"Demon King" is a bit more like a few different titles that commonly get translated the same way. Japan Shinto has a lot of beliefs about gods, oni, and stuff that gets frequently translated as "demons" even if they're just monsters or underworld creatures or evil spirits. It's just the most familiar english word to use, as opposed to using the japanese phrase and expecting the english audience to understand. Plus, NA is really shy around the idea of an "evil god" so that's very unpopular.

Japan also enjoys their gratuitous english, and so will slap the english phrase "King" onto something that means the highest position - even beyond when a phrase gets translated that way. So you'll have characters named Oni King, or Highest Evil God, or the Lord of Dark Magic, and see them all frequently get translated as "Demon King". And since it becomes a popular phrase in translated/localized anime, it's pretty common to see other similar titles get labeled as "Demon King" since they're comparable, even if a bit different.

I'm not really familiar with why the other names (and Clayman) are so popular, since those are specific names and a different category than why "Demon King" shows up so frequently. I do know that Japan really loves Alice in Wonderland, for whatever reason, so you'll find a lot of characters in anime named Alice along with a frequent Alice in Wonderland motif, for that reason.

Huh? I don't recall it ever being used outside of YuGiOh! Symbolism I guess, and it being a foreign name, may be the reason for this one. IRL Laplace was a famous scientist, STEM remembers him because of the Laplace transform while humanities (epistemologists particularly) remembers him because of his determinist allegory (the Demon of Laplace, a being that could know and predict the whole past and future because of having complete knowledge of the state of matters in the present), so maybe is some sort of symbol of the Absolute Master or how knowledge is power (and Francis or Bacon would be kind of silly for a villain) or whatever
