There is this group that did one of the monogatari seasons that has an opening where the art styles changes from the 80s art style to the modern art style the serie normaly uses, and in the opening you can see how they use those VHS yellow subs to do the parts that go with the 80s art style. Its so fucking cool.

Always surprised when a Crunchyroll anime or otherwise non-fan-subbed anime has something like this.Speaking of which, I remember FFF's subs for Jinsei having a ton of these, since every episode had one or two pieces of paper that they fully translated, and it would cause everyone's video player to freeze while loading up the huge-ass subtitle.

Weird seeing people glazing this stuff when the vast majority of fansubs to do anything involving "special" subs was hyper obnoxious garbage. I remember watching one forgettable show where they subbed the OP song and every single line covered up 50% of the screen because it was animated on a giant cg bullet going across the screen and leaving a flame trail.
