Now that the dust has well and truly settled, what went so very, very wrong?

It was fine, I don't know why so many people were expecting Oshii but even longer, all the adaptations of GITS have been different.

Because 1995 and Stand Alone Complex elevated and built on the source material. They imagine a bigger, more interesting world and set a dense atmosphere. Being a straight adaptation, this one proudly displays all of Shirow's flaws as features without fixing anything.
The manga might have been groundbreaking for its time, but that doesn't mean it was a great story. Something like Neuromancer actually holds up better despite being older.

I see you are also a man of culture.

>>290851491
Low budget slop from a shit animation studio instead of being treated as a premium product with big budget and big talent (like Chainsaw Man was for example)
>>
Nothing.
It might just feel like an ambush shortly as we were starting to recover from GiTS fatigue..
>>
>>290851491
Shitty art, animation, woke. GitS is the movie and SAC, Oshii won

>Something like Neuromancer actually holds up better despite being older.
i'm tired of seeing this circlejerk around neuromancer, i swear to god it will be this generation's 1984 - not in the sense that it'll come true, but that it'll be this completely misunderstood work whose distance from the times that inspired it will only allow dumbfucks to spurt poetic loads about how it "defined the future" or "was such a groundbreaking novel" when it's literally william gibson writing a poor man's gritty detective noir novel with "three megs of hot ram" and "rom constructs" thrown in to make sure you don't forget its teh future!!!! jack in case!!!!! i have razors under my fingers!!!!!

When you wanna focus on ze funnies but are too much of a limp dicked fag to skip the endless exposition dumps and make it work without. Even the animation went for an anti-serious direction, but then you still trivia dump like there's no tomorrow. Terrible.

I had read 1.0 before this finished and my take away was I enjoyed the manga for what it was and appreciated it for what came after (movie/SAC). At first I was intrigued, but about episode 5 or 6 was when I got some mixed feelings.

Pacing is a bit too fast for my liking, especially with on screen texting explaining something specific where you need to pause to read it, this works better in manga form where you can read at your own pace and reanalyze pages to your liking. Although I don't think adding an episode or two would have fixed this, just the nature of the story.

The animation and art direction were fine, pretty nice at times but character expressions could look a bit weird at times, mostly to play up the playfulness seen in the original manga. Along with the pacing, sometimes scene composition could be a little wonky, but otherwise I thought the camera work for the action scenes were pretty great.

This felt like just a way to get new people into the series which is fine, I thought it was decent for what it was trying to achieve. Still need to read 1.5 & 2.0, im wondering if they're considering going to adapt them into their own anime? Mildly doubtful but idk how well this show is doing, probably decent I imagine but maybe not enough for a new season covering the later material.

Reducing Neuromancer to some crime novel with some sci-fi babble is really doing a disservice to how evocative and moody Gibson's prose is. Sure, the content of the book wouldn't look out of place in a dimestore novel and it's clearly meant to be a pleasure read, but I think the quality of the writing and how it leaves you with a grim and vague resolution ultimately elevate the material.

Where's the aggressive anti-shilling for this show coming from? Every episode I'm wowed by how well-done it is and then I come to /a/ and the threads are full of this hate that feels very forced.
The last episode felt anti-climactic but it's still an ezy 9/10. Glad I could better grasp what the Puppet Master was going on about in this one

That and 1984 was just CIA propaganda from a guy that was on their payroll.

For those who want the George Orwell tea - George Orwell was a colonial policeman who called the people he oppressed "anti white agitators", could "never quite get myself to dislike Hitler", wrote about the USSR despite never going there, and was LITERALLY BIG BROTHER from 1984 as he sent in lists of suspected Socialists and gay people. And that's ignoring how his books were published and translated by many of the anti-Communism leagues, including the CIA. He was a Right-Wing propagandist.

George Orwell (real name Eric Arthur Blair) was many things: a rapist, a bitter anti-Communist, a colonial cop, a racist, a Hitler apologist, a plagiarist, a snitch, and a CIA puppet.
