seriously? that's it?
>i heard you wanted some protagonists, here's a bunch of random cops with 0 background information.

>"yeah i'll merge with this ai because uhh.... j-just because OKAY!?!?!"
i went into this with high hopes. i expected it to be as good as SAC, but with more humor.
it turned out to be so incredibly half-baked. they spent so much time on animation that they forgot they actually had to write something. i don't remember paz having a single line of dialogue.

well yeah that's my whole point. the anime is heavy on visuals and light on story.
shit just kinda happens because it looks cool for the most part.
other interpretations of the manga are properly written.

Is a series where nothing matters, the author is only good at drawing.

Character development is a spook.
It focused on what mattered rather than becoming a slice of life about every person that appeared in the story.

He apparently thinks Innocence is better than 1995 so maybe he's not so bad.
>>
>>290814607
Innocence is actually good.
Oshii's miasma that he spreads onto every project he's given creative freedom over, actually works well in it compared to the 1995 film.
The much maligned quote dumping works in it, for example. Because it plays into the 'everyone is a doll' style. Everyone speaks in regurgitated quotes like a doll with a voicebox.
While the 1995 film is kinda a lesser version of the original manga, Innocence actually works as a project.

Mostly that it uses that source material to tell a sufficiently different story compared to the intent of the original.
The change with Kim from Batou's darker twin to a totally different character that conveys a different message to the viewer, is something that sets it apart from the original enough to comfortably stand alone.

>>
>>290815212
If you were alive in 90s, you would know that the only reason why 1995 GITS got "popular" was because it's one of those "you don't get it, you weren't there" moments. Western manga & anime fans were at the time in a state of sensory deprivation, there was so little content available, and they were mocked by everybody for watching weird porno- cartoons for kids (sic).
A bitter GenXer would praise GITS with passion of an al quaeida fanatic praying to his allah. You weren't allowed to said a single bad thing about it. It was a hostile action towards the fandom and popularization of the anime. A chill millennial who already had an access to a dozen of titles acknowledges the superb animation and aesthetics, but also sees the flaws. It was planned to be an award- winning export good for the West with all consequences. It tried to hard to be "serious", character design was a middle ground between the manga and "realistic" western animation, the writing is so "deep" that it deserves to be brutally cut.
Cults built by easily impressed GenXers won't survive the test of time.

Yeah, turns out Masamune was way more interested in jerking off, than writting a coherent story. So the show is pretty manga-accurate.

I find that the manga and gits '26 do not have this structure:

Exposition
Rising Action
Climax
Falling Action
Resolution

It is a strange work. It's as if it was not meant to tell a traditionally structured story but rather a series of exposition dumps of speculation regarding the structure of the universe with some episodic events surrounding characters in a near-future world added as a hook.

I've seen the hand-posting fairy do his schtick elsewhere. Anyway, yes this is perfectly fine so long as page impressions go up :^)

The pacing in this anime was so fucking bad. Maybe the manga was better because you have more time to read the exposition, but having to pause the fucking video everytime they wanted to spew massive amounts of information, or those year long time skips mid episode was absolutely retarded to have in the anime.
>>
>>290816522
Yeah, it isn't a conventional narrative.
It's a fly on the wall experience following the Super Cops for some of the time, and an exploration of synthetic intelligence and it's link to the soul the rest of the time.
>>
>>290816661
this is what happens when you adapt one work into another medium basically 1:1

Sometimes it just doesn't work due to the differences in those mediums.
>>
>>290816522
It's basically an improvised series of short stories, with a loose plot formed around.
If you're familiar with the older sort of magazine science fiction and the 'fix-up' (e.g. Asimov's I, Robot or Foundation for perhaps the most famous examples) the style will be more familiar.
The way it's dialogue-driven and often alludes to characters and factions that have a role in the plot but never appear 'onscreen' is also part of this style.
>>
>>290816893
I, Robot is a good comparison because you have that loose structure of each of the laws, but then the digressions are basically independent of one another. But you have a linear timeline all the same.
>>
>>290816661
the thing is that there's no reason to pause because all of the information is meaningless bullshit that leads to nothing.
they have these massive exposition dumps and in the end it's all irrelevant. the dialogue is white noise.
>>
>>290819041
What was white noise?
All of the major exposition dumps were very relevant for the episode they were in.
>>
>>290819897
I think he means they were a bunch of technobabble nonsense. If anything forget Eva, the GITS manga was the true 2deep4u Japanese work.
>>
>>290819897
It seemed topical but incoherent.
Felt like listening to some tatted up white woman yap about kundalini energy and vibrating crystal chakras.
>>
>>290814075
They're gonna combine?
>>
>>290820332
As above, so below.
The universe's shape and structure is a fractal pattern. We should emulate this fractal pattern in our systems and intellectual forces in order to achieve the best stability and durability.
That is all there is to it.
>>
>>290820332
>>290820701
I mean yeah it's literally bog-standard New Age esoterica, complete with a bit of pseudoscientific flavoring to make it gel better with the sci-fi setting. Plenty of science fantasy settings have that, they just never bother getting into the weeds of how it works.

Oshii saw that stuff went "Okay, but what if you could never tell if that stuff is for real ? Could you fake it? Would it matter if it's fake? Would it be worth it? " that's why there's a shitload of symbolic imagery but nothing that's provably supernatural in the film, and also why the tactical/political plot itself doesn't reflect those ideas like the plot of the manga does.
>>
>>290819897
they make all these references to conspiracies and organizations and countries that are all just loose threads in the end.
the antagonists barely qualify as characters,
i don't remember any of their names or motivations.
the only thing memorable about them is that they look weird.
it's a collection of random freaks for motoko to kill.

the need for adaptation
the need for diversity and redundancy

the relationships between the system and its components

etc
etc
all that shit has happened to her firsthand, therefore she knows the AI already agrees with her on just about everything that matters to her.
