It gave stakes the audience didn’t have enough time to register and worst of all the plot was left hanging and open-ended for over a decade. >>290859538I watched s1 and the one non-recap movie (I believe it's the 3rd one) for the first time last week because I wanted to see the new movie in the cinema. It's good but it's overrated, if you expect a 10/10 masterpiece you will be disappointed, if you watch it expecting sad dark magical girl yuribait it's a pretty good. The movie is a bit abstract and hard to understand tho, s1 is way more straightforward. The art style on both is pretty unique and beautiful. The characters feel a bit tropey and retarded, I guess they're kids but still, it feels like the whole conflict of the s1 could be solved by a certain character communicating a bit better instead of speaking in riddles for literally no reason, another character goes from almost fighting someone to death over a philosophical difference to sacrificing her life for the same character in the span of one episode.
