the ending is the most important part of any storya good ending can elevate even a mediocre storya bad ending can destroy even the best masterpiece
all lives will end in death (yes including yours), does that make them worthless?
>>290797389yes, life is meaninglessthe only point of life is reproductionbut we are not talking about irl, we're talking about man made stories
>>290797180Completely and totally wrong. Most important part of a series is the beginning, not ending. It does not matter how good the ending is if the beginning is not good enough to attract an audience to follow the series to its end. All long running series became popular because of their beginning no matter how bad the ending turned out to be.
>>290797733false, if a story is axed = bad ending
>>290797180>>290797778The Iliad would like to have a word with you
>>290797733Your take is only valid if we reduce a story simply to it´s economic value but i believe OP is talking about the value of stories. What the story leaves the audience with, that´s the most important part. The beginning is obviously necessary because the ending can only be good if the character underwent a meaningful life changing transformation throughout the events that make up the story. You need the beginning to be able to appreciate the ending but since the message only becomes entirely evident by the end the ending remains the most important part.

>>290797180Correct, if you can't nail the ending then you essentially flushed everything that led up to it down the toilet. See Megalo Box S1 ending.
>>290797895what about it?the Illiad ending fits the storywhen Hector dies, Troy is finished, normal people are insignificant, it's the heroes that shape history and they are at the whims of the gods
>>290797778>>290798032>>290797979Except there is no point of the good ending if the beginning was never good to begin with because most people will drop it before the ending. The reason series like Attack On Titan became groundbreaking success that still talked about despite its atrocious ending is purely because of its beginning. If you can't nail the beginning of the story than it will never have any value.
>>290797180Naruto proved your thoughts wrong.
>>290799040It was never Hector story, its about a kingdom falling apart because its idiot prince decided to steal another man's wife and then the entire kingdom made the stupidest mistake of bringing the Trojan Horse inside the city instead of just burning it outside.
>>290798032DELETE THIS
>>290797180Mediocre story with mediocre ending
>>290797180You can also just don't end your storyWe've got examples galore: Berserk for one. From other media as well; the most well-known classical piece of Latin literature is Aeneid and it was left unfinished by the author.>>290799040>the Illiad ending fits the storyThe story in the first line says it's about wrath of Achilles>Menen, aide thea Peleiadeo AchilleusOf the wrath, sing Goddess, Peleid Achilles'.We don't even see the end of his life. It's another tradition from another epic of the Troyan Cycle.
>>290797180I regret ever criticizing generic happy endings and pairing off the cast into couples. we need to go back
