to drop Asa as a protagonist and go back to Denji, and he took out his frustration and annoyance through the series. It became something he did not enjoy doing and CSM suffered for it. Look at the initial plotlines set up:
>Asa learns to be more confident
>She has a crush on Denji
>Yoru wants her to turn Denji into a weapon to fight Chainsaw Man with
>Denji is living with Nayuta, Meowy, and Makima's dogs
>Denji want to sent Nayuta to college and get laid
All brought to an end without resolution. Fujimoto was great in part 1, so it makes sense that all these dropped plot points are because he wasn't allowed to do what he wanted in the end.
>>
>>290633044
Even if you told the story with half the number of chapters it wouldn't change that it ultimately had underdeveloped characters, characters that actively lost agency and complexity with time, mysteries and set up with no or disappointing payoff, and a conclusion that was terrible.
>>
>>290633097
Why assume that Fujimoto was forced to do anything and not that he was just incompetent?

>>
>>290634146
Really makes you realize how Part 1 was lightning in a bottle and it helps that the Reze arc works as a neat little one-shot story within the series. Part 2 essentially ending by resetting everything really shows how he couldn't really replicate it or keep the magic going.
>>
>>290634146
The problem with modern shounens is that authors retroactively ruin everything now. Mappa knew SnK was shit after that ending and they were forced to finish it but you could feel their lack of passion, now Fujimoto retroactively ruined CSM with part 2 too

Fujimoto was more concerned with humiliating Denji than letting his character continue to grow.

It's a deconstruction, just not a particularly interesting or good one. Fuji clearly tried to make it appear so that the things that made us root for him in P1, were now bringing him down. But he did it in such a hamfisted and contrived way that it didn't feel like a believable "downfall" but rather just a character assassination. Like he just needed to make the guy suffer and fail because he didn't have anything else in mind.
There are too many moments where the characters are acting conveniently stupid, obtuse and incompetent in order to allow Fuji's desired scenario to pass.
Even a hint of old Denji's competence would force the story to be drastically altered.

A lot went wrong, so much so that it's hard not to generalize. I think the most agreed upon problem was the weekly format and his assistants leaving, quality spiraled rapidly after that, and the rapid release pace seems to have fractured any coherence his plot originally had in the chapters pre-Falling arc. Prior to that, I could've believed there was something decent cooking in his head, but after the rapid decline of the entire manga's quality, it's hard to say he had any sort of coherent vision. It didn't help that it was getting obvious how disinterested he was in continuing, which is the second main flaw with part two. At some point it became fairly obvious that it was a paycheck and a contract to fulfill, not a passion project. The Reze movie shining so brightly probably brought him equal amounts of joy and disappointment as he watched the discourse of the manga be average-negative while the movie was hailed as a masterpiece. He had to play the cool genius mangaka for interviews and whatnot, but watching the manga become we even sloppier around this time and abruptly end not long after makes it feel like it ultimately made him give up. I have no proof for any of this movie stuff, but it all feels right.

That's not even going into the content of Part Two, but that's a novel on its own.

The greatest crime of part two is how inconsequential the entire thing is. The unresolved plotlines from 1? They do not matter. New protagonist? Sidelined for a regurgitation of Denji's development that everyone has already read. The new plotlines established during its run? Does fuckall to the overall narrative? Characters do not feel like actual character but rather plot devices used to move the story from point A to point B. Not to mention how the entire thing is supposedly subversive only to end in anti climatic dog shit endings.

You could read all of part 1, skip to the last 2 chapters of part 2 and lose absolutely nothing of value.

>Chainsaw Man threads are officially dead
Just wait until the retarded powerkek shows up to necrobump the thread all day and night because he's got nothing more to do with his worthless life. This series ended with a disappointing wet fart and I think it's finally time to move on and let it go for good.
>what went wrong with Part Two?
Part 2 was made to specifically kill this series. Read "Just listen to the song" and you'll see that it was made bad for the sole purpose of making people forget about Chainsaw Man entirely. He denied the reader of any real payoff with the pointless bait n' switch cliffhangers while giving most P2 characters unceremonious deaths for shock value and then ultimately retconning the whole series.

The threads quite literally became dragon ball super-tier in terms of quality. Completely filled with schizos regurgitating the same talking points ad-nauseam with the aforementioned powerfag avatarfag making them insufferable combined with Part 2's disappointing run. I will not be missing them at all.

Yeah, /dbs/ is fun too. Maybe your problem is taking discussion on the Cantonese claymation board too seriously.

If that was true he wouldn't have ended it with a fresh starting point

Objectively false. SnK's last chapter debuted on 04/09/2021. /snk/ threads were still hitting the 500 post bump limit in Oct 2021, six months after the last chapter. Meanwhile, /csm/ threads fail to hit the bump limit now, between the five and six month mark. The ending was just that pointless

Denji is a character that works in the context of Makima. No Makima? Then Denji becomes either shit and boring (what happened in part2) or just another generic shonen MC. Part2 could have continued to explore Makima character through Nayuta, but actually part2 only does this in a single chapter and a half. So nevermind.

So... Asa and Yoru, part2 could have been its own thing, embrancing a new MC and new villain and keeping Denji more in a second or third plane. Leave behind the theme of control and freedom, make a story about war and death. This also didn't happen, except for the first 2 arcs that are actually decent. After that Asa gets forgotten and Yoru only exist to lust for Denjis dick.

Basically Fujimoto found the exact path that turns his universe and characters into boring trash, a difficult task but he pulled it out.
