I was always wondering why shoelacer isekai is so popular, considering that I never managed to enjoy a single one. But then I realized that it's a power fantasy for Japanese salarymen exclusively. Think about it - it's basically a story of a worker unappreciated by his company, who gets fired, but then goes to join another company and succeeds while his old place of work falls apart without his vital skills. The biggest issue with salaryman life is that you are keenly aware of your own worthlessness - most of them don't do jack shit and simply keep the machine going in hopes that something nice will somehow happen. So, of course, their greatest fantasy would be to discover that their skills were actually absolutely vital (and also to get a harem of loli slaves, maybe). That's what every shoelacer isekai is actually about. I don't get them because I'm not a salaryman, so my preferred power fantasies are something like KageJitsu. But once you start looking at them from that perspective (party = company, hero = CEO, protag = salaryman), it's impossible to unsee.
