I think this is the first time I've gotten so invested in a yuri relationship, mostly because I didn't expect to fall so hard for Mari. This girl is legitimately lonely, more than anyone else in the story. She likes boxing, but she's surrounded by older senpais who don't seem to take her seriously. She talks to Gon-chan because she doesn't seem to have any human friends. She has absolutely no romance in her life, no one seems to even recognize her as a woman. And while the rest of her family is supportive, she clearly misses her mother specifically.Lara became her soulmate, and you can see how much she's hurt anytime Lara goes away. She gets legitimately frustrated listening to Lara talk about "true love", clearly feeling left out by this topic. And once Lara is truly gone, she finally admits to herself that she's lonely, and she wants Lara to be there for her.This kind of relationship is incredibly compelling, and I wanna see both of these girls embrace each other happily more than anything.

The gist of episode 12 is that Mori arrives at Okinawa Island and encounters a soon-to-disappear anglerfish and Lisa helplessly watching. Lisa verbally attacks Mori but doesn't stop her from going to Lala's side. Mori eventually reaches Lala in her mermaid form (so beautiful!). Lala tells Mori not to get too close, otherwise she might accidentally kill her. Then Lala plans to use her fish sword to end her own life, breaking the mermaid curse (she doesn't want to kill Mori): there is no future for mermaids and humans! But Mori ignores her and tells Lala: "You were born to love, weren't you?" At this moment, the fish sword pierces Mori and devours the jewel that seems to be Mori's soul. Lala cries bitterly because of Mori's death. She starts smashing the fish sword, destroying half of it. Then the fish sword opens its maw and devours Lala as well. Lala searches for Mori inside the fish sword, but the inside is full of spikes that trap her. Flashbacks with Mori begin to flash again, and her princess power breaks the spikes. I have been saying this since episode 5, if it was really going to be explicit then one of the translators for the show i follow would've been over the moon in the group. It's still a good yuri but delusional to expect kiss especially when the team leading it is new one.
When asked regarding the kiss that was not shown, Koide said in the QA panel afterwards that they had to cut it for the TV version but there will be an extended version of episode 12 for the blu rays.
