A new Eat-Man anime has been announced, Eat-Man: The Over Order.
Ebara Masashi will reprise his role as Bolt Crank, a laconic post-apocalypse wanderer who eats guns.

This was not on my list at all. Loved the '97 adaptation but I heard it veered heavily from the manga and that the '98 adaptation is closer to the manga but also more boring.
I assume this new project will follow the manga faithfully, as it's usual nowadays, but I'm left wondering if it will be for the better or not.
Time to check out the '98 version until this new one comes out, I guess.

>Shunji Ōga (Romance of Three Kingdoms, several Soreike! Anpanman films, Golgo 13 chief director) is directing the new anime at Studio Cab. Original manga creator Yoshitomi is in charge of scripts and original designs, and Satoshi Hirayama (Cat's Eye season 2, Lupin III specials, Lupin III vs. Detective Conan The Movie) will adapt Yoshitomi's character designs for animation.

Pretty much exactly how I feel. I don't watch much new stuff these days but I'll get on board for this.

The sequel manga wasn't as good but this is an under appreciated series. Maybe its worth storytelling it. I bet most people folks never read it

I always enjoyed the chapters like 5 volume later could call back to a random story element or character you almost forgot about.

The main thing I remember about the anime was how good the soundtrack was

Tell me about it. I still listen to it to this day. "I Ask" is basically a The Doors song.

And then you have fucking Yuki Kajiura on the B-Side straight out of an 80's movie

Really loved the original series, I wonder what happened that made them do '98 so quickly after the first. They were both animated by Deen but with different directors. Did the author complain? I heard '98 was supposed to be "closer to the manga" but it definitely didn't stand out to me as much. The original was great, it played with some experimental editing and the whole thing had a surreal dreamlike quality to it. They also gave Bolt notable red glasses and reveled in the chaotic neutral imagery, if not making him look downright demonic at times.

Story time!?

What's eat-man?

I would reread along if anyone actually does it. It's a long series and the sequel is still worth checking oit to continue fleshing out the mystery on what is Bolt vs Leon

A show about a man who eats.

Nice Trips

Is there an easy way to storytime these days?
The scripts I had from a decade ago don't work

Future-Noir series about a mercenary ("adventurer") wandering around a post-fall society littered with the remnants of the past civilization's technology, who eats metal and drinks gasoline. He can reconstruct guns he eats out of his hand. He goes around taking morally grey jobs and stoicly interacting with various femme fatales. He speaks little, but says much. The backdrops are punctuated by an omnipresent wrecked airship always floating in the sky as a testament to man's hubris.
>>
The concept sound fun, but does he do interesting things with his power or just gun arm and sword arm every time?

A few times yeah. It isn't really so much about his power as it is him acting as a moral mirror to all the villains and opportunists he comes across that try to use him. He has something of a psychopompic quality to him in the original series.

Couldn't tell you about '98 cause they toned down most of these philosophical aspects and I didn't finish it.

His power is he can recreate anything he eats. Dont think it even needs to be his hand. Often what he recreated is a weapon for the story. One chapter he's hired to help repair an artifact

Some of my favorite chapters was when it was metaphysical.
Maybe I'll story time a chapter or two and see if people want to so all 19 volumes
