I recently rewatched the anime up to a little past the Pegasus fight and I have two observations.1. I remembered the duels taking forever when I was a kid and I was proven entirely correct. Despite the heavy editing, I actually liked the early English dub where they're weren't ADR-ing smacktalk between the duelists and you could actually belive little Yugi could gow into Yami Yugi before the acting became over-the-top nonstop. Yami Yugi's English dialog reflects the superiority of the character and often plays out better than the original. Even the 4Kids puns play off better thanks to Yami's charisma.

Also it wouldn't even need to be hundreds of episodes long anymore. Just make a regular length season with a few cool characters, a few hype duels, a hot girl and a simple plot. Modern archetype design is about being compact and having as few cards as possible anyway so you don't NEED hundreds of episodes to dripfeed out new protagonist cards like the old formula demanded.

This is because the point of the modern game isn't to be a game, but to sell a feeling of power to players. You win a coin flip and get to feel powerful. You lose one and want to try it again so you can feel powerful. I have no idea if Rush Duel fixes this or not.
