Baku hid one of the L file crimes that Kakerou is protecting under one of the panels so a different referee was dispatched to stop the gamble
Meanwhile Midara has a duty to make sure the gamble doesn't stop
In short, Kakerou on Kakerou violence

It's not explained super well imo, but basically the murder case panel is going to reveal a new alibi for the guy whose alibi was supposed to be erased by kakerou. All the evidence they've presented so far has left the erased alibi alone so there wasn't a problem with it, but this one would basically invalidate the result of a kakerou match, so people were sent to stop it. But at the same time a valid game is being played, so Midara is obligated to see it through.
>>
>>290803145
He wasnt half bad looking when he was younger in the extras right?
>>
>>290803095
The murder case is going to reveal that an innocent dude was framed
Since he was framed using a Kakerou gamble, it means Kakerou decided to stop the gamble since they need to enforce the result of the previous one

They do, but the evidence that Baku and gang prepared for them was based around incriminating the perpetrator, not exonerating the scape goat directly. Because the thing people lose in L-file gambles is their alibi, they don't get automatically arrested, they just don't have a defense if they get accused of a crime.
With the murder panel, Baku is planning on giving the scapegoat an alibi, which is the real problem

Sako's movement and angles really get better as it goes on. He's had nice sequencing and had a unpolished idea but you can start seeing the stylishness and more cool shots start coming through.
Is this around the time when he started fighting amateurishly irl? Or was that the next arc where he became a boxer(?).

>Which makes me wonder why the other panel crimes are in the L file if they don’t involved someone getting scapegoated?
Yukiide had a list of free dates which are linked to a crime.
If you reread the early parts of the gamble, you'd see in the description of the first uncovered crimes they haven't found a culprit yet. Only the murder case has one.
Just because someone is registered into the L-File doesn't mean they got a scapegoat for his crime yet. Even Ikuto did his murder a few years before Kaji goombled his alibi.

Yeah he beat the guy that basically held the title ceremonially (since numbers didn't mean shit back then) and thinks he's god because of it.
Funnily enough Kyara gave the rank some meaning again since he refused to be anything lower than no. 0 because he was the strongest.
The current number 0 also holds the title for a similar reason

The technical age of consent in japan is 14 or so and the government has extensive restrictions on pornography itself, and there's already a cultural obsession with women's youth between loli and idols, so culturally one who goes against society's interest through murder (killing off potential workers) is more vile than someone who just likes young girls (everyone likes young girls, baka.)

Unironically, it'd be like talking about bestiality in latin american countries. It's not that it isn't taboo there, but it does not reflect nearly as poorly as it would do in the northern west comparatively. In a more likely answer than just "it's a culture thing," pedophilia and sex crimes are a lot more difficult to portray properly and Sako may have not felt up to the idea at the time.

For the karamete to succeed in full Baku needs everyone listed in the L file to be afraid, including the ones who already had a scapegoat punished for them. It also gives him a little more insight into how kakerou works and how they resolve conflicts like this, though that's probably just a bonus. Finally having other referees fight a bunch could reduce the competition for number 0, even if only slightly.
Even if the broadcast were to be stopped partway through, by having shown part of the case there is still a chance for a full karamete success, especially if Karl delivers a good speech in the next broadcast.

It doesn't need to know that at all, the initial card distribution basically takes care of that. Person A gets 10 cards each with the electronic signal "A", person B gets cards with "B" etc. Then the card box accepts all "A" cards until it has accepted a number equal to
>10 MINUS (number of rounds where A didn't drop a card).

Using other people's cards is considered valid, even if your own cards are zero. And similarly if all your cards are destroyed you're counted as having zero cards and you won't get the automatic 1 card contribution every round.

>>
>>290815079
>Using other people's cards is considered valid, even if your own cards are zero.
Of course. Nothing in my post goes against that.
>And similarly if all your cards are destroyed you're counted as having zero cards and you won't get the automatic 1 card contribution every round.
This could be solved with an additional card counter that captures "all" the cards (let's say it captures all chips with the same type the cards are using within that room). Then you can differentiate used cards, usable cards, and "destroyed" cards (and you always know who those cards belonged to and thus how many cards each player has left in theory). In this example a card thrown out the window would also count as "destroyed" but I think we can safely assume kakerou will prevent that to preserve the integrity of the match.
>>

Actually, the system does need to know that. If you are holding 0 cards, you will be counted as dropping 0 cards that turn, even if you have dropped fewer than 10 cards total.

That's why Kaji needed to grab Nitro's 1 card, to hide that he was holding several more cards. Because the system would automatically count his dropped card as 1 that turn, because he was holding a card.

In short, the system somehow knows if you are holding cards or not and that´doesn't make sense.
>>
>>290815846
>because he was holding a card
because he was holding several cards* and Kaji wanted Karasuyama to think that Kaji was only holding that 1 card from Nitro.

Mild spoiler There's another reason.

>>290815846
Cards that are broken are registered as 'spent', the sensor only registers if a valid card is placed through it. There has to be a second system in play that tracks the state of valid cards and the amount of cards a player 'has' that is not really elaborated on.

This also threw me off a bit when I was reading it, but it's ultimately quite irrelevant as it would all work essentially the same without it, which is a bit silly too.
>>
>>290816175
>There has to be a second system in play that tracks the state of valid cards and the amount of cards a player 'has' that is not really elaborated on.

Yes I agree, that is the only logical explanation. I feel like the game would be more elegant if the system was more "dumb" but oh well.

It's not really an internal dispute though. From what leader said at the missile silo, he needs Usogui to fight the guy on the phone for him, Billy.

The pool scene was straight duplicity. Leader needs Usogui to exploit the file. He should just say "Sorry bald wheelchair, I'm fucking you hard." Instead of being a weasel about it

That's why Usogui is immensely more enjoyable on rereads, you pick up all kinds of shit and discover on just how many levels the plot operates. The downside of this is that it can be a little confusing on a first read at times, but even then you have some jangling keys in the form of the fights keeping you entertained

Yes, absolutely. The Labyrinth arc has many Megami Tensei similarities with Kadokura's comments about how the labyrinth would be more interesting if it had pitfalls and traps, and the law / chaos dichotomy. It would be more unlikely if it was just coincidental.

And what is the first boss of the first Megami Tensei game? A minotaur. Hm, and the next boss is Medusa aka a snake woman... Hmmmmm

nta and true but the whole law vs chaos thing was a main series staple for years. I guess it's more accurate to say that ultimately both Sako and Atlus are drawing inspiration from Tokyo itself for the setting, but Sako does come across like a big-time gamer. When he isn't busy being xenophobic on twitter (based), drawing manga (supremely based considering it's bi-weekly), posting about his wife (based) or his martial arts (based)

MT 2 > SMT 1 > 3 > SMT 2 > 4 > MT 1 > IF > 5
objective truth btw.
>>290823477
There's also so many little reoccurring details and jokes I never realised too.
Actually, this is probably not entirely related but Togashi (Hxh) did an interview where he said he was very inspired by FKMT for the Greed Island arcs, and noted that FKMT had good lines and was very novel-like with the planning and such. FKMT also said that manga readers tend to be reading more than looking at the images, akin to novel more than movie.
What I really like about Sako's works in comparison and I'd say Morikawa and Itagaki are the same ilk in different strokes is that blend the two together. All the details and planning are woven in and out of the images themselves, All the little bits of storytelling with expressions. It feels like a complete working world rather than just characters pushing the world, in a sense. Baki always does this by having characters always feel like they're doing something away from the rest of the cast, which FKMT tends to not really do that much. Itagaki's retarded randomness never feels too far off game, he sells it completely.
BNHA is a kinda anti-example of Sako/Itagaki's entire perspective style, it has decent world building but everyone is just frozen until Deku (and Hawks a little) interacts with them, and then suddenly they're zipped straight away and ready to go (the class reunion is bad for this). The entire story feels disjointed and not really a cohesive world in the end (For example Redestro's speech to Hilary Clinton supposing to be foreshadowing for Nagant but then it's all completely dropped.) Usogui, also being a jump manga really nails at keeping everything completely consistent within the world and everything falls in defined sensibilities even outside of Baku's control. (I don't mean consistent in a always the same, but always believable sense.)
I'm not really a good enough wordsmith to really divine the difference.

I kind of like something in Usogui where there's a panel that's a character's eyes and immediately under it is a panel that matches the eye placement with the jaws and mouth having a certain expression, and there's a sort of ambiguity whether the two belong to the same character or if it's the visual observation of the a character's jaw from the PoV of the character's eyeballs. In this arc for example, Baku was looking at Midara's expression I think

NINE > All

nah it's
if... > II > I > III >> NINE >> MT I
II has objectively the most boring dungeons and broken combat of all, but I replay it so I must like it somehow. Neat how the story is a logical conclusion to SMT I. SMT I be like "You can give the world order and stability, or chaos and freedom" and SMT II asks "Yeah, but what happens in time? Humans eventually return to order."

I feel like the Law / Chaos dichotomy was not meant to be used past SMT II.

I is iconic. Atmosphere, story, visuals, music... The gameplay is boring, with easy combat and very simple dungeons. I can see why people say it's their favorite tho. It's the most SMT SMT.

III is probably objectively close to the top but I need to replay it to confirm.

NINE is unfinished but the atmosphere and pre-rendered backgrounds are great. The Matrix like setting ties into the game's Gnosticism theme. Ok but this game is empty like a dead MMO (cause it kinda is).

MT I is an impressive game with how HUGE its dungeons are and the amount of demons in it. This game has the 3 most CBT dungeons ever back-to-back-to-back: Mazurkah, Rotting Sea of Flames, and Infini. Level draining enemies, constant hp drain, or HUGE sprawling floors that drain your time and sanity. Pick your poison.
I really respect MT I. It's a real challenge and the devs don't care if you beat it or not. So I guess it's not bad, just really painful.

if... is my favorite, I replayed it a bunch of times across both versions. The gameplay is easily the best of classic SMT, with actually functioning combat and challenging, thematic dungeons (except Sloth, yes that one sucks). Like how Pride is like a tower, with the boss on top, or Gluttony twists and turns in on itself, like intestines... it's neat. Atmosphere is amazing and isolating, story is minimal but effective, Hazama's loneliness is felt. The Tower of Confinement in Akira's route is a cool setting.

>>290824576
BASED Digital Devil Saga is kino.

>>290824114
nta, but I kind of like using examples of products that don't follow what I'm discussing myself for contrast. Sort of helps highlight what you appreciate or want to point out, in this case it's foreshadowing and good follow-through on planning, especially compared to BNHA. I think BNHA has some redeemable parts but it sort of lost the plot fairly early on. Were it not for Bones animating it, I think it wouldn't make it very far
>>
>>290824049
Better than Oda who inspired itself from Kengan Omega for the writing of Elbaph.
>>
>>290824699
I kind of agree here, I think 1 is the most foundational for what SMT is, but it was iterated on to perfection with something like 2 and Nocturne. I'm more of an enjoyer of the more avant-garde nature of DDS though, even if it isn't really SMT the same way Raidou isn't SMT or Persona isn't "really" SMT, but it's essentially a sister series. Shame it undersold though, but the principles of it got used for later Persona games and Metaphor.
>>
>>290824776
I like how Nocturne's alignments are strictly about Law and Chaos, but very specific visions of how the world should be. For the most part at least, Chiaki's Yosuga is pretty much classic Chaos.

Regarding the "what is SMT and what is not" question, Atlus confused us westerners by putting the SMT header on games like DDS; Raidou, and Persona 3 when they never had the SMT header in Japan.

Megami Tensei is a franchise, which contains many series. One series is Shin Megami Tensei. Another is Devil Summoner, which includes Raidou. There's Persona, Last Bible, Devil Children etc....

tl;dr Shin Megami Tensei is just one out of many series under the Megami Tensei umbrella.
>>
>>290824883
>I like how Nocturne's alignments are strictly about Law and Chaos
they are NOT strictly about Law and Chaos, I mean.
>>
>>290824699
I is kind of a very funny game that gets often dismissed but the constant tempo and escalation of the plot gives it a very special place for me. It's really experimental in a way because you see the devs sort of guessing an unifying framework for all these wacky ideas shot at lightning speed ("you fight yukio mishima who wants to ascend humanity by fusing the human world with what he thinks are the kamis but ackually he was sort of led on by lilith in a proxy war against God" just being like in the first 5 hours) that keep this general tendency of the situation just becoming worse and worse. It's really unique even today, even with II and IV refining some of its concepts.

Yeah I get your meaning. Though, as another bonus, I've always found it hilarious how both Chaos and Order characters fundamentally have insanely warped and hilariously villainous perspectives. It's based that no one in any of those games does things by half, it's always
>Absolute control, free will is a myth
or
>ANARCHY, MURDER KILL MAIM, MIGHT MAKES RIGHT REEEEEE
Though you can never *quite* tell who belongs with what until they start speaking
>>
>>290825117
Yeah, that's another issue with it. I felt like it was done best in SMT II, not because the Law option isn't radical, but because it is and it's fucking awesome. Then Chaos is reasonable, and Neutral kind of kicks the can down the road, inevitably leading to the Messians gaining control again. Again, like a counter-argument to SMT I.

Whereas newer games with alignments seem to have forgotten that and went back to SMT I, making neutral the only reasonable choice.
>>
>>290825050
>Just doesn't have that refinement.
So interesting you say that. To me, it at least has the most refined gameplay with good combat balance and challenging dungeons. Akira's route especially makes you really manage your resources as you climb and safe spots become few and far between.
I guess you mean other aspects of the game?

>I guess my replay of it just soured me quite hard.
Again, that's interesting cause I like it more every time. I notice little details, just liike in Usogui. Like why are the bosses in Akira's route from Zoroastrianism, except Mammon, while the Zoroastrian deity Angra Manyu is randomly in the final dungeon of the normal routes? Maybe Mammon took Angra's place.
Then in the SMT KHAN manga, they actually say that Angra was confined because he wouldn't follow Hazama. That was neat.

I never played Wizardry, and honestly I'm a bit frightened to cause when I start something, I often feel like I have to finish it.
>>
>>290825533
>finishing something when you start it
Likewise, my current apprehension for starting Rebirth or SMTV currently
