So I have a question about Isekai novels and medieval Europe. And it's about Shops and Stores also money and clothes.

It's clear that most Japanese never do research about what life was like in the villages and cities, but what strikes me as odd is that they don't even have first hand experience. So this is more a history buff question. Was Japan from 1950s-1970s so advanced they had all of these even in the rural areas?

It's clear a lot of them just copy paste DQ or some other setting with adventurers guilds and crap but why do all the cities and villages seem so unrealistic and modern?

I'm reading a manga called Ashita mo Ii Hi de Arimasu you ni and the guy goes and meets a Egg Seller and then a Ranch farmer. These jobs are way too specific and industrial to make any sense in this setting.

I grew up in former Yugoslavia. My grandparents didn't have electricity until 1975 because they lived in a Rural area. There was no "shops" everyone had their own chickens, their own gardens, their own surpluses of goods they sold and traded. Clothes were made by hand and art and pictures were made via stitching stuff like "Wiehler Gobelin" basically pixel art with embroidery.

Was Japan really so damn advanced that everyone had power, food, shops and everyone was specialized and none of these artists ever taked to their grandparents about the old times? My grandparents woudn't shut up how bad it was then and how good it is now with Fridges, Washing Machines etc...

Fantasy isn't historical

First off. You are on a website full of bad actors spreading propaganda. Do not believe anything here. Infact if you take any facts. Assume they are harmfull.

Second. They are fantasies. That's the summary.

naroupe isn't a historical setting its an MMORPG setting, hence the menus and skill trees and rare loot and self-replenishing dungeons

It doesn't take more effort to write things one way compared to the other, but keep arguing that "it's fantasy" and that's why it should be closer to modern real life instead of actually being fantastical? You just want urban slop with a coat of paint.

Yes but it's literally distracting me how badly it's all structured.

It's all so modern and in a "Japanese burble" and I can't tell if this is the result of the artists never leaving Japan or if Japan was infact that advanced for such a long time that they can't even imagine anything else.

I visited all over Japan you really have to go to buttfuck nowhere Shikoku, Hokkaido or Totori/Shimane to get a slight decrease in services like Matsue recently got Starbucks and it was a big thing since that means they now all the chain stores you can find everywhere.

See thats another thing, nobody goes into acutal detail about this shit.

If you had a place where infinite resources appeared how would that affect the economy. Why would anyone mine for say metals if you can kill monsters to get Iron? Why would anyone farm if you can kill monsters to get food?

What are the consequences of most of the population being employed in say Adventuring and dungeon hunting? What is the average lifespan of an adventurer?
One big monster boar seems to have enough meat to feed an entire village for 3 months yet they spawn like crazy in dungeons.

The whole societal structure flips if you don't need to farm or mine for resources that would mean most people would be employed in some sort of recycling and refinement jobs.

I really wish someone as thoughtful and adept and economics as Isuna Hasekura would tackle isekai.

Isekai is escapism. The readers want to get away from the tediousness of modern life but they don't want to hear about the tediousness of medieval life so they keep all the convenient things they can get away with.
Whenever there's a beach chapter the girls always have modern bikinis with fabrics that didn't exist back then.
Or just the clothes are so colorful to be appealing when some colors were in reality not available or very very expensive to obtain.
Just shut your brain off.

Isekai is based on the Japanese RPG. What makes a JRPG is the shop. A shop is a callback to the d&d roots of a RPG where you bought equipment that you then used that equipment to slay monsters from the d&d beastiary™ in an epic adventure. It symbolizes the freedom you have in the game-you can walk to a shop. You can not walk to the shop and go somewhere else in the map instead. The shop hints at the great map--just look at this great map, that you've yet to explore and this combination forms the makings of a coherent world. You can tell it's a JRPG from the moment you see a shop. If it lacks a shop, is it even a RPG? I begin to doubt it. It's now something else. A mere hallway storyboard navigator.

I can't they're autistlically showing me how to make a entire meal recipe but they keep using Modern Japanese kitchen tools, and they keep making Mayonnaise with expensive as fuck ingridients such as salt.
Also their flour is white and perfectly ground.

Look man i like spice and wolf too, but you can't expect every story to go on as much detail as it did
>>
>>290815316
I think people who care that much about that sort of precision tend to just write historicals.

It's also pretty funny how all the vegetables are almost always the same and everyone ignores how much selective breeding did for us as a species.
The Corn Japanese consider corn aka Sweetcorn wasn't developed until the the last 100 years. Before that it was more like gourme good and you need to pick it at the milk stage when the sugars aren't' converted to starch yet and the gene that makes that possible is recessive.
>>
>>290815831
Well yeah, our fruits wouldn't exist especially the new world ones, but that's why it's fantasy

It's not about new world ones, I can get over that it's fantasy as you say. It's about how fruit and vegetables evolved. Most root vegetables were well just roots.
Most fruit prioritized have a big seed that can survive the intestinal tracts of animals with just enough meat to make them eat it. Most grains were just grass with a tiny amount of starch seeds.

>closer to modern real life instead of actually being fantastical
The claim here is that it should be historical, which if anything would be less fantastical.
>>
>>290816016
I can see the connection with isekai novels, but not with medieval Europe.
>>
>>290815464
If they wanted to put more effort into it they would not be writing isekai

There is a manga for you it's called Isekai Ryorido the cook is basically fucked because he has nothing you'd expect in terms of tools, spices, knowledge or anything and hes sent back to something like Ancient Romeish with the people hosting him being barbarian hunter gatherers. And he has to experiment and fail.
>>
>>290816050
yes because they aren't "directly" medieval
>>
>>290816062
>Medieval euro inspired d&D
False. D&D was inspired by fantasy literature.
>>290816100
They aren't at all medieval or European.
>>
>>290815979
How far back do you want to go. For most it's Dragon Quest, for stuff like Record of Lodoss War it's DnD.

Then it sort of compounded on each others tropes to create this basically "Japanese Gameish Medival Setting" that everyone uses with skills, levels, shops, blacksmiths, adamantium/orichalcum/mithril/hihi-irokane(緋々色金) also Damascus
>>
wait but which fantasy, because it isn't the japanese one
>>
>>290816100
There are Renaissance elements. It's a mixed setting.
>>
>>290816132
>For most it's Dragon Quest, for stuff like Record of Lodoss War it's DnD
None of those are anything to do with medieval Europe.

If you guys can't understand the idea of suspension of disbelief then you shouldn't be reading fiction at all.

In a lot of European languages gobelin is synonymous with tapestry as they made dyed materials cheap enough for commoners to make tapestry or embroidery a hobby or art for households. Then later when printing became mass scale with the industrial revolution people started making basically 2D Pixel Art books and manuals so everyone had a piece of paper telling them how to create pictures regardless of actual skill by following the manuals.

That's incredibly sad and I am sorry.
