How are these movies so good? They remind me of Oshii's Patlabors, as well as Top Gun and Starship Troopers. I love the raw 80-90s masculinity and machismo they exude. Such a breath of fresh air after all that modern feminine zoomer trash like gcuuuck, g-witch and IBO. The sound design is top notch. Love the sound of engines when the mechs are in flight. The street brawl in the first movie reminded me of the iconic scene in Heat. Action and mech scenes are all top class. Characters designs are well done as well. Like classic gundam characters, but a bit slicker. So many great character designs. Pure delight to look at them. Julia is such a naughty little tease. Gigi too, obviously.The Hathaway films are peak Gundam to me, and easily some of the best anime movies I've seen in the last ten years.

I don't get the hype. I did enjoy the first movie but I still don't like it as much as many other Gundam entries. I also think the backgrounds often look like shit. I've had people act surprised when I say that but I don't see how you could think they look good.
